This Week in Mets Quotes

Using his access and reporter skills to feel the true pulse of the team, that’s his stance
"RT @KBurkhardtSNY: Mets have sent Mejia to AA Binghamton as a starter. No corresponding move yet This smells like prepping for a trade!!"  via AllenY70 twitter

"@AllanY70 totally agree" via KBurkhardtSNY’s twitter, Bobby Parnell was called up within the hour.

Star-divide

Hello Hello Mr. Manuel Reyes wants the little house not the castle
"That’s home for him," Manuel said, referring to the leadoff spot. "I was trying to take him out of his home, trying to take him somewhere else. He was in a little house. I was trying to get him to a castle." Via nyt

Can we convince Manuel that RF is Pagan’s home, he seems to be fixated on homes
"It’s home and he might end up there, I don’t know."  Manuel regarding if Beltran would play in Puerto Rico via nyt

Don’t worry, it happens to lots of guys
"I was unsuccessful." Dickey regarding being unable to convince Jerry to let him finish via sports.yahoo.com

Conversely, you can pay him enough that he is contractual required to maintain a dyed as well as adequately groomed moustache
"I know the core is important but during spring training if someone was watching me I would do sit ups then when they turned their back I layed down…you couldn’t pay me enough to do sit ups."  Keith Hernandez during the Tigers-Mets broadcast

Being a lifetime Mets fan allows you to see the silver lining in anything
"He’s got nice batting gloves though" Gary Cohen after Detriot pitcher Armando Galarraga swung helplessly over two changeups to start his first at bat.

I knew something was off against Detriot, Takahashi didn’t stay in the moment
"He really made some adjustments.  To watch him manage that lineup for six innings was impressive. You never got the feeling that he was going to flinch. He stayed within the moment and pitched extremely well."  Manuel regarding Takahashi shutting down the Yanks via sports.yahoo.com

Who says Jerry doesn’t believe in number crunching
"So, when they called and said, ‘He’s your guy,’ I said, ‘Well, O.K., here we go.  Now to have him as a part, if you ask me on a scale of 1-10, he’s a 9.8."  Manuel reveling his intricate calculation which is accurate to the tenth via nyt

He has a vision and I like his vision
"He has a vision. I congratulated him. He came into camp to make the team. He succeeded. Mejia has a vision. He's focused. He knows what he wants to do. This is where he wants to get. He wants to be a starter. He sees himself as that. He's focused. He sees this as something that's going to help him long term."  Omar via sports.yahoo.com

Seinfeld is not a fan of interleague play
"There’s a drive to left field," he said. "And it’s going to find the glove of ... I don’t know the name of these guys. Why is Detroit here?" Seinfeld via nyt

No joke here, I just like picturing Pagan and Beltran chatting on the telephone
Angel Pagan
speaks with Carlos Beltran frequently on the telephone. "He always tells me the good job I’m doing," Pagan said. "And I always tell him, ‘Hey, we need you here.’ Via nyt

Good one Girardi
"I think it’s global warming," Girardi said to laughter after Sabathia shut down the Mets and beat Roy Halladay after struggling in May via sports.yahoo.com

He later added, then maybe Gina will think I’m better than Manny Acosta
"[I plan to] trust my stuff, attack the hitter and try and stop nibbling."  Parnell via nyt

SiteBot FacePalm Quote of the Week
"Jesus, what’s with the sheer venom in [Eric Simon's] tone every time you mention Jeff Francoeur’s name? What, did he take your lunch money or something? We get it, you’re Mr. Cool Enlightened Forward-Thinking Statistics Genius. Get over yourself." Via GeddyLeeIsGod

This is one of my favorite things about the site

Soko should be added to the news guru list at the bottom.

I agree, Eric Simon get this man a job title

Gas prices today are a lot like a pitcher's ERA. Anything under 3 is amazing, under 4 is pretty good and anything 5 and up is something you want to avoid.

i like how the last two quotes are the same

was the defense of the ‘homerun as rally killer’ argument from last week already?

It'd be funny

if you changed your title to exactly that.

no love for adamlawson?

He must have said something worth shaking our heads over. I guess you can’t encourage the trolls

He was just boring and repetitive.

His stupidity is what was memorable.

Geddy swept the awards...

Though Adam Lawson should get the world’s quickest Lifetime Achievement Award.

I don't think I remember that thread.

Which one was Adam?

May you be locked in a battle of wits against Jerry Manuel.

Two nights ago.

Or maybe 3. Adam Lawson’s one night performance during the Tigers game made trolling history.

by MookieTheCat on Jun 26, 2010 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions

Kind of like Don Larsen...

One night’s performance = will never be forgotten.

by MookieTheCat on Jun 26, 2010 12:12 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm behind on most of the threads.

I’ll have to be sure to read through the game threads now.

May you be locked in a battle of wits against Jerry Manuel.

I went back and read that one.

That’s a lot of asshole in a very small amount of comments. Adam may be gone, but we will always remember his legacy. And his email address.

May you be locked in a battle of wits against Jerry Manuel.

What's better?

“Mr. Cool Enlightened Forward-Thinking Statistics Genius” or “mr, baseball tim kurjen wanna be ..”?

"Blinding ignorance does mislead us. O! Wretched mortals, open your eyes!"

Aw, man. I completely missed that thread.

Fuckin’ work and it not allowing me to spend the amount of time on AA that I should be spending on it…

Me too.

Stupid job, refusing to let me read AA all day long. It’s not like there’s much else to do some days.

May you be locked in a battle of wits against Jerry Manuel.

I'm going to try to keep the SiteBot award,

for somewhat baseball related comments instead of straight up trolling but there are exceptions to every rule, consider your suggestion in consideration.

by Sokojoe on Jun 26, 2010 10:32 AM EDT up reply actions

I think it's more in the spirit of SiteBot

to have them be comments about baseball, that just make you go “ugh…”.

I had no idea there were so many rules

But this makes sense, so consider the nomination provisionally withdrawn. However, I still think it’s a hilarious comment.

by anonymous on Jun 26, 2010 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions

...what?

If there's ever a riot at Citi Field and Oliver Perez was the starter, I started the riot.

Well, Eric's better than me...

John Olerud, Hall of Famer. Got a nice ring to it.

2013 ALL-STAR GAME(TM) LOGO CONTEST

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
Jon Rauch is awesome. Dan Tanna is, obviously, a fan of Greg Pomes.
