Chris Carter Goes Deep Twice -- In The 9th Inning
It seems like at least one Met player has a huge day in each of these Spring Training games, leading to mass hysteria among fans about premature call-ups and rotation-to-bullpen switches. The latest hero is Chris Carter, who smacked two homers in the 9th inning of today's 11-2 triumph over the Marlins.
For whatever reason, it doesn't seem like Carter has garnered much consideration for a spot on the Opening Day roster but he really should. He's done nothing but mash in the minor leagues and never really had a shot with the Red Sox. At worst, he's a superior option to Mike Jacobs.

You would think given what they gave up to get him...
the Mets would be invested in having him do well and make the team. But as you say, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
If they opt for Jacobs over Carter for a “power bat” off the bench, there’s really nothing more to say.
He also provides more position flexibility than Jacobs
unless you think there’s a good chance of Jacobs suiting up at catcher.

it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
I don't know
I don’t think he’s ready. Not like Mejia.

This team needs to be taken away from Jerry
Quote from Lennon’s Twitter: Manuel on Mejia: “Mejia’s No. 76, Frankie’s No. 75. They might follow each other down there. That’s what I’m trying to tell you.”
If this dumb, faux-philosopher bastard talks Omar into letting Mejia start the year in the bullpen, I will lose it. It’s one thing when he screws up an inning with a needless sacrifice. Or when he screws up a game by letting Feliciano pitch to a power righty. I can even live with a terrible signing like the Cora one. But if you screw up this young, exciting potential stud starter because you want him to pitch the 8th inning before he’s ready, that’s just unforgivable.

Omar:
- Omar Minaya reiterated that the plan going into spring training was for Jenrry Mejia to open the season in Double-A Binghamton’s rotation. “That’s still the plan,” Minaya said. “It hasn’t changed.”
In lobby campaign for Chris Carter.
The full quote (via Lennon in Newsday) is scarier
“The plan coming into spring training was for him to go to Double-A and start,” Minaya said. “That’s still the plan, but we can review it at the end of spring training.”

If only we could fuse Chris Carter and Nick Evans into one person
Crick Evers. That way, I’d be able to lobby both without feeling bad for not lobby the other.

I guess Evans is hurt.
At least Jerry has an excuse for not playing him (not that its the reason, but still).

There were 77 others on the Carter bandwagon
Somehow there were 282 on the Jacobs bandwagon though.

If Jacobs makes this team over Carter
they should open an investigation. Perhaps even an X File.

Can someone tell me?
At what point am I allowed to get excited about the Mets? Do I cheer and be ever-so-happy right now because of all of this beautiful offensive production? Or, do I temper my excitement because 1. It’s “only” spring training; 2. They ain’t playing at Citi Field @ the moment.
I want to be happy, but experience tells me otherwise. Assistance please.
This season I will expect the worst but I will be prepared for 'worser'.

I'm already excited
after a winter of promising myself I wouldn’t be, it took 2 days worth of spring training and a warm day outside to get me pumped for Mets baseball. I have a disease

Even if the Mets were to fall out of contention by July (which I think is unlikely),
Between the kids on the farm and a high draft pick there is plenty of reason for optimism. It should be a fun season.

I never thought I'd be saying this
But I agree. There is so much promise for the future that I’m seeing right now, even if it is only spring training. The next few seasons should be interesting, provided Omar and the Wilpons don’t fuck it up.

someone who makes contact, bring back Rusty Staub
I am not sure on the numbers for Carter in the minors, but if he makes more contact, then I would rather have him on the PH. I don’t care so much about hitting the HR off the bench, I would rather a guy who can just get a base knock….
