so is ollie making his next start?
or are they going to call up someone else along with toyota?
I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.
Tentatively, Valdes will make the start on Tuesday
Then Takahashi on Wednesday, and Pelfrey on Thursday
That’s according to Anthony DiComo

The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
Would I prefer Perez? Maybe...

You seem to forget Perez's two starts against the Phils last year...
Both hideous
Of course, a good GM wouldn’t force his manager to have to turn to such god awful options, but sadly, we don’t have a good GM.

So, the projected rotation is Johan, Pelf, Tak2, Dickey, Valdes.
Projected Pen: Frankie, Nieve, Igarashi, Feliciano, Ollie, Mejia, Dessens, Acosta
In lobby campaign for Chris Carter.
3/5 of our rotation right now are 5th guys

That may be true but it also may be an improvement
Niese is basically a #5 right now, and Ollie and Maine are not anywhere near that good.
I hate to say it, but 2/5 of our rotation would have to improve
to be considered 5th guys. Tak may be better than that but is a real wild card. Dickey is something like a 7th starter (one season out of seven with an ERA better than 5.00 ) and Valdes may even rank lower than that. Still, Tak could turn out to be a midrotation guy with less durability, Niese may come back and be all right, and one of the Mets young guys could bring a sub 5 ERA to the majors. I honestly have no idea how this is going to turn out.
I think the definitions of 5th starter are getting out of the realm of reality here
In a piece done in 2006, the Hardball Times worked out the average ERAs of 1st to 5th slots throughout MLB. Here they are:
Lg #1 #2 #3 #4 #5
MLB 3.60 4.14 4.58 5.10 6.24
AL 3.70 4.24 4.58 5.09 6.22
NL 3.51 4.04 4.57 5.11 6.26
What immediately jumps out at me is how high the #4 and #5 ERAs are. If there’s one thing most people agree on when they talk about rotation spots, it’s that a guy with an ERA over 5.00 ought to be your #5 starter. As it turns out, fewer than half of major league teams could claim an ERA under 5.00 from their #4 spot.
In that year at least, NL #4 average ERA was 5.11 and #5 was 6.26. Now, ERA is indicative, not conclusive, but it’s interesting that people think an ERA just over five means you are definitely junk – actually it makes you an average #4 starter, at least in 2006.
Excellent point. For my part I should have been clearer.
I’m aware of the numbers you mentioned, but should have stated that I think a guy like Dickey should clock in around 7th (or 8th or 9th) specificaly on the METS depth chart. I agree that a lot of people tend to think a guy with an ERA around 5.00 is a AAA lifer, whereas that level of pitching, if you combine it with the ability to throw around 25 starts a year, is worth a multimillion dollar salary.
Fangraphs ran an article that combined Figueroa’s 2009 ML numbers with his 2009 MLEs and showed he had John Lackey’s 2009 season. You don’t just chuck a guy like that on the DFA pile.
