I wasn’t bothered. Germany played really well, their midfield is really fantastic. England looked old, tired, unimaginative and disorganised. People will still focus on that disallowed goal, as if it would have made a difference.

i had to stop watching after the 3rd goal. At this point I just hope they keep Capello around and let him engineer a rebuilding or youth movement or something.

I think his in-tournament management was poor. Terry should have been dropped, he was very poor. I agree that a total rebuilding is in order though.

Half the problem

is that they are simply not world class. Many of the star players are flattered by their (largely non-English) club colleagues. I think they need to start going abroad and playing in other top leagues because they are stuck in a premier league mentality, which means they foul too much, can’t keep possession and are too impatient.

That is exactly it

Watching England play, they all seem to try and play with the same mentality as they do in the EPL. Outside of the EPL fouls are called at a much higher frequency, and quality possession is much more important.

The same goes for the Champions League, where a lot of English teams struggle because of the different play style.

Having said all that, I wish the World Cup were more like the EPL personally. Its far more entertaining to see the players actually be allowed to play a bit physically, and not rely of cute passing all the time.

Yeah

I like that style better myself, but half the deal is knowing the rules of engagement, and England are poor at that. Also they are pretty dopey as a bunch, I think that affects their ability to adapt. And arrogant too. I could go on.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal lost by marginal margins, and were probably unlucky to lose. The only one to really get hammered (and only lost 2-0) was United.

it seems like he’s not finishing his pitches, and its losing him a couple mph and some bite on his changeup (maybe its just confirmation bias, but i remember it having more motion in previous years)

Oddly enough, its Dickey who I feel most comfortable with. Unless Johan learns a new pitch or two I don’t think he’ll be all that effective anymore. He’s got to practice his control in the throwing sessions too.

Like 2-3 years ago they were getting slammed for their defense stats

And as a result their WARP stat. And justifiably so. Their writers kinda sucked for a long time but the last 9 months or so they’ve improved. Added Tommy Bennett, Colin Wyers, Matt Swartz, all great saber types and great writers. Bennett is especially talented as a writer.

Yeah yeah, he’s getting hits and whatnot, but we probably could have gotten similar production for far less than what he’s being paid. Of course thanks to Beltran in 05 he gets an automatic pass because its hard to produce in NYC after getting a big contract! Cry me a river.

and if there’s a blown call an official in the booth or whereever will just alert the ref or the ref can ask for a review from the booth. 1 challenge per team. Done. Takes a minute, maybe two tops.

yeah i did

i just wanted to rant about the stupid.

i mean in theory I don’t have a problem with that type of workload plan, because they were limiting him to 60 pitches a game. But it’s stupid when he’s just spent weeks being underused to suddenly think he can throw 60 pitches every 3 days with no repercussions.

well I don't mean building up the workload to stretch him out.

I mean using that kind of workload at times during the development stage so his muscle endurance is stronger and he can go deeper into games.
