no.

I could get behind it.
Pedro has lost his heat, but he can still outwit. And he always brings the entertainment.
Did I fall asleep and wake up in 1999?
If so, I am going to get so laid my senior year of college. Oh wait, damn.

He'd be a better swingman option
than anyone in house since Taki left. Pedro’s a guy I’d pony up the bucks to actually go see too.

hey, on a cheap one year deal,
for what will probably be a lost season, absolutely. i love pedro. the “bridge year” thing has to have its upside too — namely, the ability to throw pedro out there. Pedro Martinez!
How bout no.
Omar would say yes, tho.
Ted Berg: sign Pedro
Omar: Did he play for the expos.
Ted Berg: yes…
Omar: we’ll sign him!
This seems to be a corollary of fucking logic!

I like the idea
outside of 2008, Pedro’s always been a very good pitcher, even with the Mets. Worth a try on a 1 year, $4 million deal
maybe less
but a 1 year deal is something the Mets should offer.

how about a 1 year deal where Pedro pays US
1 meeeeellion dollars to make up for Omar overpaying for him.

As far as overpays go
Pedro’s really wasn’t too bad.
In general I think Omar doesn’t get enough credit. He put our farm system in a BETTER position by getting us really really competitive in the Latin market. He put together some key pieces that improved the Mets drastically, and I think the Beltran contract was a success, the Wagner one was solid and the Pedro one was not good but not crippling. He had strengths in Major League scouting. Clearly, running a team as a whole wasnt his thing, but he did a hell of a better job than a lot of his predecessors (Jim Duquette shudders)

Not this shit again. Omar was a bottom 5 GM. He ran the Mets into the ground.
The team is a laughingstock.
I'm going to sort of agree with both of you here.
He definitely ran the team into the ground towards the end with his overpays and with the avoidance of overslotting but at the same time, look at the team and the system in 2004 when Jim Duquette was demoted. Aside from Reyes and Wright, that was a very bare minor league system and the big league team was relying on an injury plagued Piazza/Floyd combo in the lineup and a washed up Al Leiter/Tom Glavine combo leading the rotation. We may have some poor monetary commitments in LOLlie and Castillo among others, but at least we have some star players and a farm system that isn’t totally barren (when Ty Wigginton is your 3rd best offensive player and best minor league callup…come on).

Same as for agreement, but I don't buy that Omar did much at all positive.
But a few points about Omar. First, “if better than Duquette” is the best you can say for someone, that’s pretty bad. Second, while Omar did have a few successes, I fail to see how a few points made can be substantiated. Omar had little more success with Latin America than a number of teams, and the minors show it. There are a few decent prospects, but very few showstoppers and very little intrinsic depth (good minor league FA signings to provide a backstop against injury). He loaded the team and system with C-List fringe players who on other teams would be in AAA (or lower), or maybe a last-on-the-depth chart defensive replacement. We all know that a number of his big FA signings were terrible, and even if you can point to Beltran as a good signing, so what? Good signings over 5 years that can be counted on your fingers is to me a residue of doing stuff, rather than doing good stuff. Accordingly, some of the decent prospects that did come through the system had to be misused to plug holes, slowing or halting their development. There was no organizational plan for advancement, scouting, and signing.
I guess I just don’t buy the “air of legitimacy” argument. You know how you become legit? Win the division a couple of years in a row. You know how you lose that legitimacy quickly, no matter what names are on your roster? Win 70.

I hate stunt signings by teams that are refusing to get into contention.
Screw this and the frayed labrum it rode in on.
I'm all for hiring Pedro Martinez as a pitching instructor.

Or at least as a ST instructor.
Like what they did with Ricky Henderson a few years back.
Save Jenrry Mejia!
Or give him twenty bucks
to call up Razor Shines and remind him that he’s still fired.

He'd send him straight into traffic.
“Nah Omar, you can beat that SUV. He’s at least 6 blocks away.”
“He’s right at the corner.”

we might as well sign Jamie Moyer too
The P-Man is ancient and well past his usefulness, I will always respect the borderline HOFER, but let’s move on to the New Era already.

I'm all for signing Jamie Moyer next season, when he's back from TJ
