Better Late than Never Applesauce - Beltran rehab, Francoeur green light, Mets and Beimel
Meet the Mets
I'll start with some good news this afternoon. Carlos Beltran's rehab is going fine and hopes to be back by May.
And I'll even throw in some laughs. I really have no idea when these Wilpon video blog things started, but I hope he keeps them up.
But, there's always something to complain about. How about how the opening day lineup looks right now? Or the fact that Jeff Francoeur has been given a green light to steal bases?
Then there's also just the random stuff. Like Joe Beimel is still on the Met radar. And Johan Santana's slider may not be as effective as it used to be.
Or we could just do some psychoanalysis on Big Pelf.
Around MLB
I got worried when I saw Vin Scully was hospitalized (it's the only time I watch the away broadcast on MLB.TV for Met games), but he will be fine after he bumped his head.
Stephen Strasburg's college coach Tony Gwynn sat down with Sirius/XM's Inside Pitch to talk about baseball's top pitching prospect.
Adrian Gonzalez hinted that he would be willing to take deferred money to stay in San Diego.
Paul Lo Duca may not be done in the majors.
Aroldis Chapman is quickly becoming a Cincinnati legend.

I'd be curious to see if Francoeur thinking about what the pitcher is doing while he's at first would rub off in the batters box.
Who cares how bad the Bay deal will look in 2013, the world is going to end in 2012 anyway
Maybe he'll be so distracted
He might accidentally take a pitch.

Anything to increase his fantasy value
I got him off the waiver wire in my fantasy league.

Why was Francouer given the green light?
My brain hurts.
If there's ever a riot at Citi Field and Oliver Perez was the starter, I started the riot.
Applesauce
Yes. Omar Minaya has been given an offer, and has accepted to be the lifetime manager of the New York Mets; until the day he dies!
Francoeur “never learned how to steal bases with the Braves, explaining that it wasn’t part of Atlanta’s offensive philosophy”. That just made me laugh; Don’t know why. As for Francoeur actually stealing, so long as it doesn’t backfire in our faces (which it probably will), I’m all for it. I like the fact that this team, for the last couple of years, has led the league in stolen bases.
This rash of Mike Pelfrey articles is making me somewhat irrationally angry. I think I’m going to make a big long fanpost about it, and how it’s all stupid.
Aw, man. If we went after Chapman, we could be experiencing Chapmania right now. Instead, we’re trying to promote Mejia into the bullpen. Fuckin A, man…

Lineup
It is amazing how different the lineup looks without Reyes and Beltran (not that we shouldn’t be used to this by now).
The goal is to play .500 baseball until Beltran and Reyes get back. Finding a consistent arm to follow Santana wouldn’t hurt either.
Average Adam
It would have been better if Jeff Wilpon said
“Omar Minaya has been named GM of the Mets”
period.’
in 2010
Nothing can get by him; especially in a small room: Mike Francessa
But this is a great development
These should be collected somewhere. Let us hope i-trashing the Wilpons becomes the next craze
