The Mets & Red Sox are both coming off disappointing seasons and both teams have high priced players on their rosters that they would like to move. Would they make good trading partners? Bay for Lackey matches up salary wise. Bay was well liked by the Sox fan base in his brief time there (the "anybody in left field but Manny" sentiment probably helped). Lackey might fare better in a more spacious stadium. From what I've read on various sites, the Red Sox would like to move Dice-K, Ellsbury, Paplebon, and Beckett to varying degrees. Amazin' Avenue readers know the Mets list: Castillo, Perez, Beltran, and K-Rod. The difference between the players listed here is that the Red Sox players have underperformed but not as disastrously so as the Mets players have. Boston has more salary than performance issues with many of their players while the Mets have the worst of both worlds: underperforming AND overpaid. Unfortunately the Mets would probably have to come up with more money & prospects in any deal.
Anyone see any potential deals between the old '86 rivals?
