I wonder why they teamed up Ollie and Omir.
I would think they’d want OP to pitch to Barajas and Blanco mostly.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
Hmm....
Perez vs. Marquis.
What is vs. what could have been.
This will be interesting.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
Well, that was beautiful.
Ollie walks the first guy, who steals second on the first pitch.
Next batter hits one to second out of the range of Castillo ( Castillo has a range ?).
Runner scores. Francoeur’s throw was 15 feet off the plate to the 3rd base side.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
Wow, what a start. ugh.

...and just as Ronnie was saying all we want is for him to throw the ball over the plate...
Boom !.
That ball was smoked.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
also, with ronnie's comment on that
i sure wouldn’t want a pitcher that throws strikes but gives up 10 runs a game.
Lots of pitchers throw strikes and are successful.
Just not on this team.
I mean, shit…..every coach on the bench has a video camera trained on Ollie so they can show him his motion when he gets back to the dugout. Are you kidding me.
God I hate this guy.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
The next person that says Perez is talented is getting their knees capped.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
i love unbridled enthusiasm!

LOL
Well, since we’re stuck with him as long as he gets on base, even if it’s only those singles, it’s better than nothing….

do we really have to sit through another season of oliver perez??
I mean any idiot who watches two cents of baseball knows this guy is utterly useless, we really couldn’t have thrown down a couple of bucks for Piñiero or Marquiz? I mean every season is the same with this guy, you would think we would have learnd our lesson keeping him in the rotation
I actually thought he came back to camp in great shape and that might help
Now I am asking myself “what if this is the real Perez?”
We are going to have to cut him and move on. At the very least he is going to start the season in AAA if this keeps up.
Still, it is his first start, he might improve…

Why doesn't Oli become the 2nd lefty specialist
and then another of Niese/Figgy/Nieve can start. Oli’s been very good over his career against lefties.
The only thing better than a starter who can't throw strikes
is a reliever who can’t throw strikes

Immediately regretting just having purchased MLBTV for this bullsquatch
Travis Hafner is made of gold
Davey Johnson talking on live TV with Ralph Kiner.
…and I had pledged not to drink until at least 3 PM….
you know what I'm sayin' ?
He was only 88 last year if I remember.
by aparkermarshall on Mar 7, 2010 1:45 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah
Hardly ever was reaching 90. I have to attribute that to the knee pain and poor shape he was in.

Go Frenchy!
You don't cheer for the Mets. You drink for the Mets.
It's not Frenchy.
it’s just someone who looks like him.
sort of like a stunt double.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
HOME RUN!
You don't cheer for the Mets. You drink for the Mets.
ahah
it’s like that dicktorino/pagan play all over again
I was thinking the same thing.

francoeur, cora, santos, catalanotto
in a row?! shame catalanotto became an out though.
True
Wasn’t saying otherwise. Just pointing out the irony of the Omir in the park grand slam…

I'm assuming if there were four people and three seats
based on seniority, Kevin would be odd man out
Keith isn't there I don't think.

Wright is leading off next inning.
make sure you get the bathroom break in now.
just kidding.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
I'm just getting away from my dad.
He says mean things about him to piss me off and brings bad vibes. Hence the double play. I’m very superstitious.
by wrightttxgirlllx3 on Mar 7, 2010 2:02 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
...well he only made one out this time.
So he technically did better. :)

Never underestimate the value of a bathroom break
IN ’86, every time my best friend went to the bathroom, Strawberry went deep. It got to the point that I would tell him to leave because Darryl was coming up and we needed the HR.

Looks like we have the slowest two corners outfielders in baseball.
I hope they at least hit.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
Well,
at least Frenchy can get those throws into the plate though – as we just saw.

yeah, that was a nice accurate throw.
the one in the first inning, not so much.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
Does Gary's voice sound different to anyone else?
It almost sounds like Kevin B. to me for some reason..
Well now
That makes a pretty good amount of sense then.

Tak should take Ollie's spot in the rotation.
I lobby for phantom injury and additional surgery.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
is arm amputation too much?

It is just the first start of spring training, so I'll withhold any "the sky is falling"
with Ollie. But he better not have a rotation spot locked up regardless of ST performance.
Baring injury
you know Ollie will be in this rotation come opening day.
They’re not going to release him, they can’t send him down, trading him will never happen and I can’t see them putting him in the BP.
by MetsFan4Decades on Mar 7, 2010 2:37 PM EST up reply actions
This is why I wish teams can trade draft picks
I wouldnt mind trading him for a team’s late round pick.
by aparkermarshall on Mar 7, 2010 2:39 PM EST up reply actions
Nobody would take him for nothing, let alone give up a draft pick for him.

There are a couple of other dumb GMs would trade a really late round pick for Ollie
I think Ed Wade might take him. Dayton Moore possibly.
by aparkermarshall on Mar 7, 2010 3:10 PM EST up reply actions
Not a chance.
He’d clear straight waivers without even a sniff. Nobody is dumb enough to take that contract off of our hands without us eating the vast majority of it.

Lets face it.
As long as this guy wears a Met uniform, there will be no champtionship.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
So
Wondering what happens to that ball in Citi, what do you guys think?
Still a ripped double.
That was a great hit.
If the fielder is playing deep, it's an out by the Mo Zone.
if he is playing normal depth, it’s over his head.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
sounds about right
he definitely hit it on the screws
Probably falls for a double too
He hit it really hard

Takahashi looking great...
if only he/Nieve/Figgy had 12 mill contracts!
Agree
Always enjoys his stories when he’s in the booth.
by MetsFan4Decades on Mar 7, 2010 3:06 PM EST up reply actions
Battle for 5th spot?
Takahashi, while there are question marks on his durability pitching 35 games a year, deserves to start. They were talking about maybe making him an 8th inning guy, but that would just screw him over. I think the Mets have a lot of guys who deserve the 5th spot, but no one that deserves the 2 spot. I just dont know what to do. You really can’t have 3-4 long relievers. I guess out of Figgy/Niese/Nieve/Takahashi one will be a starter, one will long relieve and 2 in the minors? (or maybe 2 long relieve?). I think we should let Takahashi have the 5th spot just to test him. He is truly a veteran, but in a new environment.. he should really be the one to beat. And it is hard to beat 6 k’s in 3 innings
I like Ike

According to that its still the bottom of the 7th

He needs to be on the same team...
…with J.J. Putz.
Odd boxscore
Not only did Francoeur draw a walk, but Ollie pitched 3 innings and the Mets only issued 1 walk.
