That's poor marlins, that's poor.

If out of town scores matter so much
then why aren’t they on the scoreboard?

next time someone calls the wilpons cheap
just link to this article. replacing the burned-out bulbs in the out of town scoreboard is too expensive? wow.
This is sad
on the other hand how many people are ever actually in SUn Life Stadium for home games?

hey
there’s a whole 2-3,000 people devasted by this
And to top off their greatest season yet the new jersey nets scored 86 points...in double overtime. yes a professional basketball team only mustered 86 points in 58 minutes of basketball.
heh
the only time I’ve seen a full Marlins Home Game is in MLB ’08 for PS2

Another priceless David Samson quote
“The scoreboard no longer could be properly serviced in an economical manner, thereby causing the landlord to choose not to make that area available any longer,” Team President David Samson said. “Ten years ago, every single person in the stands, as well as every player, required an out of town scoreboard to follow and maintain all other games. Now every fan has a handheld device with Internet accessibility.”
I hope he realizes that a lot us have these things called televisions, which make it unnecessary to attend games in his landlord’s dilapidated ballpark.
Wow, that is shockingly ignorant
Does he really think everybody has a Blackberry/Ipod/something else that has useful internet access? Talk about elitist

i actually don't think it's that elitists
a few years ago maybe, but almost everything but the most basic phones/packages come with usable internet. At least usable enough to check scores, because most sites like ESPN have cell phone specific rendering.

No, it really is
It’s easy to think when you’re in an environment where most do, but if you did research on the percentage of the population with data plans I’d bet you’d be surprised. The baseball stands no doubt have fewer working class people these days, but still some, hopefully.
apparently they accounted for 21% of wireless subscribers at the end of 2009
but they expect it to account for 51% by the third quarter of 2011. Considering that, and the fact only like ten people show up to their games as it is. I can understand why they might think financially it doesn’t make sense to fix something that could be useless in a little over a years time.

Well, 50% a year and a half from now doesn't really apply
to the people who will be watching games in the meantime. It might be up to maybe 30% now? If you’re taking money from people for an event you should provide the proper amenities, not just hoard it all because they’re only going to be customers for a couple years.
When does the new stadium open?
well that's 50% nation wide
I’d imagine in a major metro area like Miami the number would be higher. And, while I agree it’s stupid to not have it, my point was more that it’s not elitist for them to use smart phones as the reason they’re not spending the money for it.

Don't worry
Management went around the stadium asking fans about this and found that 90% of the 10 fans in attendance had useable internet on their phones.
