yeah, doesn't make much sense
The Reds are loaded with young pitching (seriously, where are they going to find room in rotation for Cueto, Volquez, Wood, Leake, and Chapman next year?) and they had an option for 2011 for Arroyo. Brandon (sic) is a good pitcher, but do they really need him for 3 more years? I hope this money doesn’t prevent them from locking up Votto and Bruce.

I hope it forces them to trade one of them to us
and one of those pitchers

Dusty Baker is a near certainty to kill at least one (likely all) of the young arms you named
Theres no such thing as too many pitchers on a Dusty Baker team.

Weird
Arroyo looks like one of those guys who can outperform DIPS (Cain, Santana, etc.) but this is a head scratcher.

The big head scratcher is why they didn't just wait another year and see where they are
on pitching. If Arroyo stinks, let him go. If he’s still league average, they could’ve signed him for 10M a year easy.
dumb. maybe they're making Chapman into a full time closer within the year?
