I hope we hit Chris Coghlin again for Tejada

I really kind of dislike him now after seeing his wacked out Twitter

He has the right to whatever beliefs he has

but there’s very little tackier than the “2009 NATIONAL LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR” thing he has.

lolololol

on espn they’re talking about how heart breaking Griffey Jr leaving is because no one’s ever played with such joy and excitement and love for the game and no one in the league today plays with that same love and everyone else treats it like work rather than fun and how that passion is missing for the game now…

i facepalmed.

I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.

I'll give them Griffey was a special player

and its weird to think of him not in baseball, but the statement is still inane nonetheless

I mean, I see the point

That’s a big part of why i liked him as a kid. But also because of the “being really good at baseball” thing.

MOAR Aminal against RHP
MOAR Mejia starting in the minors
MOAR Dubs AB higher in the lineup
MOAR Tejada (and no Cora)

I have no issue with people who support Selig’s call. I disagree, but that’s not a big deal.

I honestly don’t get this whole “It’s even more special this way” stuff. What happened the next day with Galarraga and Joyce the next day was fantastic, a great moment. But it’s totally unrelated to the commissioner’s decision to let the call stand. Selig reversing the call would have not taken away from the graciousness Galarraga and Joyce displayed.

From a NYPost article about trading for Cliff Lee, one of the comments:

“I was willing to give Perez a chance this year. I really was. If you look at his stats and compare them to Nolan Ryan at the same point in his career, they are very similar pitchers, in fact, Perez wasn’t quite as wild as Nolan. When he’s “on” he can be almost unhittable, but when he’s “off” he gives the team absolutely no chance to win. Just like Ryan in the late 60’s and early 70’s.

But Perez is too much of a headcase. Moreso than Ryan."

by Stargazey on Jun 6, 2010 2:27 PM EDT reply actions

Very similar except that whole

leading the league in Innings Pitched, SO thrice, SO/9 thrice, Hits/9, and having an ERA+ of 111 as opposed to 91 through his first nine seasons. (Ollie has pitched 9 seasons if that wasn’t obvious)

Ryan Miller was the true MVP.

indeed

you don’t want your best hitter batting third. Per some hardball times piece I saw, that’s for your first best hitter. Optimally, 1,2,4 and 5 are your 4 best.

trading kirk now would be selling way way low

he could easily be our top prospect by this time next year. He’s going to be a great defensive player and has the tools to have a plus bat.

by wobatus on Jun 6, 2010 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions

The walk rate appears to be an aberration

It was over 9% the past 2 years, this year it’s 4. And he does strike out, but 21% is ridiculously high. Davis K’d 25% last year in AA.

by Evan_S on Jun 6, 2010 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Lee is a buy high candidate.

He is way above his career peripherals, he is bound to regress.

In lobby campaign for Chris Carter.

by Michkin on Jun 6, 2010 4:22 PM EDT up reply actions

true

but he’s been very good 3 years running. I would take him for half a season in Citi, get a draft pick (or is it 2), in exchange for Kirk. It is close though, and only if Mets are contending by late July.
A top pick gives you at shot at someone as good as Kirk, I’d think. Not guaranteed, of course, but a reasonable simulacrum. Although it was nice to snag him relatively late.

by wobatus on Jun 6, 2010 4:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes

which suggests we’d give up more than Kirk. The debate now is would you trade Kirk for Lee, not should Omar try to put together a package. That would end up Kirk, Havens, mejia and Feliciano, and Lee would be injured.

by wobatus on Jun 6, 2010 4:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Haha exactly.

But just Kirk for Lee seems a bit unrealistic.

but some were suggesting they wouldn’t even do that. Oh well, thanks for playing, we have some nice parting gifts for all the contestants.

by wobatus on Jun 6, 2010 5:01 PM EDT up reply actions

OK

you are right. I thought it was higher. He is toolsy, and was awesome second half of last year. My bad on the K rate. Colvin had a low walk rate and much higher k rate in AA last year.

by wobatus on Jun 6, 2010 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah but thats a 3 months sample size for Kirk

which shouldn’t override his previous production. And he’ll be playing plus defense at a position lower on the defensive spectrum. If they were even hitters, which I’m not sure if they will be but were, Kirk would still be way more valuable.

I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.

by Gina on Jun 6, 2010 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions

since it is all spec anyway

I do think Millwood, in Citi, for a scrub prospect may make more sense. Gee?

Thing is we all fall in love with all the prospects. i am glad Omar has held onto more recently, and didn’t waste any mid season last year. But if we are contending, someone outside the big ones (I will throw Kirk in there, with Flores, F!, Havens, Allen, familia, tejada, Mejia, etc.).

I dunno, do the O’s like Satin?

by wobatus on Jun 6, 2010 5:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I'd trade Meija, Tejada and F!

I just wouldn’t trade most of the others because I don’t think we’d get real value back based on their ages, guys like Flores/Allen/Familia are too young/to far away at this point, or underperforming, and because we desperately need surplus value with all the money we have tied up to players who won’t return near the value and how overall thin our farm system is. Trading a package to fill one hole will just cause multiple other ones to pop up elsewhere.

I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.

by Gina on Jun 6, 2010 5:25 PM EDT up reply actions

and

He actually was -24 runs in St. Lucie last year per 150 according to minorleaguesplits. But he has the tools to be good. Adjusted for park and luck this year his OPS is .786. He walks at a rate below 4% this year. And I think next year I will still like Flores and havens more.

I get it. he has great potential ceiling. And Lee will regress some. But he has been good for 3 years, and we’d get a pick to replace Kirk (for which we’d refuse to overslot, haha), which will cost money, same as Cliff will. But if we are contending, I would do it for half a year.

by wobatus on Jun 6, 2010 4:52 PM EDT up reply actions

-24 runs

was for fielding. Those metrics are tough to trust for minor leaguers, I know.

Meddler did a write up on this

look at his home away splits. The difference is at home there was an unnatural increase in balls could flyballs rather than line drives.

I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.

Ah

the Mark former Known as Meddler. I found out about AA from him on Sickel’s minorleagueball.com

by wobatus on Jun 6, 2010 5:08 PM EDT up reply actions

that sentence i wrote was horrible

it was supposed to say way more balls were called line drives, to the point where it was a pretty major anamoly compared to the rest of that league, than flyballs at home, which caused a huge split in his away/home total run numbers.

I wonder if Carl Everett believes Jamie Moyer exists.

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
