IT'S THE DAILY NEWS!!!!!
I hope that answered your question.
If there's ever a riot at Citi Field and Oliver Perez was the starter, I started the riot.
also, i know contracts matter and all
but Bay is only making 8 mil this year and he is doing way more than frenchy, yet he got a C+ to frenchys B
I like Ike
bay is making 8.625 mil to frenchy's 5 mil
bay is worth 1.4 WAR (FG) and has a .349 wOBA, and .355 OBP
frenchy is worth 0.1 WAR and has a .300 wOBA, and .302 OBP
I like Ike
Actually the signing bonus is all paid upfront, but for (creative) accounting purposes, it is divided by the duration of the contract.
In lobby campaign for Chris Carter.
so this means what as far as what he is making this year?
or future years?
I like Ike
i dont even know how much the signing bonus was
just go by this, because it is (i thought) reliable

o i see
it was 8 mil signing bonus split up among 4 years, so he is really making 6.5 mil this year and will make 16 the next 3
I like Ike
gross, i didnt realize he had a full no trade
also the link pasted twice so here, if anyone is interested

it wasn't actually split up
he’s making all of it this year. It’s just prorated for accounting.
I want Jerry Manuel fired now, not three years from now. That is my stance.- John Peterson
If you consider min 200PA or 300PA, he is really the worst RF (wOBA and WAR).
That is, he is a true replacement level player.
In lobby campaign for Chris Carter.
Yes he is.
I don’t want him on the team because I know he’ll get 200+ PA through the end of the year and it will kill us.
That's some grading curve
Is that like an Ivy League, graduate school B where you pretty much have to shoot the professor’s dog to get a grade any lower?
I'm pretty sure a B in many graduate programs already means "drop out now"
Not like it’s really consistent, but a lot of grading at the graduate level is essentially pass-fail, where A means “pass” and B sends a strong message that there’s something wrong.
A Francoeur-like level of performance should still probably fail, though.
I got a B once in grad school
I got an A in everything else and defended my dissertation successfully, but that one little B still gnaws at me.
heh
That’s true for virtually everyone I know who got a B, or even an A-, in grad school. I think it selects for people like that. Some people just grade weird, though — at my own institution it was maddeningly ad-hoc, every professor grading on a different scale according to their own personal beliefs/experience.
you guys are scaring me
i was generally an A student in undergrad, especially in my major, but i just dont know i will be able to avoid a B when i have like 4 grad level physics classes
I like Ike
Don't fret it
I think Bs in the real sciences are like actual Bs. It’s generally the humanities where grade inflation is the worst.
you still have me worried that if i get a B teachers will be looking at me like im not doing enough
guess its just motivation to work even harder, time to start studying for the first semester, fuck.
I like Ike
yeah, don't panic
This stuff varies so much that it’s not like any discussion this general is meaningful at all for your specific situation. You just want to eventually get some idea what scale you’re actually being evaluated on, rather than thinking the letters have some kind of universal meaning.
Francoeur is like that guy at the office.
He arrives 2 hours late at work, he miss all the deadlines, can’t read or work a spreadsheet to save his life, his reports are full of grammar fail or generic platitudes, he is a 2-face who spread fake gossip around, he sabotage his minions and disturb others around him.
However, because he kiss the boss a**, has a winning smile and is needed in the inter-department football team, he was promoted instead of you.
In lobby campaign for Chris Carter.

Look at it this way, in case it makes you feel better:
You don’t actually think anyone is going to take him off our hands, do you?
If Bay was a FA at this very moment, would he get 3/35?
I like this.

you are all gonna hate me
but no way should Frenchy be released.
He should NOT be starting. Maybe a game here and there to give a guy a rest, but he should not get playing time over Bay, Pagan or Beltran. No way. No how.
However, having him on the team seems to be helpful. He is a great distraction for the media, and seems to be a good teammate.
I know that it will never be as important as actually being good at baseball. Dont get me wrong here. However, putting 25 guys on a team with a single goal is not easy to do. Having players play to the best of their ability requires a good work environment. We all know this personally. If the office we work in has good co-workers, and is a generally pleasant place to be, we tend to work better.
Again, not saying he deserves to start over pagan, no way no how. I see the stat lines above, and see how he is on the field. He should be the last OF bat off the bench.
But there is something to be said for a positive working environment and being a good teammate.
ok… tell me i am an idiot.
I am a fan of both the mets and knicks... so just kill me now.
Maybe, but counterpoints:
1) He is being paid $5 million. Perhaps some other team values this positive clubhouse presence and would pick up that contract should the Mets put him on waivers.
2) His skills don’t translate to the bench. Perhaps, bizarrely, this is the reason he has always been a starter. But mediocre defenders who can’t walk or hit for average and hit for power only in disparate and unpredictable stretches and then, only against lefties, aren’t very valuable.
3) When he is on a ML roster, the ML manager plays him. The Braves finally had to trade him because Bobby Cox insisted on starting him. The same will probably happen in NY. Already Jerry is promising to start Jeff Francoeur the next three games in San Francisco.

I'm no expert on clubhouse chemistry, but I've heard both sides
But there is something to be said for a positive working environment and being a good teammate.
Yankee fans claim Cano was too friendly with Melky and that’s why Cano has been so much better this year. Can’t I make the same argument that the Mets are enjoying themselves too much and Francoeur is costing them wins that way? Unless they have a team of psychiatrists working on clubhouse chemistry, I think they should make roster decisions based on performance and skill.
the whole argument seems dumb to me
good players, and teams full of good players, win ball games. bad players make it easier for the other team to win
I like Ike
Makes sense.
Francouer’s platoon splits complement Pagan’s, Francouer can crunch a LHer (and actually gets on base against them at a respectable clip), and he’s a decent defender. It’s not relevant that Manuel mishandles him. Manuel mishandles everyone but no on argues that we should trade Reyes or Wright because of that.
Don't release him at this point in the season, no
But after the season, yes.

Absolutely. Thank him for the shaving tips,
and wish him good luck as the starting RFer for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
If it wasn’t for the cringe factor, he’s not a bad fit for the Mets at $1.5m in 2011. I just won’t be able to handle an injury in ST to Beltran or Pagan and watch Francouer get 158 starts.
1.5 million?
