new to this but gotta start sometime, right?
I have never blogged before, and I'm not sure how long I will keep this up, but I have insights that I would like to share with other baseball fans.
I will warn you now that I am opinionated and may not have the numbers to back up my beliefs, but I will try to be as logical or at least explain as much as possible why I feel the way I do about the statements that I make.
Although I will be posting about several different teams, I am a New York Mets fan, first and foremost! I am a new Mets fan. I remember watching the Subway World Series, but I don't remember much between then and 2008. So I will consider myself a hardcore Mets fan as of 2008, which is a lot earlier than any of my other teams, but that will be addressed when I post about my other teams.
I live in Chattanooga, TN and every summer for the past 4 years or so (except for this summer, but I'll explain that) I have made it to Atlanta to see a Mets v Braves game. I have never been to a non-Met game, unless you count the 2 Buffalo Bisons games my sister and I went to last summer (but they're Mets-lite).
I love my Mets! I am a baseball fan because of David Wright. Well, I first noticed baseball when I heard about and saw Mike Piazza play. I was hooked. Mike Piazza disappeared (actually I think he left the Mets to go back to California... I looked it up and he went to the Padres) but then I saw David Wright and saw him play and I became a Mets fan. Then I was exposed to the other guys on the team: Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Ryan Church, Angel Pagan, Endy Chavez, Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde aka Oliver Perez, John Maine, Perpetual Pedro Feliciano, Fernando Tatis aka The Grand Slam Kid, Brian Stokes (who my sister calls the Vampire LeStat because when he first appeared he had facial hair reminiscent of the Vampire LeStat) and the others... One honorary mention is Aaron Michael Heilman. I like to call him by his full name because I did a lot of that during the 2008 season, like any mother who was scolding her child. Under normal circumstances, I just call him Aaron Michael.
That is what I remember about 2008. What do I remember about 2009? Well, I could go with "the dl was the place to be" or refer to it as the Forgotten Season, but I tend to have the glass-half-full approach (question is "what's in the glass?"). I remember winning a 1-0 game against Yovani Gallardo of the Milwaukee Brewers. I remember Fernando Tatis hitting a go-ahead grand slam against the Colorado Rockies (as much that had hurt me because I am a Rockies fan). I remember Omir Santos winning it for us in Boston against Papelbum (misspelling intended). I remember David's 2 2-run homerun night against the Phillies, and Carlos Beltran's 2-run homerun on that same night. And then there was MLB Network's NL 1st base play of the year featuring Daniel Murphy and Bobby Parnell.
There were positives from last season. I remember Pat Misch finally winning a game he started. Against the Marlins. We ended the season with a sweep of the Astros, featuring a complete game shutout by Nelson Figueroa aka Figgy. I remember watching Josh Thole live up to his hype and thinking he looks like a young Joe Mauer (yes, I am a Twins fan!), but I don't want to start with those comparisons this soon.
I am a Mets fan. And I will probably always be a Mets fan. I will be blogging about my Mets, but not exclusively. Take this journey with me as I talk baseball about my favorite teams. Starting with the New York Mets.
By the way, I've been to CitiField and I prefer it to Turner Field. I was going to post a picture I took at the game but I can't figure out how to. Any suggestions? Posting the facebook url for the picture didn't work but I'll do it anyway... hopefully, you'll be able to see it

n e body else remember the time mike piazza wasn’t gay?
I don't think...
… I’ve met a Met fan who’d never been to Shea before.
This is an eye opener. (And welcome Abordick.)

I never went to Shea
I’ve lived most of my life in the south and only go to NY for family visits. I imagine it will be a pretty long-time before I’d be able to go to Citi either.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'
it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
A shame.
I’ve watched basketball games in the Palestra… and a barn. I’ve been to a couple of SEC football games… and to a rockin’ Giants Stadium. I’ve been to a ridiculous amount of concerts in clubs, arenas and outdoor venues.
I’m pretty sure I’ve never feel any other physical edifice actually sway when people get all excited/jump-y like the upper deck did during key moments of 1999, 2000 and 2006. I don’t know that I will again.

Yeah I've been to a few braves games
my dads a braves fan and I’ve lived in Georgia since 2005, and I went to a Philly’s game once, but that’s the entirety of my professional sports adventures. I go to UNC so I’ve been to multiple college football games/basketball/baseball games but that’s about it as far as my live sports experiences.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'

I loved the upper deck for that reason
especially since I went to baseball games with a friend who was afraid of heights and he’d freak out when it started rocking like that.

That's what'd always happen to me.
I’d get horrible vertigo for the first inning or two.

I was at Shea for fireworks night when Big "not gay in any fashion" Piazza smacked the crap outa the ball
We were sitting in the front row of the upper deck directly behind 1b. The place was half empty by then but the fans that remained just rocked the place. One of the most amazing feelings.
Citi doesnt have that feel yet, i hope it comes eventually. Maybe if we put together a winning team the fans will return.

I was there too in almost the same spot...
But I was like, 5ish. But I actually remember that night, considering Piazza was my David at the time.

I never made it either
I planned on going in the summer of 08, but I didn’t end up going. :( I saw one game at the old Yankee Stadium. I’ve been to Comerica, Tropicana, and Coors, but I never made it to Shea. How sad.
ain't had enough...
This sentiment has already been expressed, but let me add to it:
somebody actually became a Mets fan in 2008!?!? You, sir, are a masochist.
Then again, who am I to talk – I became a fan in 1991.

1. i’m a girl.
2. i know i’m brave for declaring my love for the mets now, but that is another reason i follow multiple teams… some days last season all 5 of my teams won their games. some days i only had 1 win. i love this game of baseball. i may need to be committed if some good things don’t happen this season, but i love the mets. things are beginning to look up!
3. i follow the mets, rangers, rays, rockies, and twins. i’ll be posting about them, too.

you're lucky you've picked up multiple teams
most of us here are fans of the Mets only, it has made for some tough seasons. Quite the interesting array of teams to cheer for, should have some interesting seasons to watch between the lot of them.

I really do like the way they gather talent
They strike me as a Marlins-esque team that will rise from nowhere, take the league by storm, dismantle, then rebuild, except I think their FO can do so more consistently once they get the ball rolling. I give them 2-3 years and they’ll be a tough team.

Oh c'mon man
keep hope alive! we’re about to get a sexy billionaire russian owner instead of soul less Bruce Ratner, and possible news stadium in Brooklyn. I think there’s absolutely no chance of getting Lebron/Wade/Carmelo but if the knicks renounce David Lee’s rights, which they’ll have to do to take advantage of the cap room, we can get him to pair with Lopez and send Yi to the end of the bench, God willing, and if we really commit to being super bad we can get 2-3 more top 5 picks to pair with Lopez/Harris or if we manage to get the #1 pick this year we can trade Harris for some NBA quality pieces. The future is bright for the Nets! Just the 2012-2013 future.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'

about the pirates...
my sis and i have considered picking up the pirates… we see that if they can only get their $h!+ together they will cause trouble for EVERYONE in that division… i’ve seen Andrew McCutcheon and Lastings Milledge… Ryan Church is now with them. they have my former Ray Aki Iwamura. i liked Jack Wilson, the LaRoche bros, Doumit. i respect Maholm (that game against us that Maine started and he scored the only run of the game w a homerun, his first career). i do have an eye on the pirates but their history of losing seasons is working against them… but i am paying attention to them… pirates v phillies: go PIRATES!
besides, in nl central, i’m more leaning toward the bash bros of Braun and Fielder in Milwaukee, or the Reds whose home ballpark is just 5 hrs away from me. i’ve also considered the cardinals. i’m a rockies fan… Matt Holliday was safe! and really, who can’t respect what AhPu does? but i feel like they are the favorites in that division and i don’t like rooting for the favorites… i’m stubborn like that…

On Scrubs, the hot blonde played by Sarah Chalke was named Elliot, so...It happens.
She’s ten years older than me, but I don’t feel in any way odd saying, “Damn, she’s good looking.” Heh, looking at Wikipedia, apparently, she even has a kid.

agreed completely on the first point
the second point, i only sort of agree with. Scrubs was great until the rabies episode (if you watch you know which one I mean), at which point it began to rapidly decline in entertainment value as they tried to make it more “dramatic”. It is horrible now.
by KeithsMoustache on Feb 23, 2010 12:13 PM EST up reply actions
My Lunch?
That’s my favorite episode. Were you saying that was the last great episode or that was the beginning of the suckiness, I’m not sure.
After that it no question declined, but there were still plenty of funny moments and I never saw an episode that felt like a chore watching it. I’ve even enjoyed some episodes this season, although I hate that they didn’t change the name, because Scrubs ended last season with the second best finale I’ve seen for a sitcom.
Also
just looking at a list of episodes after My Lunch, season six and seven were both okay. There were some great episodes like My Musical, when he finds out Kim is still pregnant and a couple of others, but I thought the final season was great. My Last Words with Mayor Royce from The Wire wasn’t very funny, but better than almost any other drama on television, both episodes with the Janitor’s wedding were great and of course the Finale. All the other episodes were pretty good as well.
when it started trying to tackle life issues, i feel like they kind of lost the point. I understand it was a great episode from a character development perspective, but it seems like the show lost the feel it had prior to that episode. My musical was pretty good, and the Finale was good, but most of the episodes around them didn’t work for me, I really started losing any sympathy for or connection to the characters by season 6, and that spells the end as far as I’m concerned. Stealing the corpse of the show, attaching some strings, and then having a puppet show with the characters (AKA the new season of Scrubs) is terrible.
by KeithsMoustache on Feb 23, 2010 12:46 PM EST up reply actions
Scrubs used to be a lot better.
The seventh season, the last one on NBC, was alright, but towards the end, it was getting pretty bad. The ‘My Princess’ episode, which was supposed to be the series finale, was totally unacceptable. The eighth season, on NBC, was good, and the finale, that was a proper finale. They completely killed it when the renewed it for another season, though. I don’t consider that Scrubs.
