Having watched it again, I’m just going with the video-taker being the only douche-nozzle here. I hope the 50 bucks or so he gets for those pictures on eBay is worth acting like such a douche.

He knows that once he signs those pictures, a billion other things come through too. And he doesn’t want his signature on random things. Signing tables are a machine-like experience for a reason. The dude with the camera just made it less likely that some kid at the end of the line will get to meet Gary Carter.

That guy was fishing for a confrontation, and was going to get one, regardless. Good job, Kid!

The “I’m going to put this on youtube” remark just came out of the holster so quickly that you have to know that this was up his sleeve all along. He videotapes the guy, has the two little kids go up for the autographs and when Carter says no, he’s got it backed up on videotape. That way he can point to it and tell others that Carter is the douche, rather than just admit what he did was douchier. Gary Carter is no saint but he was totally okay here.

I’d call this blackmail or even extortion (granted on a small level). And worst of all, what a terrible example to set for two innocent children.

Maybe its just me but its like the camera dude was so prepared for Carter to say ‘no’ with how fast he said ‘oh yeah well this going on youtube!!!’….

I’m not gonna lie, I’ve never actually been to an autograph signing I can remember, but don’t they have a sign that says ‘no signing of baseballs, pictures, etc’ ? It would make a lot more sense if they did just so people are prepared….
