im worried all this craziness
is going to confuse Omar into doing something dumb.
I want Jerry Manuel fired now, not three years from now. That is my stance.- John Peterson
well at least Omar wasn't dumb enough to do this
On a related note, SI’s Jon Heyman tweets that the Jays asked the Mets for outfield prospect Kirk Nieuwenhuis and one other player for Downs and were denied.
Downs is a fine pitcher, but wtf do the Mets need him for?
He’s a free agent at the end of the season. What difference could he possible make this year? I could see it if the Mets had added Oswalt and Kelly Johnson. At that point picking up another arm to bolster the pen for a real stretch drive would make sense, but Downs in isolation, particularly if it means giving up a prospect like KneeWhenFuss (though he’s going to have to boost his walk rate, and improve his strike zone judgment to have a shot at a real career).
Speaking of which, the Mets are going to have some real holes in the OF in the next few years. Beltran is gone after 2011. Pagan will be getting around market value in arbitration in 2012. Jason Bay will have been sent to the glue factory. We need a half dozen prospects like Kirk in the hopes that two of them pan out, though given the Wilpons refusal to sit expensive guys no matter how bad they get, we’ll probably only be able to use one of them.
some dumb its genius...i like it

If Capps can get someone like Ramos, then Feliciano has to get something decent himself, right??
What a terrible, terrible trade for the Twins
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ
The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
That's the first thing I thought when I saw the trade.
If Pedro can bring back an A/B+ prospect anywhere than you have to deal him
eh Capps has the closer title and the saves

sad but true
Hey, wait! I'm having one of those things. You know? A headache with pictures?

Trade K-Rod?

this
I don’t really WANT to sell but Feliciano is one of the best LOOGY’s in the game right now, I would take a good young player or two in exchange for him. If we offer him arb this offseason he pretty much has to accept because teams aren’t going to want to give up some top draft choices for a type A LOOGY.
I like Ike, I hate Jerry
I would agree...
And I love Felicianos in general (Pedro and Jesus), but unless Pedro will be better deployed from here on in I think it might be worth a trade. It’s like someone who owns an Italian sports car and refuses to stop driving it on logging roads in the mountains. It may be worth more than a pickup truck, but will likely be worth less due to misuse. Of course you could just stop misusing it, but what’s the chance of that?

Weird trades this whole month
Either big overpays or underpays as far as the prospects half of these deals.
Wow,
this is a terrible move by the Twins.

So they wouldn't deal Ramos for Lee
but they’d deal him for Matt freakin’ Capps?
Yeah, I’m just as shocked as everyone else.

They offered Ramos and Hicks for Lee
(their #1 and #2 prospects) the Mariners preferred Smoak+ apparently.
Save Jenrry Mejia!
Yeah
The Rangers package for Lee was probably better, but it’s still weird that Ramos can go from being the centerpiece for a Cliff Lee trade to being dealt for a decent (not great) reliever.

Why is Denis Leary more popular than Bill Hicks?
Because there’s no cure for cancer.
Save Jenrry Mejia!
Um, what?
I understand that Ramos is stuck behind Mauer, but this is ridiculous.
Capps is having a nice year, but he is not a top-shelf closer by any means and above average defensive catchers with pop are not easy to come by.
Someone better lock Omar in his office and take the phone. I don’t want him dealing for a pitcher in this market.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
You mean the market
that saw both Haran and Oswalt go for a middle of the rotation arms plus some (borderline) B-/C+ prospects?
Save Jenrry Mejia!
the market is really kind of terrifying right now
seems like a total cluster*uck of one team gouging another.

Yeah
I don’t know what the hell is going on. The haul that the Nats got for Capps will probably turn out better than what the DBacks got for Haren.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.
which is kind of hilarious

hahaha, Nats got more for a relief pitcher than the Astros or DBacks got for their aces.
John Olerud, Hall of Famer. Got a nice ring to it.
Weird trading season.
Especially since it’s the Twins getting snookered like this.
May you be locked in a battle of wits against Jerry Manuel.

Cash
It amazes me that $10 million is the difference here. The Twins will pay Capps about $10-$12 million less than Oswalt will get from the Phils, and this is a much, much more substantial package than the crap that the Phillies dealt.
Crap
Capps losing his closer role is going to screw up my fantasy team.
He'll close in Minnesota
Rauch will be the set-up man.

And he'll get a lot more save opportunities, too.

Yep
I find it pretty weird that Capps got more value than Oswalt or Haren. I mean What the heck? relievers like him can be found dime a dozen….!
I guess Nats don’t like Derrik Norris much (their own top catching prospect) to trade for Ramos….
and I am glad Omar saw the idiocy in trading a good prospect for a LOOGY.
"Fantasy, reality, science Fiction. Which is which? Who can tell?"
who is the LOOGY?

o I guess you mean Feliciano
was thinking you were referring to Capps as a LOOGY

Remember that time
when the Mets traded Armando Benitez to the Yankees for Anderson Garcia, Jason Anderson, and Ryan Bicandoa five days after the Rangers got Adrian Gonzalez and two other guys for Ugueth Urbina?
Why do I have a feeling, even if the Mets are smart enough to trade Feliciano, something similar will happen this time around. God that sequence of trades pissed me off – Benitez was better than Urbina, and they could have gotten Adrian freaking Gonzalez for him. I hate being a Mets fan.
2009 Did Not Happen
If Capps gets you Wilson Ramos then what would Feliciano get?

Capps has a 0.7 WAR this year
Francisco Rodriguez has a 1.2 WAR this year, can we get Joe Mauer?
Gas prices today are a lot like a pitcher's ERA. Anything under 3 is amazing, under 4 is pretty good and anything 5 and up is something you want to avoid.
we'd probably have to pay K-rod and Joe Mauer's salary
just to get them to take K-rod for nothing.
