Megdal Makes a Case for Pedro
Tough to argue with his points. He did have decent K and BB rates in his 44 innings last year. He also wouldn't cost prospects or put the Mets on the hook for a big contract.

Meh
I just don’t know that he is a big enough upgrade over Takahashi or Dickey to be worth the risk of him finally collapsing as a pitcher.
I am slowly being won over by the idea of Kelly Johnson, though.

kelly johnson for who though?
and is it worth pining over a move the team would never do since Luis Castillo is not likely being released or traded?
Perotto says the Mets are in on him
And they have actually been trying to move Castillo forever. they might be able to eat enough money now to make a move there.

You'll find no problem from me.
I wanted him last year. I thought it was perfectly clear in 2008 he could still pitch. He had movement, sharpness, just no command. The command apparently came back last year and I think he could really help out somebody, if not the Mets. If the move is Pedro to back end, Tak to the bullpen, Mejia to the minors, then sign me up.

Risky business in my opinion
but he could be a nice addition. Lets just leave it at I wouldn’t be mad if we got him and moved Tak back to the pen, and I wouldn’t be mad if we didn’t.

agreed
would not be want to rely on him in the playoffs or anything though. I know Charlie is blamed for leaving him in for 130 pitches, but I don’t believe Pedro would have been as good as he was the rest of last season anyway or be able to repeat the better part again this year.
in other words
as a 5th starter with Taka in the pen, he looks alright. He could probably be ready by the time Maine is proving he can’t start – although I obviously hope that is not the case for Maine, I want him to succeed but just don’t have high hopes
i want to believe maine still has that complete game shutout john maine hiding in there somewhere
but ive become very skeptical that such is the case

nope, sure doesn't
too bad, a lot of promise and not much payoff. Lets hope he comes back from his DL stint with a bit more zip on the fastball and maybe he can at least displace Mejia. For that alone he’d be a hero.

Last year I was against it
but this year I think I am for it…he showed he still could be valuable last season in Philly and quite honestly, it is really tough to root against Pedro. I also like the fact that it’s short term, you don’t have to give up prospects and the money shouldn’t be all that much considering he’ll be pitching less than half a season. From the Mets point of view, I think this would be a good move, as long as they are willing to cut the cord on him if he doesn’t look like he has it. That was the problem in 2008…he was terrible (let’s face it…he was routinely getting shelled out there) and yet the Mets refused to move him out of the rotation. As long as he’s healthy (and he looked healthy last year) I think it’d be a better alternative to most starters on the trade market (although I still really like the idea of getting Kevin Millwood, provided he doesn’t cost much in terms of prospects).
Another concern is innings, as Pedro is basically a 5/6 inning pitcher at best these days, but maybe you piggyback him with Takahashi. That could be a shrewd move and end up yielding a better than league average pitcher on the cheap.

My biggest concern was his stamina, too, so I looked it up. It's not bad at all.
- Two over 100 pitches
- Three into the 7th inning
- I have no idea what happened here, but in general, he stayed in the game if effective.
NO. that's all I can say
but, he is probably a better option than Jake Westbrook, Millwood and any of those 2nd-tier starters.
"Fantasy, reality, science Fiction. Which is which? Who can tell?"
wait
What you said doesn’t make sense. An absolute no, but better than Westbrook and Millwood? You should explain that one. Not only do you think Pedro is a better option, but we also won’t have to send away anybody for him? But it’s an absolute no?
ain't had enough...
Right
I don’t know that anyone can say that he is better than Westbrook or Millwood right now (because no one has seen him pitch is 8 months), but I would take the gamble considering that we don’t have to give up any young talent to sign him.
I’d take my chances with Pedro over John Maine any day.
