Its really been overdone
It made sense for the 2001 season after 9/11. Once 2002 started, they should have canned it.

thank you for stating that
every time they show it on tv I just switch channels…I hate involving politics with baseball.

lol this
lincecum is already expensive and only in year 1 of arbitration and there’s a really good chance with his mechanics and the innings he’s logged and his small frame he’s going to breakdown fast. Sanchez is largely overrated, Bumgarner is decent but his low k rate is a major concern and Cain looks too much like Bobby Hill to be taken seriously.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon (and Billy King-Paul G B)
Cain is a very good pitcher
He’s just never had much run support. Who knows what will happen with Lincecum, maybe he will adjust, adapt, etc?
Cliff Lee is my boy
But Buster Posey is more of my boy. I’m torn…

speaking of pitchers and catchers.
it’s sad how excited I am for the off-season to really begin. not because i expect big brilliant moves, but because I’m downright tickled by the idea of coming home from class or waking up in the morning and not having to check ESPN or yahoo sports (or my fb wall fucking braves/phillies/yankees fans) with my eyes covered just in case the mets made some dreadful move.

Baseball really is a lot better if you have a rooting interest
I find sports like basketball and football better for casual viewing, b/c the chances of their being an “oh my god” type of play are much higher than baseball, and the action moves faster and all that.
That said, when you’ve got a rooting interest (which we all did in the NLCS and ALCS this year), there’s nothing like baseball.

yeah
but thats literally almost entirely because of his first game against indy. 231 yards in one game can really skew your numbers when you’ve only played 6 games.

since then he's been completely boom or bust

Coleman later invented a new low rating for the site entitled “Fuck You” just to specifically rate Disaster Movie, though it has been used by the other critics on the site for other films. In his review, he claimed, (most likely just for comedic effect), "I drank, I beat myself silly, I touched substances that I would never imagine doing before or ever again just to prepare for this movie, and it didn’t help at all.

I was on vacation with my parents when it came out, and despite promising me they’d wait for me to get back, all my friends went to see it opening night (assholes). did you see that 29 yard run for a touchdown yesterday
he ran practically 75 yards on that play. first to the right then he cut back to the left.
that is pure finesse.
AP on the other hand will pound pound pound 2 yards 2 yards over and over again. until the defense finally tires down and then the 60 yard run finally comes and boom you are down for the count. that is the defintion of the power back

2009 Did Not Happen
yea, but even before that
Toy Story is still just a really funny movie, and Toy Story 2 is a sequel that doesn’t suck. Monsters Inc was really good, and Finding Nemo was excellent.
I’ve never seen Cars or A Bugs Life, so I can’t comment on those, and I thought Ratatouille was ok but not great, but then Wall-E and Up were both Oscar-nom worthy IMO

Me too
He said it won’t be the Riddler and I think he already said it wouldn’t be penguin, so that kind of takes away the obvious suspects. Lets go Calendar Man!
Not that I’ve read any of the newer comics, but I’m curious about newer villains like Hush.
I hope he goes back on that Penguin thing
I don’t want him to be a main villain, but I would love to see a fairly “normal” (i.e. not Danny DeVito with flippers) gangster type guy who is called “The Penguin” and who replaces the mob boss from the last movie. He can be a fairly minor character, like Eric Roberts was in the Dark Knight, but I think it would be a cool shout out to have him in there.
Also, I really think we’re getting Catwoman.

She won’t be “THE VILLAIN” but she’ll be someone who makes Bruce’s life tougher even while he’s falling for her, all while trying to fight whoever the real villain is and trying to clear his name.
2009 Did Not Happen
basically
a LOT going on in the next one (if I’m right). I have faith in Nolan, hopefully he can buck the trend of the 3rd movie in a trilogy sucking
(though, in the interest of full disclosure, Return of the Jedi is my favorite Star Wars movie, and even the most ardent prequel haters have to admit that Revenge of the Sith was by far the best prequel)
2009 Did Not Happen
revenge of the shit was probably the best of the new 3
for what thats worth.

Revenge of the Sith was really good I thought
But don’t make me go all Randal Graves on you why Empire was better than Return of the Jedi.
And I hope they don’t over do it with villains like they did in the terrible Spiderman 3.
all the spidermans were varying levels of awful
3 had the best fight scene though, Peter Parker vs. MJ. Most believable combat in any of the films.

by Thomas Wachtel on Nov 1, 2010 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions
well that's because all the other ones
have devolved into pandering to popular culture which is full of morons. Where as the oscars have gone the other way and turned into uppity/elitist, which is why the Dark Knight had no chance they’d never nominate something sourced from a comic book.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon (and Billy King-Paul G B)
which is part of why 2008 was so bad
reasonably people can differ (and I know a lot of people who didn’t love the Dark Knight), but those were definitely 3 of the top 5 movies of the year and the fact that none of them were even nominated was absurd, meanwhile Oscar bait like Benjamin Button and The Reader were.
Frost/Nixon was excellent as well, glad that at least got a nomination.

The ending of our season in '88
was truly the most deflating for me. More than the loss in ’73, more than losing to the Yankees in 2000.

I mean an OT series winning goal is the greatest thing in sports, without a doubt.
I still say that nothing where a clock is counting down to the final second can be as good for the pure joy of victory as getting that final out, b/c we all know that anything can happen before that out is recorded.

Yes...
That cost $180 million to build, with all sorts of mechanical and engineering issues. For example, the escalators took 4 years to work, and the swimming pool, which was intended to be the competition pool for a number of high schools, had to be drained when settling of the foundation caused the pool’s concrete to crack.

once again I bring up 2006
its not that hard to believe. their can’t be innovation behind Sabean because there’s process. Even Giants fans the moves come from no where, there’s no discernable direction or plan, and more often than not they wake up frightened to read Giants news. They’re loaded down with awful contracts, got lucky on a few high draft picks, as a result of being awful, but mostly have a non existent farm system, and generally have a team consisting of scrap heap teams every year.
Also I’m pretty positive if you asked Sabean he would be offended that you think there might be innovation behind his team.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon (and Billy King-Paul G B)
I heard the Torture thing....
But maybe somewhere, outside of the standard knowledge of both the eyes guys and those more stat-obsessed, there is something that works. Maybe Sabean is really a genius and knows something, or employs someone who knows something, that you and I have never even considered. I don’t know how I feel, but I do know that when people are too sure that a result is clearly bizarre, usually they are missing something (and by that I mean me as well as anyone else).

ok, but he's still right that Ross turned out to be a good pickup
the kind of pickup he was is nitpicking
at the same time though, Ross got hot for the postseason
but do you expect him to in general be a good pickup, or did he just go on a tear at the right time. My guess is he turns back into a pumpkin next year. Sure he made a decision that made him look good, but that doesn’t mean it was based on sound judgment just that it worked out well. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, and I think at least with the Cody ross deal thats what happened. Not to detract from the disgusting rotation and bullpen that team has, which is really what got them there.

the Brewers/Arizona are largely about finding underrated offensive players (hence all their players k 400 times a year). The rockies are all about finding underrated, family loving, God fearin christian players, okay that’s a joke but there’s large truth to it, Oakland and Seattle are obviously focusing heavily on defense now and Cleveland can never seem to figure out what they’re doing. who was that?
Hey, wait! I'm having one of those things. You know? A headache with pictures?

I don't know....
I turned on MNF to watch the end of the game and I heard a snippet that suggested that. I’m curious as hell as to what they were talking about

It was last week.
The punter swam in the canal in Broad Ripple (the bars/culture district in Indianapolis) during the bye week. When police questioned him, he said he was wet because it was raining (it’s rained twice in Indy since August).

He was shit-faced, needless to say.
To his credit, he was looking for a friend to drive him home or a cab, he wasn’t planning on driving.
Let's never bunt again.

His BA was .015.....
I guarantee you that mine right now is higher than that. That’s not really that bad. Swimming in a canal, however, and being so obviously drunk that the police stop you….Damn.

Really?
He sounded way drunker than that. What a light-weight.

Sorry...Point is.
That there’s nothing illegal about having that BA, unless you drive or do something else as stupid or more.

Is anyone watching this game?
Schaub puts up great stats, but he’s really a terrible QB in late, “clutch” situations. I know you’ve gotta take what the defense is giving you, but 5 straight dumpoffs to the running back in the middle of the field, taking the clock down to the 2-minute warning when you’re down by 2 scores isn’t gonna get it done.
2009 Did Not Happen
To be fair, his O line sucks, and he's up against Freeney/Mathis

The 2011 Mets- Rock bottom: We haven't reached it yet
From Adam Rubin, or any roster
Mets officially now free agents: Henry Blanco, Elmer Dessens, Kelvim Escobar, Pedro Feliciano and Fernando Tatis.
I say keep Feliciano, the rest I’m ambivalent about. Thoughts?
Let's never bunt again.
Keep Tatis...

yeah, Tatis once hit two grandslams in an inning
so he should forever pinch-hit and occasionally bat cleanup

I wonder how much Feliciano would get if we offer him arb
maybe we can get a 2nd round pick for him.

it's amazing how unlucky the state of Texas has been in baseball
Two teams since 1972 and no world championships and only 2 appearances. Hell, Florida didn’t even have baseball until 1993 and it has 2 titles and 3 appearances.

I just had a brief exchange with him over Twitter
He could be a lot worse…but he ended by saying that “stats don’t explain Edgar Renteria.” Ugh. I like that he responds to stuff, but some of the things that he says are not exactly progressive.
Let's never bunt again.
