Mets Handled Logan White With Class
Dodgers assistant GM Logan White, who interviewed for the Mets GM vacancy last Friday, had this to say, via text message, regarding his candidacy:
"I've negotiated too long with players and agents to get anxious or worked up."
And this:
"I don't know what [the Mets] have planned. I just know they handled me with great class."
In terms of Media Mentions Above Replacement, White certainly ranks behind Sandy Alderson and possibly below White Sox assistant GM Rick Hahn on the depth chart. White has mainly been responsible for the Dodgers' drafting and international scouting efforts in his four years as the assistant GM.

This is great, because for too long, this team has led the league in xPRB
which of course is Expected Public Relations Blunders. They’ve average 5.24 xPRB per season since 2007 and that is just way too high. How has this team not released LHPR Jay Horwitz by now?

Therefore, possibly the next whoever was the Sandy Koufax of public relations.

He'll make a great Asst. GM of Scouting Ops
under Alderson. I read a rumor that he wants out of the Dodgers, because the climate is not a pleasant work environment now.
Sandy Alderson for Mets GM
R.A. Dickey for Governor!
hope you're right.
I thought he had just extended his deal with LAD however and I don’t know if his out is only for a GM job or not… or how that works.

it wouldn't be the first, it'd be the second time in a row
White could be a genius, or he could be another guy who’s talent as misused in a gm role.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon (and Billy King-Paul G B)
so the mets AREN'T like school in summer time?
HELLO HELLO MR WILPON... BUY THAT MANSION. WE DONT NEED A CONDO.
Are we SURE he's talking about the Mets front office??
Son, when you participate in sporting events, it's not whether you win or lose : it's how drunk you get.
I hope the Mets hire him as a scouting director

White
signed a new contract with LAD, but still interviewed for the Mets GM spot. I don;t think he will leave LA for a lateral move.

Agreed
White did just get a shiny new contract, and just because a team is willing to allow a guy to interview for the GM job doesn’t mean they’ll extend the same courtesy for an assistant GM position.

With all the turmoil in the Dodgers' front office right now,
he might be looking for a way out.

He signed it
Literally on October 12. It’s not like things got so much worse over the past eight days.
Ordinarily
but if Alderson is the choice, we’ll also be hiring an heir apparent, for what that’s worth.
Well, it's good we did something right for a change.

Have no clue
why Hahn considered better candidate than White. What does Hahn actually have on his resume other than assisting Kenny Williams? I mean, most of the praise for Hahn is just projectioning since he evidently hasn’t led a dept… most of the positive talk is just the word of mouth stuff…
by ThnkGoodnessforHowieRose on Oct 20, 2010 9:12 AM EDT reply actions
because Hahn has had a job with a broader scope
and White has had a very “specialized job” and the difference in necessary skills between being a top scout and a gm is massive and part of the reason Omar failed so miserably.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon (and Billy King-Paul G B)
it would be totally inappropriate to project Omar's failure
onto White simply because each came from a scouting background. You wouldn’t know how each one would approach the job and their ideas and philosophy until you sat each down and interviewed them.
Just b/c White may not have had the exposure to negotiating contracts or other business affairs doesn’t mean he wouldn’t succeed as GM, as every GM has a staff to lean on to assist with the administrative functions.
by ThnkGoodnessforHowieRose on Oct 20, 2010 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions
You asked a question I answered
whether you think it makes sense to project Omar’s failing is irrelevant. That’s why Hahn is seen as a superior candidate, because the job of scouting entails controlling much future details and aspects of an organization than assistant gm.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon (and Billy King-Paul G B)
merely being an asst GM doesn't automatically make one
a good GM candidate. We have our own asst GM that nobody would want to see as GM, no? I wasn’t disputing the MMAR quotient… but talking about it the abstract.

hire someone better than them?
