But Burkhardt was just on the SNY pregame saying that much of how the Mets handle Mejia will come down to how they do in their next few games. Not directly quoting here, but essentially, "If the Mets aren't competitive in the next few games and Mejia only comes in as a mop up reliever, then he will probably be sent down and be stretched out as a starter. If they do well, he will probably stay as the 8th inning man. According to Burkhardt, others in the organization want him stretched out as a starter now, but Jerry is determined to keep him on the majors this year." Ojeda and Carter are discussing this now as well, with Ojeda firmly behind sending Mejia down to be a starter.
