Seattle Times: Mariners aren't hiring Bobby Valentine
Per Larry Stone of the Seattle Times:
"Those close to Valentine say that he was very interested in managing the Mariners, despite their 101-loss season in 2010. But in a phone call this morning from Jack Zduriencik, Valentine was told they were going in a different direction."

List of possible reasons:
1)Asking too much money
2)Asking for a longer contract
3)Asking for control over roster decisions
4)Strong personality clashing with the GM
5)Disastrous interview
6)He stated that he likes BrokeNCYDE
6 might be inappropriate, but the rest are valid. They chose Wedge over him. Amazing how guys get 2nd chances.
Two down...What other teams are looking for managers?
The Brewers, the Cubs…

Blue Jays, too.
I don’t think they’ve announced Gaston’s successor. Aren’t the Marlins still looking, too?

They are, but sources have said that Valentine isn't interested in a job with the Marlins.
So, we can cross the Mariners and the Marlins off of the possible Bobby V landing places, that’s what I mean. And, the Cubs, apparently. Who’d they hire?

Nobody, yet.
Unless ESPN is unaware of the hiring, the job is still open. Apparently, they wanted Wedge.

Brian just said they hired a new manager.
I guess not.

I guess I jumped the gun
Early in the week, there were reports that Mike Quade was gonna be named manager with Sandberg as bench coach. Apparently, the rumor was false.
Didn't he say somewhere that he was looking for just the right situation
Doesn’t that almost always mean a team that’s got a good shot to make a run at a title? That isn’t happening anytime soon for the Mariners.
He's not such a hot commodity that it makes sense he'd turn down anyone
not named the Pirates or the Royals.
Eh, he's still got a good gig at ESPN
I think he can afford to be picky.

Steve Phillips needs to use some of his hidden influence at ESPN to knock Valentine off of that little perch, then
so he falls into our laps.

I meant as a managerial hot commodity,
in that top teams aren’t exactly scrambling to bid for him.
