Open Thread: Mets vs Rockies, 4/14/2010
New York Mets at Colorado Rockies, Apr 14, 2010 8:40 PM EDT
Some questions for tonight's game:
- Can young, cheap and good pitcher Jon Niese give us something to be optimistic about?
- Over/under on leverage index when Jenrry Mejia enters: 0.30
- How many cans of Copenhagen will Mike Jacobs chomp through?
- Can Jeff Francoeur extend his seven game hitting streak?
- If Jose Reyes leads off the game with a single, will Luis Castillo bunt?
- Will Gary, Keith
and Rontake more live phone calls?

what’s the over/under on Bay seeing anything worth hitting?

Over/Under 1.333333...
And that’s putting it nicely, though Jacobs has the added advantage of a “Thin Air Powerup” if he hits anything

Dammit
Now that the League is sewn up in England, and we’re out of the Champions League, I have no more excuses to not follow the Mets.

True
But they never went out and bought three or four big money players in one transfer window like Chelsea or Real Madrid do habitually – there’s always been a good number of home-grown players.
like the good old boys
Scholes, Giggs, Neville (How the hell is he still starting, and still getting mention in the press for England?)
but you have spent lots of money on Rooney, Berbatov, Carrick, Ferdinand to name a few

Neville
is a joke now, he can hardly move. He shouldn’t be keeping Rafael out of the team. Scholes is finished too. Giggs maybe has a season left as a squad player but his final ball is terrible.
Yeah, they're all fairly useless
I mean it’s a bit of an indictment of Man United’s squad when Park was brought on when you needed to score v Blackburn

it's the expectations/results thing though
the Giants after 5 games looked like a Super Bowl contender, and they had an ’07 Mets level collapse. Actually it was more like ’08, since it can almost entirely be blamed on a single unit: safeties/bullpen
The Islanders I was expecting to suck, and they stayed in the playoff race for way longer than I expected, and showed some definite growth by their young players. For the first time in my entire life I actually feel positive about the direction the Islanders are taking – they have good young talent and are patiently letting them develop. What a novel idea…

It's all up to Cora
God help us
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ
The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
Wait wait wait
Let me get this down: Tatis and Cora available.
You bring in Cora as the pinch HITTER, and you bring in Tatis as the pinch RUNNER?

I checked something
Their speed rating (2009)
Cora 4.8
Tatis 5.1
It’s near undiscernable

Here's where I disagree:
If Mejia is on the big league club, he should be there because Jerry has confidence in him. He should not be there for mop-up duty.
Of course, obviously, the decision to have him there is wrong in the first place, but not because of the home run.
by EricAColucci on Apr 15, 2010 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions
Do we think he's being pushed pretty hard on the Mejia thing
so he thought having him come through in a big spot would keep him up here?
