Sure, Bob Costas might not be on hand, but don't think I forgot, Jeff! I've been sitting on this graphic for a while, just waiting for you to pop #100. HOF bound, for sure.

Poor Bernanrd Gilkey
immortalized in the ice-cream man hat.
Please help me forget

I had no idea Lance Johnson drove a “Good Humor” truck.
i had that hat
i wore it all summer i worked at the town pool. i wasnt a lifegaurd tho so i wasnt able to score with any of the hot chicks that worked the snack stand. all i did was check ID badges and clean up the occasional pile of puke. also i got paid less than minimum wage because it was seasonal government employment.
man, that job kind of sucked.
HELLO HELLO MR WILPON... BUY THAT MANSION. WE DONT NEED A CONDO.
I wore it until a band of yellowish perspiration residue formed
and you want to get more than five minutes of wear out of a new hat. CHEAP CRAP!
Excellent.
A fitting pre-emptive tribute to a baseball legend; a Natural, if you will.

Pierzynski's name is woefully misspelled
but somehow I think it makes the graphic better.

For some historical perspective
Rafael Palmeiro didn’t hit #100 until he was 28 years old. He ended with 569 homers. Francoeur is only 26. I sometimes forget that and have to remind myself.
by James Kannengieser on Aug 11, 2010 10:57 AM EDT reply actions 3 recs
Rafael Palmeiro also did steroids to extend his career
Not defending Frenchy by any means, its just that Palmeiro was a much better baseball player than Frenchy.

So by extension...
Get Frenchy some ’roids stat!
blurgh! - me
Would that help? I don't think so.

I hope the Mets finally right their past transgressions and let Frenchy get number 100 in NY.
I still can’t forgive them for giving up on Rey Ordonez before he reached his 10th career home run. Can you believe they only gave him 7 years?
Do it for Rey Rey, Frenchy.

odd fact
I saw Ordonez’s first 4 career homeruns – in 1996, 1997, 1998, & 1999. I didn’t have season tickets or anything, just happened to be there for each of them. Random.
2009 Did Not Happen
Uuh, correct me if I'm wrong but
The Mets won 2 games on their latest road trip, and home runs off the bat of Francoeur won both of them. Kind of a strange time to be bashing Francoeur and his, um, home runs.
he has the 8th worst OBP of any player with >350 PAs
That means he’s among the league leaders in outs.
Outs are bad, m’kay…
actually I'm actively rooting for the Mets to lose
so it seems like the perfect time to bash Francoeur to me
Is it that time of the season already?
Seems like the time to root against our own team gets earlier and earlier each year.
by ScottfromPeekskill on Aug 11, 2010 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions
well then why didn't he hit homeruns in all of our games
so that we could have gone 6-0? Huh? Why? Frenchy clearly wants the Mets to lose
2009 Did Not Happen
oh goodness
I forgot Toby Borland was a Met….
yeah but Frenchy doesn’t do anything else, it’s all or nothing—HR or strikeout. I guess that fits quite well into the current Mets hitting philosophy…but in any case, Frenchy should be canned.

Amazing response in the comments section, though:
“Francoeur’s VORP is 4.1, or, 780th of 852 people to swing a bat in MLB this year. He is less valuable than a replacement player. If the Mets are interested in making the playoffs, benching Francoeur and replacing him with a freely available waiver player would be an improvement. It is beyond serious discussion that Francoeur is a terrible hitter, one of MLB’s worst, and it is a reflection of the Mets’ irrationality that he gets any ABs. many of which feature better prose, too?”
More broadly, the writer here, Mike Sielski, demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of rudimentary concepts of statistical analysis and player evaluation, and the WSJ’s editorial staff does likewise. Newspaper publishers who wonder why their industry is dying need look no further than articles like this. Why would I seek sports news, for a premium price, from a paper that displays ignorance of simple concepts understood and employed by dozens of free quantitative analysis Web sites -

Does the computer automatically strike
disproportionately emotional responses? Let’s just say that he’s not going to win any converts putting the argument that way.
Yay!
Single dashes. So, minus signs are bad, which makes -4.1 hard to use. But you can use it as long as you don’t use another dash.
I've seen it happen
Is it 5 number -
