Unrelated to this game
I’m really surprised that there’s no video of Fernando Martinez’ two home runs on mlb.com
Though it’s great watching Takahashi and Mejia, and the other guys you don’t get to see often.
None available
That game wasn’t broadcast anywhere, so they don’t have video.
I believe I saw a clip of the one HR on youtube, shot by a fan in the stands.
I saw some grainy footage of it
on SNY Sports Nite. They only showed one of the homers and it was was from the behind home plate cam. It did look like he turned on an inside pitch though. That’s a good sign, since he got eaten up on the inside pitch last year. Him and Davis both tearing it up and hitting .588. I lobby for new/higher ranking for Mets farm system.

Nope, nah, nuh-uh.
We suck, our farm system is barren, and that’s all there is to it.

I thought they would broadcast all spring training games. Silly me.
In lobby campaign for Chris Carter.
Why is this game not televised/radioized?
Of those six pitchers, I’m really interested in seeing how four do.

So...
… the Mets can afford to bring the big guns— with Bay, Wright, Pagan and Barajas starting— but SNY can’t? Didn’t want to break that “Beer Money” broadcast commitment?
by LeiterMilnerFasterStronger on Mar 8, 2010 1:23 PM EST reply actions
They don't have broadcast rights to away games in spring training.
The home team is the only one that does.

by Stephen Schmidt on Mar 8, 2010 1:25 PM EST up reply actions
that's so dumb
a) they’re all away games
b) NOBODY gets SNY and FishTV (or whatever); there’s no competition
c) the kind of people who would watch a spring training game are exactly the kind of people who are going to steal a feed from FishTV and then you might lose them as a customer all season long
d) how much revenue are you really getting from a preseason game? how much different would that revenue be without an “exclusive” deal? (Not very)
In conclusion, and in summary, this sucks…
i live in miami and there not showing it on FishTV (FSN SOUTH FLORIDA OR SunSports)
they just show constant repeats and highlights of the Heat championship
but that shouldnt come as a suprise, most people here dont even know that the Marlins play here even if the team is costing them hundreds in taxes for a “new” stadium in the ghetto, not to mention having to demolish the only sports arena in the city that has any history in The Orange Bowl, gosh i hate florida and their take on sports, the stadiums are always empty, unless its the playoffs then all of a sudden everyone is a huge marlins, heat, dolphins etc fan
Decent first half of an inning
Fernando Martinez getting extra bases any way he can. Nice display of grission there, reaching second on Uggla’s error.
He reached first on another Uggla error.

Finally Maine gets out there
I’ve been wondering where he is. They are really bringing him along slowly.
I think they were just trying to set up his schedule so his first start would fall April 9th.
Looks like they’re going to go Johan, Pelfrey, Perez, Maine, #5

Or had I just not noticed in the last couple

Fernando Martinez PA's that don't end in a ball in play or home run so far
BB: 0
SO: 0
How long can he keep it up?

It says on Gameday that Maine only used 8 pitches (all strikes) in the first inning
Is there any way that’s correct?
I don't think its tracking the pitches properly
It does that sometimes in minor league and ST games. A strikeout is always just three called strikes, a walk four balls, and a ball in play recorded on the first pitch.

We should start a petition to get Pitch F/X installed in Tradition Field
Especially with the Savannah staff moving in there this year. Guess it wouldn’t really help today though.

We should send the front office a pamphlet on pitch f/x first,
That way they’ve at least heard of it.

I'm surprised minor league ballparks don't have pitchf/x in general
It’s a tool known to be used by front offices for the major leagues and it could be an invaluable tool for player evaluation throughout the organization.

There are a couple parks in Arizona that have it
There may be a handful more but I know there aren’t many.

4 K’s in 1.2 IP is awesome but strikeouts drive up pitch counts.

Have to have been
a ton of foul balls in there to reach 50 in 1 2/3rds of an inning, don’t you think?

Was he at 50?
If so that would be pretty typical Maine

It could have been lower than that
given he’s fragile as it is and coming off an injury. They might be taking their time stretching him out.

Per Adam Rubin:
"John Maine’s start this afternoon against the Marlins won’t be as long the other starters, who have been going three innings and 45 pitches. Pitching coach Dan Warthen said he wants to "baby" Maine a little bit. Warthen wondered whether he worked Maine a little too hard last spring training coming off surgery."
At least he had 4 Ks
that’s a good sign. Then again, he always pitches well vs. Florida. If he’s only going to average 5 innings a start for the season, he may be of more use in the pen.
Russell Martin is going to miss the first few weeks of the season.
Think they may call about Omir?

That's why annointing him our 2010 first baseman is still WAY premature.
