Our next 5th starter?
Let's claim him and keep the DFA game going.

i'd like him of course
but why would the mets claim someone they recently let go and played worse than predicted afterwards?
I think Figgy burned that bridge and everything around it with his comments during the Phillies series
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
lol, this metaphor is getting a workout
Figgy should have taken a page from Pedro. Pedro basically pleaded publicly with the mets all through winter and spring to bring him back, and Omar responded with a polite thanks but no thanks. Given Pedro’s position in baseball and, ahem, slight tendency toward self-importance, that could have gotten ugly. But he got to Philly and went on and on about how he couldn’t participate in the rivalry, he loves the mets and mets fans too much. Came to pitch in New York and had a lovefest with the fans while kicking the team’s butt. That’s the way you do it.
Figgy had the fondness of the fanbase also; he could have done a much better job at protecting that, even if he had no interest in not burning his bridges with the team.
Speaking of Pedro
if we keep hanging within like 5 games of a playoff spot and we keep playing the musical chair game in the back end of the rotation, when do we give this man a phone call? He pitched very well for the Phillies last year. In spacious Citi Field, he would probably look even better. I’m starting to wonder if Citi is going to be the new Petko, where guys just pitch incredibly well there even if they aren’t great pitchers. If we get 75 innings out of Pete I think he’s probably worth at least a win.

Hell, I'd do it.
And, I’m the last guy to be a fan of signing Pedro Martinez, or these stupid “half-year” contracts. It’d be nice to see him in the post season, finally, in theory.

He could have,
but I’m guessing he was simply, honestly angry at the team for treating him like so much cannon fodder.
It startled me, how dismissively the FO acted towards him. Figgy had real value to the Mets (hell, his FIP in Filly was around 4.00) and they acted like he was a leper.
We burned the bridge and everything around it, firebombed the ashes,
and then took off and nuked the site from orbit, just to be sure.
May you be locked in a battle of wits against Jerry Manuel.

havent mets fans learned their lesson?
must we claim loser pitcher after loser pitcher
first we want marquis then ben sheets. come on guys we’ve got to set higher standards than this
Could Marquis and Sheets be more different?
Marquis has had a career of being healthy and mediocre, while Sheets has one of injury and greatness. I’d still take Ben Sheets, even if he has been struggling a bit.
yea
that wasn’t a good comparison. and sheets is awesome when healthy. he didn’t pitch in a ML game for…. 19 or so months? it’ll take him a little while to get back to where he was but if he is cheap by mid-season i’d take a chance with him.

Yes
and Nelson Cruz is an awesome hitter when healthy.
I’ll buy first class airfare to that rare event
Marquis was extremely solid for three years.
He looked like a good pickup for a pitching-thin team desperate for a durable, middle of the rotation starter.
having figgy is better than having someone than ollie
either way it would add depth if used correctly
How is Sheets a loser pitcher
and for the 10,000 time who wanted Marquis? MSM might have because it made for an easy story but I don’t think many mets fans here at least wanted any part of him.
I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.
Guilty.
I thought the Mets could have used Marquis. They could certainly have used Marquis v2004, v2005, v2007, v2008, v2009… Substitute any of those versions of Marquis for Perez and the Mets are tied with the Phleas for first in the East.
That reminds me of

screw him
he’s really not that good and i wouldn’t want him back after what he said about the Mets JUST LAST WEEK! I’ll stick with Takahashi, Dickey and Niese when he gets back.
Although, if claiming him got Mejia sent to Binghamton…………..

now that woul dbe worth it
I liked the guy, but now he is tainted by the Phillies..still if it send Mejia to the minors and makes him a starter or better ready for next season lets do it

No thank you
I’m sorry, but he has done nothing in his career to warrant such arrogant comments
Look, it was dumb to keep Sean Green over him, but the fact is he’s not a good pitcher., and being better than Maine and Ollie doesn’t change that.
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ
The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
why don't we pick up pedro martinez? a minor league deal and bring him up to pitch in the pen/spotstart.
And... It's outta here!!!
he wants to pitch for a contender down the street
I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.
I'd do it only for theoretical organizational depth, and that only.
