it’s based on expected runs not actual runs, as an attempt to remove luck. But even if you just look at the teams I don’t think it’s that hard to believe, especially the d-backs their line up and pitching staffs are worlds better than ours, they’re bullpen has just been 08 mets raised to the 10th power bad, which is something that should in theory eventually correct itself, or at least be an easy fix. Pretty much the same thing with the Brewers, they’re bullpens what’s killed them. Where as until recently our bullpen arms were getting insanely lucky (highest LOB% in the majors).

I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.

lol in fact the d-backs bullpen has the lowest LOB% at 58% from their relievers

compared to our 85%.

I'll give you the DBacks, but the Brewers??

Their bullpen is bad, and unless Hoffman somehow gains 2 mph on his fastball, it won’t get any better.

As for their starting pitching…it’s really not going to get better. Gallardo is excellent with a 3.41 xFIP, but Bush, Davis, and Wolf all have xFIPs over 4.70, and Narveson has the 2nd highest xFIP on their staff with a 4.42

They’ll score runs, but I don’t understand their ranking, especially considering they’ve lost 9 straight.

These rankings don't care about actual wins. They try to estimate talent based on underlying components.

Now, that may not be what you want in your power rankings, but that’s what they’re doing.

and their offense is so much better it’s not even close.

I got an e-mail from a buddy today that has an interesting note about that game:

Gotta tell you guys a funny story. I was sitting with my friend Stu, the owner of the Rays, last night at Yankee Stadium. It was the third inning and he says to me, "I am the reason AJ is pitching like crap tonight." I called bullshit and he said, "Really. I called the league today and protested having his arms exposed. I told the league that he has these Spiderman tattoos that bother my hitters. The league said he had to wear long sleeves. He can appeal the decision, but not until tomorrow. I happen to know, he hates wearing long sleeves. It completely screws him up."
