News on Reyes.
Hello all, new guy here. Just picked this up on my former go-to mets website before migrating here. Not good news:

yup just read that
can’t catch a break can we

at least it's treatable and he shouldn't miss time past that

See that's the thing...
…that’s got me more nervous. When they first announced the problem last week, I kept hearing from posters, Dr.‘s, newscasters, etc., that the problem is fixed with medicince and he’ll back in no time. I can’t recall anyone saying that the treatment might be absoultly no physical activity for 2 months.
by Crazy Nyce Dave on Mar 11, 2010 1:03 PM EST up reply actions
the treatment is actually = lay off the seafood.
the rest is to prevent complications.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
And Jose
follows in the grand tradition of Duaner Sanchez as a player whose culinary choices appear to have screwed over himself and the team.
The same could be said about Mo Vaughn, I suppose, but in a very different way.

It must not be Graves disease
which is the most typical cause of hyperthyrodism and what everyone was assuming.

SS options
Anyone have thoughts whether it might be worth it to throw Tejada into the mix to play SS for a few weeks while Jose is on the shelf? All other things being equal, he should be in the minors, but how would his expected production compare to Cora’s?
by dontstopbelieving on Mar 11, 2010 1:13 PM EST up reply actions
I doubt its worth it
To add him to the 40-man already just so he can fill in for a week. I really don’t expect him to be any better than Anderson Hernandez, except perhaps defensively, but is one defensive run or so really worth adding him and using an option?

Ah, forgot
that he’s not on the 40-man. Yeah, that pretty much seals it.

According to Metsblog, Minaya said he has confidence in Cora and Tejada
No mention of Hernandez. This is what I love about the Mets — they love old, mediocre players from outside the organization who are relatively expensive (like Cora) but aren’t keen on their own young, mediocre-to-average players who are cheap (Hernandez, Evans, Carter, etc)
by Bieser's Balk on Mar 11, 2010 1:55 PM EST up reply actions
Hernandez
is pretty awful. Anyone think Russ Adams might merit a shot or is his defensive ability not up to snuff for shortstop? Hitting-wise, he might be the best option – has a little pop, unlike all the others.
by dontstopbelieving on Mar 11, 2010 2:03 PM EST up reply actions
I'd prefer Adams
over Cora, without a doubt.

Tough strike zone
Poor Pelf isn’t getting any help from this ump. Shame really because he’s pitching ok.
He was a boy of soft demeanor
And he loved his caburetor cleaner
Keith Ron and Kevin talking about how errors are useless
and fielding percentage a waste. I love it!
Did Kevin B just say the...

Pretty sick

how has pelf looked so far
score doesn’t look favorable
by KeithsMoustache on Mar 11, 2010 1:44 PM EST reply actions
The way I see it...
Really not too bad. Some ground balls that got through/a rough strike zone from the ump in the first inning. Then two 1-2-3’s back to back. He’s throwing a lot of first pitch strikes.
by SheoawnnGreen23 on Mar 11, 2010 1:45 PM EST up reply actions
Re grounders that got through
Are they balls that got through because of Cora/Castillo’s lack of range? Because unfortunately, that’s gonna be a recurring problem.
by dontstopbelieving on Mar 11, 2010 1:49 PM EST up reply actions
Eh..
The first was a bad hop down the third base line out of reach of Wright and the other was right between Wright and Cora. It wasn’t so much that they weren’t legit hits but that Pelf wasn’t hit that hard (though VMart absolutely yanked one).
by SheoawnnGreen23 on Mar 11, 2010 1:55 PM EST up reply actions
So two to 8 weeks on Reyes?
Could they be slightly more vague? How about 2 to 20 weeks? Then Minaya has the nerve to brag about his Cora signing. What douchenozzle. Yup, Felipe Lopez couldn’t of helped this team for a couple weeks.
Example 9,456 why you just worry about improving your team each offseason
As opposed to saying, we have second and short locked up, no need to pursue a ridiculously cheap option like Felipe Lopez.
Freak injuries and illnesses happen. As someone said in an earlier thread, you can’t anticipate them happening to specific players, but you should anticipate them happening to somebody.

Please, you don't expect anybody around here to feel bad for your Tar Heels?

maybe Gina
since she goes there.
Just a little shocked by how bad they were. They do have the top recruit coming in, Harrison Barnes (he may stick 4 years and be about as hated as hansbrough by then). Yeah, 2 titles last 5 years. Boo hoo.
She?
Why do you say that?

Pelfrey didn’t look too bad. He got some bad luck in the first, but settled down. Got a lot of Ks, too.
Stoner didn’t look too bad, either.
