Revised Zone Rating is the proportion of balls hit into a fielder’s zone that he successfully converted into an out. Zone Rating was invented by John Dewan when he was CEO of Stats Inc. John is now the owner of Baseball Info Solutions, where he has revised the original Zone Rating calculation so that it now lists balls handled out of the zone (OOZ) separately (and doesn’t include them in the ZR calculation) and doesn’t give players extra credit for double plays (Stats had already made that change). We believe both changes improve Zone Ratings substantially. To get a full picture of a player’s range, you should evaluate both his Revised Zone Rating and his plays made out of zone (OOZ).
I guess UZR is being phased out?
Sunny days ahead? Probably not.
Revised Zone Rating was basically phased out by UZR I believe
I think they’re just adding the data for the OOZ information, since UZR doesn’t take that into account I don’t believe.

How does OOZ, etc account for things like
coaches telling players to move left/right/in/out.
Shouldn’t that affect the “zone”.
Example: Jerry in his wisdom tells Bay to shade a batter towards left center. Bay, being Canadian and all, doesn’t argue and moves 20 feet to his left. This now shifts his zone.
The batter then hits a ball near the line, where Bay could have easily gotten to it, were it not for Jerry’s genious.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
That one of the problem with fielding stats
and why we are all eagerly waiting for hit f/x and field f/x.
Finally.
This brings more accuracy to fielding stats and it should be interesting to compare +/- and UZR.
It seems +/- likes the 2009 Mets OFers a lot more.
22.1 for UZR and +24 for +/. Wow. Can someone check if I’m doing this right?
I know UZR was apparently using Shea instead of Citi
I don’t know how that would affect it. But yeah there seem to be pretty massive differences for nearly every player.

Bay looks much better too.
Something seemed off when Fangraphs had the Mets total WAR at like 13 and the Mets still won 70 games. Now we can all use an average of +/- (or DRS) and UZR.
another step to World Domination
