Things Accomplished During The 20-Inning Marathon

  • Participated in AA Gamethread.
  • Ran eight miles.
  • Lamented having to listen to Tim McCarver.
  • Listened to Tim McCarver talk about Mets players Carlos Santana, Toyota Irrigation and Jose Pagan.
  • Re-read the first fifty or so pages of Catch-22.
  • Worried that the definition of the word "average" had changed recently.
  • Drank eight bottles of Blue Moon.
  • Burned my copy of Moneyball as an offering to Jeff Francoeur.
  • Scrolled through the New York baseball writer run @IamCentaur A-Rod mockery Twitter account in search of even one funny Tweet. None were found.
  • Thought of ways to spring Lil' Wayne from jail.
  • Became angry that both Fox and New York media are still fixated on the Luis Castillo dropped pop-up.
  • Pondered if the Mariners will be the #1 or #2 rated organization in next year's FanGraphs rankings.
  • Looked up the boxscores from games Derek Bell, Todd Zeile and Desi Relaford pitched in for the Mets.
  • Did as much research as possible about summer action movie "The Expendables".
  • Wondered how long it would take for a Mets beat writer to write that this is a season changing game. (Close enough -- Adam Rubin writes that Alex Cora's awesome catch in the 10th inning "potentially helped change the direction of the Mets season.")
  • Caught up with this season's Saturday Night Live digital shorts. Generally unimpressed.
  • Drank four more Blue Moons.
  • Contemplated Mike Pelfrey becoming the "7th inning guy".
  • Rampant LOL at Jerry Manuel and Tony LaRussa's decisions.
  • Applauded one of my favorite baseball occurrences, as executed by Francisco Rodriguez: the vulture win.
  • Wondered what this game would have been like with Gary, Keith and Ron announcing. Damn you, Fox.

I'm happy the Mets won but the game was a farce. I can't even place it in the "awesomely bad" category, like the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie or From Justin To Kelly. Let's hope SNY passes over this one for the next installment of "Mets Classics" and instead locks it away like the Ark of the Covenant.
