The Jack Morris Awards | Viva El Birdos
Dan Moore AKA DanUpBaby with some sharp commentary on the nonsense being spewed by intellectually dishonest Hall of Fame voters. A snippet:
I'm reluctant to give [Lou] Brock this Jack Morris Award until the cloud surrounding his era begins to lift. Brock played at the height of the AstroTurf era, a shameful time in our national pastime's history where the game was artificially sped up and made bouncier to appeal to its fans' lowest common denominator.

Razor sharp post from VEB
I don’t get why Jack Morris has such a strong contingent in his HOF camp. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t there, but what was so special about him(10 inning game excluded)?
And Jon Heyman is being himself.
What's that about?
As I posted on Twitter last week
the “Morris for HOF” camp leads me to believe that several million people were in the stands for Game 7 of the 1991 World Series

well done, VEB
The Morris-for-the-hall argument just baffles me. The guy wasn’t even close to being good enough for the Hall. Let him in, and it’s time to start the retroactive consideration of lots of guys who were far better (like Jerry Koosman).
I think the best short argument one could make against Morris is this: according to BR, Jack Morris has fewer 5+ WAR seasons (one) than Ubaldo Jimemez (two), and U-Ball has all of three full seasons under his belt. Unless Jon Heyman and company want to start polishing the plaque of the first Rockie to go into the Hall, it’s time for this idiotic Morris argument to die.

If Morris gets in, then Koosman should get in
Ya know, if Morris gets in, why not let Morgana in?

I want to end humanity when I see people argue for Jack Morris over Bert Blyleven.
Jack Morris: 257-186, 3.90 ERA (0 seasons under 3), 105 ERA+, 1.296 WHIP, 1.78 K/BB
Bert Blyleven: 287-250, 3.31 ERA (9 seasons under 3), 118 ERA+, 1.198 WHIP, 2.80 K/BB
But what about teh playoffs!
Morris: 7-4, 3.80 ERA in 90 innings (so awesome the Blue Jays wouldn’t even let him near a mound in ’93)
Blyleven: 5-1, 2.47 ERA in 47 innings
He had the third best ERA+ for a starting pitcher on each of the three World Series teams (excluding 1993), so basically he was an above average pitcher fortunate to be on a ton of really good teams and he pitched one jewel of a playoff game 19 years ago.
Also, the “Most wins in the 80s” is the most useless piece of trivia ever trotted out to justify one’s HoF candidacy. Ever.
