Can someone explain this to me?
So looking at Kevin Goldstein's list, a few things jump out, such as Austin Jackson being 31 spots above Fernando Martinez. What's most striking to me however, is the inconsistency between this list and his team lists. On December 1, 2009, Goldstein listed Mike Montgomery the number Royals prospect with a four star rating and then on February 12, 2010, he listed Mejia a five star prospect and number one overall for the Mets. Somehow, between December 1 and now, without any baseball being played, Montgomery became a better player than Mejia.
I don't have a subscription, so I don't know, but does he at least explain this?

Well, he WAS a Yankee farmhand.

And Mike Lowell
For the first 5 or so years of Lowell’s career it seem like no announcer could say the name “Mike Lowell” without defining him as “former Yankee farmhand”.

I have a subscription, and....
He did not give an explaination for his rankings. He isn’t answering many questions in the comments section either. I can post the question for you posed, but I doubt he will answer it.
Maybe Toby Hyde will call him on it? He talks to Toby a fair amount I believe.
I swear by Goldstein, but he Castilloed this list.
I've learned to summarily disregard most prospect lists.

I wonder how many different variations we'd see from the community here.
I know mine would probably be quite a bit defferent than most.

There are always funky inconsistencies in KG's Top 100s
Cause he does them like halfway through or after doing all his Top 11s, so he doesn’t always realize how he’s stacking guys in different organizations up against each other until its too late.
I think the reason Fernando is getting so little love is cause these guys feel they have to gear up for next year, in case he gets injured again, and be ready to consider dropping him off Top 100s entirely, but they also want to be able to say they weren’t completely off the bandwagon in case he stays healthy, has some productive MLB time, and sheds his rookie status.
