Rubin: Four Mets Out Of Minor-League Options
The Mets on the 40-man roster out of minor-league options are:
Fernando Nieve
Nelson Figueroa
Pat Misch
Anderson Hernandez
They can't be sent to the minors without first clearing waivers. Misch and Hernandez have almost no shot of making the Opening Day roster so the possibility of losing them to a waiver claim isn't the least bit frightening.
This is good news for Nieve and Figgy, two useful pitchers who might have an early leg up on Jon Niese in the fifth starter race.

Wouldn't like to lose Figgy or Nieve
I am not sure what to expect out of either of them but both showed some signs of being back of the rotation pitchers. Nieve had that incredible run with us when we got him. Figgy had a couple of really bad outings and some really good outings.
Be good to see them both in the starting line up with the Figmeister in the pen.

Figgy
Other than being shelled in 1.2 innings by Arizona (6 runs), what other “really bad outings” did Figgy have in 2009? You realize he pitched more innings in a Mets uniform in 2009 than Nieve and Niese combined. I’m sure you remember that 2 days after his shelling, Figgy was brought back in exactly the same situation he was taken out of, when Niese got hurt: 2nd inning, two out, 2 on. He got out of the the jam with no runs scoring, and pitched the next four complete innings (3rd 4th 5th 6th) shutting out the eventual Central Division champion St. Louis Cardinals (yes, Pujols was in the line-up), hit a 2-run triple, and won the game. He had one bad outing against Arizona. As a starter, he pitched the Mets into the 7th inning in most of them. The majority were very good. In his 8 starts as part of the rotation after Santana left in mid-August, Figgy pitched 50.1 innings (3.38 ERA), that’s better than 6 innings per game, led the pitching staff in September strikeouts. His record over those 50.1 innings was 2-6 because the Mets scored a total of 8 runs in his 6 losses.
agree
I think Hernandez wouldnt get picked up anyway..Micsh might get signed because he had a few good innings for us and someone might take a stab at him

I kind of liked Pat Misch
I know he doesn’t have great stuff, but he put together a few nice starts and should a little presence on the mound. Plus, he’s a lefty.

Nieve and Figueroa will probably be on the opening day roster
Would anyone even claim Misch/Hernandez?

Well, we traded and traded for Hernandez, so...
But, truthfully, probably Misch.

I thought Misch almost has to make the team
since he’s the only lefty after Feliciano. Unless Niessen beats him out, which would be good. They can’t really go with only 1 lefty again, and pitch Pedro every day. Or is there another lefty I’m forgetting about?
I think I would rather go with one lefty
Than have Pat Misch take someone else’s more deserved spot on the 25-man.
