Thanks Morgan
Glad to know that it’s cowardly for players to want to be surrounded by actual good baseball players. It may not be the greatest thing that some of these guys are telling the media this, but it’s actually nice to hear as a fan that the players don’t want to carry that waste of space just due to Omar’s ridiculous contract offer.
Reyes, Thole, Wright, Beltran, Bay, Davis, Martinez, Tejada...
Not really.
It’s nice to hear they don’t want a horrible pitcher on the team? That’s not nice, that’s just 1 + 1 = 2. If they want him to go down, let them go talk to a guys face. Talking behind somebody’s back is a pussy maneuver, it’s something that teenage girls do, and whether it’s the best player or the worst player on the team, be a man, tell him to his face.

Yes, Morgan Ensberg: What is your point?
“Players who just talk behind other players’ backs are the real problem with teams.” No, players who suck are the real problems with teams, especially when they refuse to do anything productive and as a result, sit and rot (wasting a space on the roster) as the time on their contract slowly ticks away.

I wish the players who did bash Ollie would state who they were
Its not like they are bashing the cornerstone of the franchise
I don't think they want to out the guy
I think they’re just pushing across the message that it’s time to forget the embarrasment of being sent down and do whats right for the other 24 guys in the clubhouse. It’s actually nice that some players seem to be of the opinion that sucking balls is not acceptable.

I don't think Ensberg is saying...
that the anonymous players shouldn’t feel the way they do, I think he’s just saying that it’s cowardly not to be willing to have your name attached to your opinion.
I don't think cowardice should have anything to do with it.
Does Ensberg actually WANT these players to come out? How will that help the team chemistry? People will take sides, and it’ll get ugly fast. Better to just have anonymity. Ensberg’s just another media tool who views the Mets as a spectacle and nothing more.
John Olerud, Hall of Famer. Got a nice ring to it.
"Media tool" is a bit harsh
Ensberg’s schtick is that he’s a former player giving a former player’s perspective. I don’t think he’s carrying water for anyone. What he’s saying – that when players anonymously leak stuff to the media about other players, it’s cowardly and is seen as such by other players- is probably not completely off base, although I (and probably everyone on this forum and in the greater NY area) completely agree with the substance of what the players said.

I think you're right about the "media tool" part.
Sorta forgot his schtick.
John Olerud, Hall of Famer. Got a nice ring to it.
Yeah Media tool is very hard.
Talking about team chemistry squid? You of all people, really? How about instead of anonymously talking to the media about Ollie, you, I don’t know, pull him aside and tell him to his face that he needs to step up and do what’s right, like a man would do, not go crying to the guy with the microphone anonymously.

for all you know, that's already been happening for months.
You of all people, really?
that seemed a little unncecessary?
John Olerud, Hall of Famer. Got a nice ring to it.
It wasn't exactly an insult.
You just seem to be the last person I would ever expect to cite team chemistry.

morgan ensburg is pretty naive
and/or stupid about the implications of putting your name in a nyc paper, especially for a quote like that. the player stays anonymous, the message is sent and we all move on. the players name is attached to the quote, its a weeks long story and will be associated with the player the rest of their career/time in new york.

He isn't saying to put his name in the paper,
He is saying don’t say this to the media just say it to the mans face, you see him every day. Billy Wagner had no problem attaching a name to his statements. Some of you guys are just so against the media you attack whatever they do. Even thought most of the time they are wrong, how is this wrong? Talking behind somebody’s back is for cowards, straight up fact. Morgan Ensberg isn’t some idiot because he objects to going behind somebody’s back. It’s like how a lot of you act like nothing at all is wrong with David Wright, to over compensate for the people who act like everything is wrong with him, when in reality there is some middle ground.
If the point of the article is that you are a pussy/coward for giving anonymous messages to the media instead of talking to a man’s face and telling him what you want to tell him, then I agree.

the fact is none of us know how the conversation yielding these quotes went down
maybe the player let something slip when he didn’t think he was “on the record”
morgan ensberg is gunning for a media job (says so on his blog) and he himself is just writing this shit to be noticed

How is Mike Puma gossipping
Isn’t that his job?
Gas prices today are a lot like a pitcher's ERA. Anything under 3 is amazing, under 4 is pretty good and anything 5 and up is something you want to avoid.
I wish they would release the players names
so I could send them a gift basket of some sort and buy their jerseys
hah, exactly
they would immediately become the most popular mets

Ensberg is another guy that hung on
for about a half year too long, hogging a roster spot, and should have been cut sooner by the Astros. It’s not surprising he feels this way.
What’s really cowardly is being afraid to go to the minors and actually work on your game. It’s very possible that Perez is afraid he’ll suck in AAA too, and then what do you do with him? His career would be over in the minds of all 30 major league teams.
These Mets players that are speaking out, while possibly breaking a so-called “code” are actually concerned that Ollie is screwing this team out of a roster spot, what’s wrong with that? They should be commended for speaking about it in hopes it falls on someone’s ears in the front office.
They should be commended?
Why can’t they tell Ollie to his face to go to the minors? It’s that simple.

And fwiw
I agree with the substance of what was said, I just will never agree that going behind somebody’s back and using the media to get your anonymous opinion out is cowardly. Ollie is in that same clubhouse, be a man and tell him face to face. You guys said that it is nice to see that these guys actually care that Ollie is dragging them down, but do they actually care that much, if they were to afraid to attach their name to what they said? If you care about something, but you don’t care about it enough to risk attaching your name and taking some heat, how much do you actually care?
If I had a coworker bad mouthing me behind my back, even if he was right in what he was saying, I would not be pleased and I would absolutely want to have a word with that person. But hey, that’s what’s awesome about the anonymous quote.

What evidence do you have that the guy(s) hasn't also said it to Ollie?
I suspect a lot of people are working their best bits of persuasion right now.
Um,
people don’t usually say something to your face, and then go say the same thing in an anonymous quote to the newspaper. How do I know whoever made said this to the paper didn’t also say it to Ollie? I don’t know. Common sense tells me it is unlikely.

I don't see it that way at all
I could see plenty of guys trying to persuade Ollie, then coming to the conclusion, like most of us, that it’s really Boras’ decision, and deciding a little public pressure might be useful.
My guess is they know management doesn't agree with them,
and they are concerned about being singled out in the clubhouse if they made the statement themselves. Jerry is definitely a guy who holds a grudge (see Ryan Church and Frank Thomas).
May you be locked in a battle of wits against Jerry Manuel.

Seeing this makes me happy Ensberg had a shitty career
and I used to like him for some reason
"I only wanted a few things out of life -- a wife, children, to play baseball and to hunt deer." - Turk Wendell
He carried my fantasy team for a month
He and Johnny Gomes each had that one ridiculous April in 06.
So there’s that.
I picked him up in 05
36 homers = win. He was supposed to be what Mark Reynolds is now.
That being said, I frankly dont give a rat’s ass what Morgan Ensberg thinks. How many championship rings does he have? Right, step aside, loser.
