Rookie Jackson set to become Tigers' CF
Not Mets related news but I thought it was interesting, and a bit surprising considering he's coming off a somewhat disappointing AAA season.

weird goings-on in Detroit
Going from Granderson to Jackson is either going to make them look very smart or very stupid, and it’s going to be interesting to see which.
yeah same with the
jackson/scherzer switcheroo
On his property, Mr. Frazier has created a number of places to unwind — or as he said, "just chill."

That part of the deal may look bad, but Max Scherezer might make the deal look brilliant.
I’d take him over Edwin Jackson right now, and he’s gonna be paired with Porcello and Verlander for at least the next 5 seasons (unless they trade one of them). Jacob Turner may very well be up and in that rotation well before they lose any of those three as well. Detroit has an awful lot of young pitching talent now.

well unless they trade one
or unless Max Scherzers arm falls off/implodes/or is otherwise rendered useless.
Regardless it depends on whether you look at them or two separate deals or one. if it’s you look at it as one then I’m perplexed as to what Arizona saw in Ian Kennedy that made him so valuable they’d be willing to downgrade from scherzer to jackson. if it’s two, I’m still perplexed as to what Arizona was thinking unless they’re just 100% certain Scherzers arm is going to fall off.

this was my initial reaction too
But — unlike with Omar — I’m willing to entertain the possibility that the Tiger front office knows something I don’t about the upside of the players they’re taking a gamble on.
Eh they've made a lot of blunders themselves the last few years
I’m not sure their gm is that much better than Omar. His blunders just haven’t included embarrassing press conferences.

I'm going to call it a very smart move (as far as using him goes, not the trade itself).
Playing him in center everyday should help keep Ordonez’s playing time low enough that his ridiculous option doesn’t vest.

Oh I forgot Carlos Guillen existed
when I see Guillen I think Jose or Ozzie, and I occasionally get the Tigers and White Sox’s confused so I was trying to figure out if you actually meant Juan Pierre and had gotten him confused with Jose Guillen or you were expecting Ozzie to suit up.

Yeah, but that would make Maggs the primary DH.
Pushing Jackson out there as the everyday CF leaves 4 guys to fill 3 spots, and you’d have to think it would force Maggs to a part time DH role that could force him to come up short. That wouls save the tiger almost 16 million next year, and combined with Robertson, Bonderman, Damon, Inge, and Willis coming off the books would give them a shitload to spend.
