Its really been overdone

It made sense for the 2001 season after 9/11. Once 2002 started, they should have canned it.

lol this

lincecum is already expensive and only in year 1 of arbitration and there’s a really good chance with his mechanics and the innings he’s logged and his small frame he’s going to breakdown fast. Sanchez is largely overrated, Bumgarner is decent but his low k rate is a major concern and Cain looks too much like Bobby Hill to be taken seriously.

Baseball really is a lot better if you have a rooting interest

I find sports like basketball and football better for casual viewing, b/c the chances of their being an “oh my god” type of play are much higher than baseball, and the action moves faster and all that.

That said, when you’ve got a rooting interest (which we all did in the NLCS and ALCS this year), there’s nothing like baseball.

did you see that 29 yard run for a touchdown yesterday

he ran practically 75 yards on that play. first to the right then he cut back to the left.

that is pure finesse.

AP on the other hand will pound pound pound 2 yards 2 yards over and over again. until the defense finally tires down and then the 60 yard run finally comes and boom you are down for the count. that is the defintion of the power back

yea, but even before that

Toy Story is still just a really funny movie, and Toy Story 2 is a sequel that doesn’t suck. Monsters Inc was really good, and Finding Nemo was excellent.

I’ve never seen Cars or A Bugs Life, so I can’t comment on those, and I thought Ratatouille was ok but not great, but then Wall-E and Up were both Oscar-nom worthy IMO

Me too

He said it won’t be the Riddler and I think he already said it wouldn’t be penguin, so that kind of takes away the obvious suspects. Lets go Calendar Man!

Not that I’ve read any of the newer comics, but I’m curious about newer villains like Hush.

by Evan_S on Nov 1, 2010 9:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope he goes back on that Penguin thing

I don’t want him to be a main villain, but I would love to see a fairly “normal” (i.e. not Danny DeVito with flippers) gangster type guy who is called “The Penguin” and who replaces the mob boss from the last movie. He can be a fairly minor character, like Eric Roberts was in the Dark Knight, but I think it would be a cool shout out to have him in there.

Also, I really think we’re getting Catwoman.

yea this

I think she’ll be an anti-hero who will a) replace Rachel Dawes as Batmans love interest and b) mirror Batman who is now thought to be a criminal by the outside world.

She won’t be “THE VILLAIN” but she’ll be someone who makes Bruce’s life tougher even while he’s falling for her, all while trying to fight whoever the real villain is and trying to clear his name.

well that's because all the other ones

have devolved into pandering to popular culture which is full of morons. Where as the oscars have gone the other way and turned into uppity/elitist, which is why the Dark Knight had no chance they’d never nominate something sourced from a comic book.

well obviously sourced

mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon (and Billy King-Paul G B)

by Gina on Nov 1, 2010 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions

which is part of why 2008 was so bad

reasonably people can differ (and I know a lot of people who didn’t love the Dark Knight), but those were definitely 3 of the top 5 movies of the year and the fact that none of them were even nominated was absurd, meanwhile Oscar bait like Benjamin Button and The Reader were.

Frost/Nixon was excellent as well, glad that at least got a nomination.

Its too bad Langella

was going up against Heath Ledger for the Supporting Actor category, because he could have won that in any other year.

by aparkermarshall on Nov 1, 2010 9:50 PM EDT up reply actions

yea

also, how did Mickey Rourke not win best actor?

Ugh – I normally don’t really get upset at all about the Academy Awards – I honestly don’t even remember what won last year, but 2008 just really, really annoyed me. I felt like they got almost everything wrong. Bah.

At least they didn’t give the best supporting one to like Philip Seymour Hoffman from Doubt (yes I did just look that up).

But this Giants team reminds me of the 1988 Dodgers. Unbelievable pitching, and total scrub hitters coming up huge in the clutch.

once again I bring up 2006

its not that hard to believe. their can’t be innovation behind Sabean because there’s process. Even Giants fans the moves come from no where, there’s no discernable direction or plan, and more often than not they wake up frightened to read Giants news. They’re loaded down with awful contracts, got lucky on a few high draft picks, as a result of being awful, but mostly have a non existent farm system, and generally have a team consisting of scrap heap teams every year.

Also I’m pretty positive if you asked Sabean he would be offended that you think there might be innovation behind his team.

But maybe somewhere, outside of the standard knowledge of both the eyes guys and those more stat-obsessed, there is something that works. Maybe Sabean is really a genius and knows something, or employs someone who knows something, that you and I have never even considered. I don’t know how I feel, but I do know that when people are too sure that a result is clearly bizarre, usually they are missing something (and by that I mean me as well as anyone else).

at the same time though, Ross got hot for the postseason

but do you expect him to in general be a good pickup, or did he just go on a tear at the right time. My guess is he turns back into a pumpkin next year. Sure he made a decision that made him look good, but that doesn’t mean it was based on sound judgment just that it worked out well. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, and I think at least with the Cody ross deal thats what happened. That crowd in San Francisco is pretty subdued considering it’s been since 1958 that they’ve been there without a title.

Also, the on-field celebration could have been better. If the pile doesn’t topple over, 1986-Mets style, it’s not a good celebration.

the Brewers/Arizona are largely about finding underrated offensive players (hence all their players k 400 times a year). The rockies are all about finding underrated, family loving, God fearin christian players, okay that’s a joke but there’s large truth to it, Oakland and Seattle are obviously focusing heavily on defense now and Cleveland can never seem to figure out what they’re doing. agreed

two years ago I turned the TV off the second the celebration started.

Last year I was kinda rooting for the Yankees, and watched the celebration. As soon as they showed Jeter with his arms up running towards the mound I wanted to kick my tv screen – I had completely forgotten how much I hated that image.

It was like getting over your ex-girlfriend, then going to a bar one night, seeing that she’s still really hot, and then seeing her make out with some random dude.

Grossman fumbled on the first play he was in, & the Lions scored on the fumble to put the game out of reach.

Schaub puts up great stats, but he’s really a terrible QB in late, “clutch” situations. I know you’ve gotta take what the defense is giving you, but 5 straight dumpoffs to the running back in the middle of the field, taking the clock down to the 2-minute warning when you’re down by 2 scores isn’t gonna get it done.
