That's good.

See, $1.45 million dollars is reasonable for a guy like Pagan. That’s a smart , reasonable contract.

Tatis and Pagan

I'm surprised that Pagan asked for as little as he did.

He asked for $1.8 million. Given his accomplishments on the field this season and last, and having “seen” Omar give Cora a $2 million dollar contract, I’m surprised his people didn’t use that $2 million dollar Cora contract as a benchmark, because he’s worth a lot more than Cora no matter how you look at it.

Well he's arbitration eligble isn't he?

I’m not sure but I imagine he wouldn’t get much in the arbitration process.

Well, I mean, I don't think that he should/would of been asking for Jeff Francoeur's $5 million dollars,

but the $1.8 million that he was asking for seems like so small, as compared to what he probably could have asked for, and maybe gotten a reasonably close sum.

He's a second year arbitration player

who made 500K last year and only played 88 games. He was seriously pushing it with 1.8.

A second year arbitration player

who made 500K last year and only played 88 games, hitting .306, with a decent OBP, and good fielding across the board. Players with lesser skill sets have made/make more.

Yeah but the arbitration proccess as far as I know

doesn’t look at skills/fielding, it’s mostly based on outdated stats like games played, rbis, homers.

that's not how this works

if you went before an arbiter and requested at least a 400% raise for a player because he played half of a season and had “good fielding across the board” you would be laughed out of the room.

I really have very little idea how it works

but do you think the loss of Beltran for at least part of the season, and the fact at this point the mets have no other cf to turn too, had anything to do with him getting such a big increase

doubt it

since that kind of leverage kind of assumes he can walk, which he can’t. Maybe it expedited the deal, in the sense that the Mets leaned a little more to his side of the 600K or so they were quibbling over.

Introducing Buddy Alderson, Sandy's dog, and the newest member of Puppy Avenue!

Embiggen here.
Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.
