even though it was in the older post, i still liked this quote
Just because there’s less gold, doesn’t make it less valuable
and then he was all: “like, check out a supply and demand graph for once why don’t you!” and chortled while pushing the bridge off his glasses further up his nose with his index finger.
HELLO HELLO MR WILPON... BUY THAT MANSION. WE DONT NEED A CONDO.
Burkhardt
is a tool. He is the John Giannone of the mets
Sandy is so awesome...
He makes Burkhardt tolerable.
One minute in:.
“You’d like to see a franchise like the Mets in the playoffs every year,… (pause for humility) or close to every year.”
Sounds like not much at all is going to be added for 2011 unless through trades.
“Some quality signings at the international level and things can turn around in a hurry.” Wheee!
He always makes an interesting analogy to bonds, where you want players on a variety of contracts so that (I assume) if you run into trouble a variety of fixes are possible.
Alderson Avenue!
I think the confidence ratings are going to skyrocket from the minimum 10 last month.
When I watch this, I think "our GM is better than yours"
Much better.

Actually, I was looking through some of the clips from the press conference yesterday...you must've missed this part:

Not at all
I like how he said that getting from middle of the pack to the top does not have to be a “long process”. I really like how Alderson expresses himself and his tact. I only see good things with him at the helm.
He really does have a hard on for hitting
Its going to be weird to see the change in the organizational mind set of pitching and fielding. Its important to note that Omar did a shitty job of assembling a solid pitching staff, save for this year. Its going to be fun to see what Alderson can cook up.
I wonder if Alderson is going to go over slot. I think that is one of the major reasons why Omar’s drafts were so “middle of the pack”. I also think that the good drafting teams do this. Alderson comes from the commish’s office, so I am not sure he is going to go over slot.
meh the dodgers stay within slot for the most part
and they’re one of the better drafting teams. Our problem hasn’t been slot as much as targeting the wrong players and not developing the picks we get right. Plus they can spend in IFA freely and rebuild the system.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon (and Billy King-Paul G B)
I think they commish's office has dual concerns here...
One of which is the slot recommendations, which have no real force but are meant as a means of controlling costs and rely on mutual assent to be effective. The other is having a second premiere franchise in NY, and to erase part of the past frustrations. I would not be surprised if Alderson could speak frankly with the league front office and could get some latitude in this regard. Slot limits are intended to prevent abuse: all one needs to violate them without backlash is to show how the proposal is not abusive.

I don't think any teams have ever gotten any backlash
from violating slot.

Pretty much...
That’s why they are recommendations, not rules. Recommendations can be overruled for good reason. Rules generally cannot. So I think Sandy might be able to wiggle here, whereas someone like Omar (who clearly doesn’t have the name Alderson does), might have to stick closer to be accepted.

There's no punishment for going over slot.
You don’t have to ask to do it or justify yourself to the Commissioner; you just do it (with the knowledge you may be contributing to higher contract demands from draftees in the future).
Save Jenrry Mejia!
In lobby for Chip Hale as Mets 2011 Manager.
I'm not sure it's so simple...
Even when there is no recourse for violation of goals, particularly those goals that can make you and your peers poorer over time, it doesn’t mean that they have no force.
