Eric Byrnes likely will not be joining the Mets
If Byrnes plays softball, what would this make Gary Matthews Jr.? The Mets' tee ball team looks like it has a full roster.

Besides, GMJ will just drag those kids down.
But at least he can afford to take the team out to DQ.
May you be locked in a battle of wits against Omar Minaya.

yeah but on one hand I can appreciate when players can accept they're done
I can understand why some players can’t walk away from the game, especially when given the chance to stick around with the team they started with, but seeing someone like Griffey jr struggle like he has the last 2 or so years is kind of depressing. Kind of the same with Pedro, although he clearly does have something left in the tank, just not enough for 30 starts, and not near what he was doing the earlier part of the decade. And not just them struggling, just the fact that Ken Griffey Jr is still playing and isn’t even an afterthought in MLB today it’s just weird.
I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.
I agree with you now
I used to feel differently. But the Ken Griffey Jr. situation is incredibly brutal. They can’t release him, and I’m sure he doesn’t want to retire. The worst thing for a player of his caliber is to go out like that (a la Tom Glavine as a Met, even though he wasn’t a Met legend). You never want his failures at the end to overcloud a great, great career.
Trying to believe is my full-time occupation.
