Jerry Manuel said that if Carter continues to hit well, he might play the outfield when the Mets return to Citi Field. Manuel said Carter could play the outfield for Jeff Francoeur or Jason Bay at home, and that Bay could replace Angel Pagan in centerfield, allowing Carter to play left.

Oh boy
Why would you bench your best outfielder this season?

AHAHAHAHAH
so they were dead serious about that “he played cf in pittsburgh” thing.
I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.
But what good is it
if it means taking out Pagan? I don’t know why they want Bay in CF & I doubt Francoeur platoons anyway.

Carter > Bay > Francoeur
in Citi? You have to be freaking kidding me.
Not unless Pelf is pitching and he plans on going all Steve Nebraska on someone.
Stick Hundley in right and that is the worst defensive outfield in history.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
Huh? What? Eh?
Why is it so hard to just platoon Carter and Francoeur? This is agreeable for everyone involved, us, the team…

yea why mess with Bay he already is struggling with the bat
why give him more pressure to play CF. Just spell Frenchy and occasional day to Bay.
Wait, what?
Jerry finally realizes that Carter deserves more playing time, but it will come at the expense of Bay and/or Pagan, either/both of whom will see reduced playing time in favor of Frenchy. New Demotivator: Every cloud has a silver lining. Many of them also have lightning.

I don't think it really says that
It says he could play for Francouer OR Bay OR Pagan (moving Bay to center.) Basically, he’s saying Carter could take over for all three of their outfielders.
Yes, I agree that of all of them Frenchy is the one that should get the least playing time, but at least criticize Jerry for what he’s actually saying, and not put words into his mouth. He’s saying Carter will be the utility outfielder who will play when any of their other outfielders take a day off. Bay and Pagan will both need days off, and using Carter/Bay/Frenchy or Carter/Pagan/Frenchy is better than using Bay/GMJr/Frenchy, etc.
2009 Did Not Happen
Jerry is basically saying that when Pagan needs a day off, he will use Carter instead of Feliciano.
In lobby campaign for Chris Carter.
yea, as I said in the other thread
I forgot about Feliciano. Still, that isn’t at all what BobbyV was complaining about, or what a lot of people have been complaining about, namely that they interpreted this quote to mean Frenchy would be playing instead of Bay or Pagan.
2009 Did Not Happen
i agree
he is saying that when Pagan needs an off day, Carter can fill in for Bay and Bay can play center.
Also – I could not find that quote anywhere on the link provided…
I am a fan of both the mets and knicks... so just kill me now.

I promise, it was there when I posted it.
The same Lady wearing Gray
back when she was pimping WMDs, or just now when she couldn’t tell the difference between 8 and 16 games over .500?
“The Met are 36-28, eight games over .500 for the first time since the final game of the 2008 season, when they were 89-73.”
Mets best OF (preBeltran):
optimal lineup
v RHP: Bay-Pagan-Carter
v LHP: Bay-Pagan-Francouer
Bay rests only when the Mets face a lefthanded starter:
leaving Carter-Pagan-Francouer when Mets start a groundball pitcher
and leaving Feliciano-Pagan-Francoeur when the Mets start a flyballer
Pagan is nothing special against lefties so can get an occasional extra day off against them, yielding an OF of: Bay-Feliciano-Francoeur
wait why would Bay rest when we face a left hander? he's a righty and hits
lefties better.
I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.
I know he does, it's a matter of getting Francouer ABs against lefties only.
Therefore, assuming we’re going to be giving Bay a day off at some point during the season, we can go with the two CFer defense when we have a flyballer going against a righty.
Bay hits lefties better than righties, but his platoon difference is nowhere near Francouer’s platoon difference. If you sit Francouer instead of Bay you could go Bay-Pagan-Feliciano against lefties, but if that’s the case you might just as well DFA Francouer as soon as Beltran comes back, if not before.
Hmm. I was stretching to get Francouer in the lineup at least a third of the time but you may have a point…
That should read "we can go with the two CFer defense
when we have a flyballer going against a lefty."
It’s my job this week to confuse you.
umm...
there’s nothing wrong with that quote, either. She was obviously meaning they are at least 8 games over .500 for the first time since the last game of 2008. I don’t think anyone would think she meant they are exactly 8 games over for the first time since _______ (insert last day that they were exactly 8 games over .500, obviously some time earlier in 2008)
2009 Did Not Happen
Then it should read,
"The Met are 36-28, the first time they have been at least eight games over .500 since the final game of the 2008 season, when they were 89-73."
It’s a thoroughly odd comparison, since being eight games over has nothing to do with the end date of the 2008 season that she cites. She would also have been better off writing, instead, “the Mets are eight games over .500, a height they last reached on [say] August 18, 2008, on their way to an 89-73 record.”
Not exactly.
The article could have been more precise by saying “at least 8 games”, or something to that effect. But this is really just nitpicking.
May you be locked in a battle of wits against Jerry Manuel.

I love how every instinct that Jerry seems to have is so totally wrong
somebody should tell him to do the opposite of what his instincts say. He’d be a pretty good manager.

I think y'all are misunderstanding
He is talking about occasionally giving Pagan and/or Bay a day off, which isn’t crazy, especially during a stretch with few off-days and/or weak competition. The strategy he describes tracks exactly something we discussed on one of the game threads as a strategy for dropping GMJr in spite of his ability to play CF, and no one freaked out when it was mentioned then.
I think this is Jerry finally coming around to some decent thinking. He may even have been following our threads!
