Jerry may be feeling the heat more than we thought

This lineup is almost acceptable. Drop Cora and it would be close to decent

2B must bat second at all costs

It would be nice to see the guys who have little to no extra base hit ability bat at the bottom of the order for a change.

Not this year buddy...

I guess you and Jerry think the same. Let me ask you this, how many HR’s and clutch hits does Barajas need before he can be put in the middle of the order? Or how many times does DW have to K and choke in the clutch for him to get dropped down??

by crazyremy on May 20, 2010 7:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Here are some stats:

Wrights’s OBP: .382
Barajas’s OBP: .303
Your IQ: 80

Here we go

another night of Wright debates. Wright should absolutely be either the #2, #3 or #4 hitter considering his on base percentage numbers, and the lack of other options. He should hit nowhere else but one of those 3 spots imo.

by fxcarden on May 20, 2010 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Why cant there be an argument

I want the Mets to win just as much as everyone but lets face it, it isn;t happening without clutch hitting and right now, Wright just isn’t doing it. I hope he hits 3 HR’s tonight but to this point it isn’t happening and Bay hasn’t either nor Reyes. All I’m saying is let’s move the guy who has been clutch BARAJAS up in the order, at least to 5th.

by crazyremy on May 20, 2010 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

See.....

that is a much better way to say the same thing without pissing everybody off.

you know what I'm sayin' ?

by fxcarden on May 20, 2010 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Small sample size

It’s still quite early in the season. Wright is a far better hitter in his career than Barajas is, and it is quite likely that Barajas will falter as the season wears on, based on his career record (a far larger sample). Likewise, Wright will probably hit better in those situations as the season wears on.

As I write this, Wright hits a 3-run double. That’s a small sample, too, but it’s nice to see. :)

I'm pretty sure that's not why Jerry is mad

When did Maine hurt himself? Probably didn’t feel right warming up and tried to go out there anyway. Then after 1 batter called for the trainer. I’d be pissed too. Maybe it’s his “non pitching arm” feeling numb again, who knows. Maine offers absolutely no consistency or stability, and if I was Jerry I’d be pissed too.

Now I'm not a major league baseball GM

In fact, according to Steve Phillips, I’m not even close to being qualified. So this is just my most humble opinion, and again, for emphasis, I’m not smart enough to be a major league GM. Now, I think it would be beneficial, in situations like this where one pitcher is injured (Niese), another just got injured (Maine), and a third just being terrible (Ollie), to have your top starting pitching prospect starting games in the minors rather than pitching mop up innings in the majors so he could fill in or something. But again, I’m no GM.

his defense is anywhere near ok

and his obp isn’t that high considering how bad his slugging is. He’s barely above replacement level at this point. He doesn’t ave the speed to beat out bunts which was a big reason for his high .370 obps. He’ll be lucky to maintain the .350s, and no competent team bats him 2nd.

9th inning, the score is 10-6, and the bottom of the lineup is due.

Since this is Jerry's Mets...

Why not start the game with the bullpen, let them pitch their 3, and then bring the starter in. This makes total sense to me in context, except that BBRod would not get the save opportunity.

by fxcarden on May 20, 2010 10:38 PM EDT reply actions

i bet there is a mathematician/particle physicist out there

that could prove that the mets would be better off cutting ties with BBRod than with Jerry over some certain specified time period.

No. 3: Thursday
No. 4 and No. 5 (?) TBD

2013 ALL-STAR GAME(TM) LOGO CONTEST

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
