I think Wright is going to have a huge game tonight

He’s 6 for 9 career off of Francis, with 3 HRs and 2 BBs

Jerry doesn't care about giving the right guys playing time

He just wants the most wins he can get, in a fruitless attempt to save his job

Hey if Ollie goes

There’s always that chance he throws the Mets first No-Hitter … while walking 12 batters.

So the big question...

Is tonight the night that Jeff Francoeur hits his milestone 100th home run? I know…we are all so excited.

I'm all for interviews

But banal stuff like that is more suited for pre-game or post-game shows, when I’m not watching. “Do you think you established your fastball tonight?” Sorry, not interested, doesn’t add anything. In-game interviews better add something to the experience. That Bob Feller interview in Cleveland is the only thing that really comes to mind, when he was making absurd claims like he could throw 108 mph and also invented the question mark.

I didn't have to.

everyone else around me was talking about “Traid the Core ™”

I can tell you…..those were some awesome seats, and I was surrounded by people who either can afford them on their own, or work for some bad-ass companies. Anyway, I was surprised to hear this talk down here. I heard the banging coming from the dugout, and later I found out that was David Wrong smashing his bat after the 3rd ? K.

Up close, David looks like he has OD’d on sleeping pills or something. He looks dead tired. Fuck this day off shit…..he needs a week on the bench to rest up and get his head straight. Also, Beltran’s bat looks slow as all hell, and even Reyes looks like he’d rather be elsewhere.

Sitting that close to the players, you see a lot of expressions you don’t see on TV and it doesn’t look like a pretty picture.

I have a big gripe with calling hits that didn’t directly win the game “game-winning hits”. I see it used when a player hits a go-ahead HR in the 8th inning or something. It bothers me.

and Pagan has been another bright spot.

8 things I love about Pagan.

  1. He’s never looking to get back into the groove. He is by far the most consistently consistent hitter on the Mets.
  2. He hits in big situations. In 82 ABs with runners in scoring position, he has an OPS over 1.000.
  3. He walks and bunts better than Castillo, and steals as well as Reyes. He hits doubles, triples, and even a few homeruns.
  4. He covers the outfield better than most.
  5. Despite the silly meme last year, he isn’t prone to mental mistakes.
  6. He is patient at the plate.
  7. He has the most precise, rigid batting stance ever. Must be very intimidating to pitchers.
  8. Nobody feels the need to apologize for his performance and say he’s a great clubhouse presence.

What makes you say we're 83 wins terrible??

You’ve said it yourself many times that this offense is one of the worst in baseball.

Yeah, the starting pitching is OK, but the bullpen isn’t great either.

I’m not sure how that equates to 83 wins.

Maybe 79, 80. but that’s tops.

http://www.doublebobbyjones.com/ -Double Bobby Jones: a Mets blog

by metsguy234 on Aug 11, 2010 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions

because the pitching is above average

the bullpen is around average and the base running is one of the best in the league. That translates to about a 1 game above .500 team.

mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon

by Gina on Aug 11, 2010 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Plus the fact

we WAY WAY WAY outperformed our offensive numbers and gave ourselves a massive cushion, a team that overperforms as much as we did shouldn’t have a record this bad.

mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon

by Gina on Aug 11, 2010 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, we overperformed

The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?

by Syler on Aug 11, 2010 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

the massive regression was in large part due to games like this

where we were in the position to win and jerry fucked up. Regression has nothing to do with moronic management.

mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon

by Gina on Aug 11, 2010 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Right, but it does have something to do with talent

and this team doesn’t have close to enough offensive talent to win consistently.

I mean, people are going to cite the games KRod wasn’t brought in for extra innings, but let’s not forget we went 8 scoreless off of the Arizona pen, and went 7 innings without a hit in LA.

that the Glazers have basically mortgaged the club and the stadium so they can take up to $200m in cash out of the business each year. The protests aren’t great though. Some fans went off and set up a new club (FC United of Manchester), but most of the disaffected are continuing to support the team but many are wearing the green and gold colours of the original club, Newton Heath LYR which became MUFC later (to demonstrate that they aren’t buying merchandise).

I go pretty sparingly (movies are horrendously expensive at this point)

but it’s getting hard to find people to go to the movies with me because none of my friends like movies with subtlety, artistic merit, or non-generic plotlines so they get mad when I make them go see decent movies.

I used to go insanely sparingly

like, once a year sparingly. Very random spike over the past week. Besides Inception I also went to Dinner for Schmucks which your post would lead me to believe is not on your must-see list (although it wasn’t terrible).

So the Mets trade Melvin Mora to the Os for Mike Bordick at the 2000 trade deadline

The next year Bordick signs back with the Orioles. Ten years later Mora hits a grand slam against us to win a game. Welcome to Metsville. Population us.

Obviously the only solution

is to trade a solid infield prospect (let’s say Ruben Tejada) for a mediocre aging infielder, let’s say Melvin Mora.

I have to deal with so many people that absolutely adore them, Mayday Parade, and similar bands, it’s ridiculous.

I have a friend who I was showing songs to. I showed her “Cut Your Hair” by Pavement, and she thought it was terrible. She showed me “Stella” by All Time Low. She apparently thinks that that’s good music. I nearly cried.
