Who Knew David Wright Was So Overrated?
ESPN asked 20 questions to 100 anonymous players one of which being who is the best player and most overrated player in baseball. The answers just prove how little these guys know about their own sport.

I think it has more to do
With him playing in New York than anything else.
Probably
The top 3 are Yankees, and Jeter is tied for 4th with Wright. Looks like anti-NY backlash.
May you be locked in a battle of wits against Omar Minaya.

Yep
It almost feels like an “anti-ESPN media culture” bias, in a way; all of the players in the “overrated” section are most closely associated with the Yankees, Mets, and Red Sox. And seriously, the Mets—who won 70 games last year—got on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball 3 straight weeks, which is simply ridiculous. I can see why there is a backlash of sorts.

I don't really think it's ridiculous
regardless of the mass mockery in MSM they’re one of the most popular teams in the league, and we were playing other highly popular teams. It’s not like it was KC vs the A’s or something.
I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.
but that's the issue
fans of KC or the A’s never get to see their teams on ESPN, unless they’re playing the Yankees. I understand why ESPN does it, but I also understand why fans who aren’t from the NY-Bos. corridor complain about it.
2009 Did Not Happen
meh I don't really know what they can expect
I mean ESPN’s purpose isn’t to be fair to every team it’s to make profits. Does it really make sense for them to give 1/10th of the same coverage to teams like KC when by far the most viewers are going to be for the NY-Boston fans. Y’know don’t blame the player, blame the game.
Though I wonder how much of it is a chicken and egg type thing. Kind of like how even though the Braves fan base in Atlanta is no existent their national deal made them pretty huge nation wide. If some of the decent small market teams got regular media coverage I wonder how much of a difference it would make.
I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.
Is it a bad thing
when you don’t have to listen to Joe Morgan ever?
"Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring; besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls. It's more democratic."

I think they asked people in NYC
that is why Nick Swisher is even on the list. Outside of NY who woul darte him, he is a middle of the road player, so how could he be overrated.
If you walk down the street in Manhattan and ask these questions, yankee fans are going to say Wright is overrated because he hasn’t helped the team make it to the WS.
If you ask Mets fans they are going to bash Jeter and A-rod. I think yankee fans were bashing Joba.

I like how Jeter is one of the best and most overrated at the same time
also it’s good to see at least MLB players appreciate Utley way more than Howard, all things considered I really don’t think it’s that bad. Much better than I would expect of a similar poll of MSM.
I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.
I guess it makes sense
A lot of guys think Jeter is really good, and because a lot of guys think he’s really good, those who don’t like him think he’s overrated.
But, I mean, he is overrated… right?
You can be both overrated and good
You don't cheer for the Mets. You drink for the Mets.
this
Jeter’s a legit hall of famer. He’s not close to one of the greatest players of all time. His fans think he’s the latter, his detractors often don’t acknowledge he’s the former.
2009 Did Not Happen
That exactly.

yes
Jeter is the baseball equivalent of “Funeral” by The Arcade Fire: wildly overrated by a slobbering media, but still pretty damn good.

Jeter is both.
Overrated by his supporters and underrated by his detractors. He’s an all-time great offensive shortstop and a future Hall of Famer, although some (many) Yankee fans want to think that he’s more than this, which causes some (most) other fans to snap back and try and convince themselves/others that he’s just the big suck.

hey, they got it right with joba at least

sometimes one thing will stick out in people's minds
maybe he’s “overrated” because of the semi-questionable gold glove on his resume
"No disrespect to the batter," Figueroa said, "but tacos are good."
Jeez, what's with the vitriol against Nick Swisher?
Guy’s awesome
John Olerud, Hall of Famer. Got a nice ring to it.
I'm going to blame Yankees fans
they make it easy to hate.
