According to multiple sources, one of which is Andy McCullough of the Star Ledger, Sandy Alderson will be in New York next week to interview for the Mets GM vacancy. Alderson, who preceded Billy Beane as General Manager of the A's and was CEO of the Padres from 2005-2009, is currently working for Major League Baseball, investigating corruption-related issues in the Dominican Republic.
Alderson, whose given name that I'm guessing nobody uses anymore is Richard Lynn, was GM of the A's from 1983 through 1997, during which his teams went 1200-1164 and appeared in four league championship series and three World Series, winning it all in 1989. The 1988-1990 teams all went to the World Series and had an aggregate regular season record of 306-180. They also had Rickey Henderson, Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco, Dennis Eckersley, Dave Stewart, Bob Welch, Mike Moore, and so on.
