"Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo doesn't like to rush pitching prospects to the big leagues....Strasburg, clearly the best pitcher in Nationals camp, was optioned to Double-A Harrisburg in the Eastern League."

The Nationals certainly have less of a chance to land a playoff berth than we do, but there are a lot of parallels between the two teams and our situations: They have a new manager/general manager who needs to prove himself to the baseball world, and we have a manager/general manager who is on the hot seat, and needs to prove himself. Their organization has a "plan", and our organization has a "plan". They have a good player who can benefit from being sent down to the Minor Leagues. We have a good player who can benefit from being sent down to the Minor Leagues.

Let's hope we learn from the Nationals.

It's a sad day

when we’re looking the nats for baseball guidance.

meh

Strasburg is so far ahead of Mejia the comparison is pointless. There was no reason, except money, for him not to make that team. The Mets have nothing to learn from the Nationals except how to be a perpetually losing franchise.

Oh, you know, how not to stife the development and maturation of a younger player, and all that.

Once this guy is in position

for his first big contract (if he’s any good) he’ll end up on another team anyway so it really doesn’t matter what they do with him. Best case scenario they’ll be a wild card team some year and then he’ll leave to sign a big contract.

I don't think it's a given he'll end up on another team

the Nats aren’t a small market team by any means. If they can turn things around they can likely support a fairly big payroll.
