Bob Sheppard's accent

Jose Reyes said David Wright knows him better than anyone else on the team. Wright saw Reyes wince while throwing, and called Jerry Manuel out to remove Reyes from the game. According to Reyes, Wright stressed how important it was to the team for Reyes to be fully healthy for the second half. Reyes maintains that he didn’t further injure his strained oblique by playing today or this week, but said that Wright expressed concern that he might.

Beltran spoke today and confirmed that he would be back on Thursday, July 15 when the Mets open the second half in San Francisco. He will start in center field and hit fourth. Angel Pagan will play right field and struggling Jeff Francoeur will be on the bench. Jerry Manuel said Francoeur will platoon with Pagan with Francoeur hitting against left-handed pitchers and Pagan playing against right-handers.
Baby steps.
First, Francoeur is not everyday on the lineup. Then his playing time decreases even more.

Starting Pagan everyday gives us stability, and, more importantly, professional at bats. Someone who can and will walk, take pitches, work a count. Every single pitch thrown by an opposing team matters; everyone single one. If it means tiring out an opposing team’s starter early, or making their relievers work more, it matters.
Check out this lineup…
1 – Reyes (who, admittedly, has to get his walk rate up).
2 – Pagan
3 – Dubs
4 – Beltran
5 – Bay
6 – Davis
7 – Thole/Blanco
8 – Whoever the hell is playing 2nd.
2-5 will make pitchers work. Ike and Reyes have to get on base more, Thole/Blanco gives us a catcher platoon that might get on base at a .350 clip, and if Castillo is 8th, there’s another batter who can make pitchers work.

4 games back; gotta say, I’m pleasantly surprised so far. With Johan looking good of late, with Dickey and Niese pitching extremely well, with Beltran coming back.
