We need to get to this Sanchez fellow early.
Pitching coach Dan Warthen said, "He literally has a rubber arm," before he agreed figuratively was the appropriate adverb.
The bad news is
Kevin did the opening
The good news is
it looks like they’re not letting him inside the stadium tonight
+1
I yelled “No!” out loud when I heard his voice in the intro. But I exhaled when he assured me that Gary would be doing the play-by-play.

I'm telling you....
They are prepping Gary for GM and Kevin for the booth.

Gary can't be any worse than Omar...
Pitching coach Dan Warthen said, "He literally has a rubber arm," before he agreed figuratively was the appropriate adverb.
Interesting....
Nolasco is not out for the season. He’s pitching Saturday.
Has anyone seen the stadium this empty in the last few years?
It looks like the Marlins stadium. Or was there a derailment on the 7 train?
It was like this in April and towards the end of last year

The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
"Fine" Marlins announcer?
Surely he can’t be talking about one of the guys who screams with delight whenever the Marlins do something positive?
Pitching coach Dan Warthen said, "He literally has a rubber arm," before he agreed figuratively was the appropriate adverb.
Please stop.
There’s a good chance I’ll have to hear that tonight.

Ugh.
Pitching coach Dan Warthen said, "He literally has a rubber arm," before he agreed figuratively was the appropriate adverb.
I still haven't gotten the replay of that Phillies game
out of my head. When they got robbed on a foul call, and they were literally yelling about how badly the ump screwed it up.
Pitching coach Dan Warthen said, "He literally has a rubber arm," before he agreed figuratively was the appropriate adverb.
OH MY GOD, THAT'S TERRIBLE

YOU MESSED IT UP
YOU HAVE BROKEN MY HEART, SIR
Pitching coach Dan Warthen said, "He literally has a rubber arm," before he agreed figuratively was the appropriate adverb.
That's fairly usual....
That night was exagerrated but these guys bitch about balls and strikes all the time. ALL the time. The first game of the series they mentioned that the pitchers seemed to have different strike zones about 15 times.

We tried to guess the score and a couple of over/under questions.
For each month, whoever got the most points, would get a Mets related merchandise.
I won a DVD set.
I wanted to win that so bad
I ended up having to spend an exorbitant sum for the ’86 DVD set.
Pitching coach Dan Warthen said, "He literally has a rubber arm," before he agreed figuratively was the appropriate adverb.
I have the VHS
I probably ought to transfer that over to DVD one of these days, given that I do not own a VCR (my folks have a dual VHS/DVD)

Sanchez looks terrible
but I never understood why they did not hit this guy—-or how he ever pitched a no-no
straight, average fastball- okay breaking ball.
it’s true though, some guys just get by with it.
yeah but a 3.20 FIP and sub 3.20 ERA is more than getting by.
even according to fangraphs pitch value none of his 4 pitches are all that dominant

well if he gets to .390
then there’s hope he’ll be an elite player next year. If not we’re screwed anyway so we might as well contract
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
This just looks at streaky as being indicative of something...
I don’t think a late season run is any more indicative of next year’s performance than if he were to be benched right now.
by MookieTheCat on Aug 26, 2010 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't see how it looks less indicative
even if he’s streaky if he’s streaky to the point of being an elite player it still counts whether it comes in waves or all at once. If he sucks then he’ll just consistently suck. I mean at least if he goes on a tear every other month we’ll know next year we’ll have a tear to look forward too. If he just sucks the rest of the year, we’ll have suckage to look forward too all next year.

does he need that large a lead

Why is Castillo taking a lead at all?
He gonna run?
that looked good because
one thing Reyes does not do is “handle” the bat. He is an all or nothing leadoff guy

Just asked why, with Pagan’s year last year, did the Mets start with GMJ?
Jose looked a little gimpy after trying to stretch a run to 1st last night...

this is the problem with ruben, he’s decently fast, but no where near fast enough to routinely get infield hits…which is a problem when you can’t get the ball out of the infield.

its worse in baseball IMO
just because 1. most of their mistakes could be easily fixed and 2. the umps are a lot more obnoxious about it.

Is it weird that I feel like the Marlins have a better shot at winning this game now
Even though we’re up by 2?
It's called momentum
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ
The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
No
How many countless times have I heard an announcer say in the fourth quarter of a football game that that great interception has shifted the momentum, only for the offense to go 3 and out.
Here's an example...
In the 2007 NFC divisional playoffs, the Cowboys went on a massive 10 minute drive near the end of the 1st half, scored a TD, and took a 14-7 lead. The Giants followed that by tying the game in 53 seconds.
The game was tied at the end of the half, but undoubtedly the Giants had more momentum going into the 2nd half.
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ
The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
That doesn't prove anything
If they had so much momentum, why did they only score 7 points in the second half? The game came down the final seconds anyway, it’s not like they went on a tear in the second half.
I guess it's not so much of actual performance as much as boosted confidence
And while the Giants offense didn’t go on a tear, the Cowboys offense, which was dominant in the half, went completely stagnant in the 2nd half, like they had the air let out of them.
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ
The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
oh yeah thats stupid
but there are times when a defense can be dominating all game and all of a sudden the offense they’re facing puts a few good plays together scores fast and they’re reeling the next few series. i.e The pats-colts game last year. Or times when picks actually can completely change the face of the game, i.e the tracey porter pick in the superbowl when before the colts offense had been matching the saints point for point, and actually had been WAY more efficient. after that tey never got their rhythm back.
And it’s definitely in basketball when a teams getting a lot of fast break points and not allowing the other team to get their defense set.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
how is it an indication of better coaching
and wouldn’t better playing be momentum?
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
also I don't think it's a product of better playing by the team
who “gains the momentum” more a product of a collapse by the other side
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
no i feel the same way
it’s a question of when not if. Hopefully they won’t wait till the 9th that always sucks.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
Gary just said the Marlins are playing for next year
and the Mets are still in the wild card race
and yet the Marlins are ahead of the Mets
this does not compute
It would be possible
but the Marlins’ grission rate is several percentage points higher. So you’re right, it doesn’t make sense.

nah he thinks Uggla is too big for 2nd base
he probably thinks he’s a DH. Remember only all glove players can play 2nd.

remember how we didn't want Dunn or Burrel
because they were unathletic mashers? Omar probably puts Uggla in the same category.

There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ
The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
Green actually put up some decent stolen base totals in his prime
Omar just probably doesn’t understand the effects of aging. Remember we signed Bay because he used to play CF. Omar probably assumes if a guy was a good fielder/somewhat fast 10 years ago he still is, see: GMjr, Luis Castillo etc. Moises Alou though, theres no explanation.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
You know
I was thinking the same thing a few days ago. What do you think it would take. The Marlins have been dying to get rid of him. I would imagine it would require Mejia and Tejada/Havens.
by Coolpapabell on Aug 26, 2010 8:44 PM EDT up reply actions
um I don't think it would come anywhere close to requiring Meija
he’s a solid second basemen but not that good. And he’s only got one extremely expensive year of controllability left.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
I see your point, but I feel the Marlins would want to play hardball with a division rival
Who would they ask for then? Capt’n Kirk and Havens/Tejada? I have a feeling they would also ask for Flores.

Ron darling unintentional quote of the night
“Niese has been trying to get in on morrison all night”
And... It's outta here!!!
this team is essentially a pack of overrated, scarred losers.
If they were to play well enough tthe rest of the way to keep Jerry and Omar here, it would be a catastrophe. We root for a win, but we are on the horns of a dilemma. Because any success would be just an aberration from the norm, and we do not want to go into 2011 unchanged on the strength of an aberration, some random force.
We're not going to go on a run as long as Francoeur and Tejada play everyday
We’ll finish with at best 81 wins

More reason to hate the Wilpons?
An article in the Star Ledger today mentioned that the Mets since 2000 have outspent the Marlins by $800 million and have 4 more wins and 1 less championship to show for it
I saw that
it brought a little tear to the corner of my eye
Damn
They could have given me that $800M and not be that much worse off. Meanwhile I would be much, much better off.

the Marlins are the team that is being dishonest with its fans.
THIS
how can we hate on the marlins spending when they’re putting out the same product we are
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
I never understood it anyway.
They haven’t been really bad in a while. Their problem is that Miami doesn’t care about baseball. I think this new stadium is going to turn out to be a disaster. They’re not going to have years of sellouts. They may have 1 or 2 years of good attendance before it settles at about 20,000/game. That’s my prediction.
Ok, time to pull Niese

Remember the end of "Patton"

as that NY times story showed
the marlins are a living indictment of the mets management. the quickest way for the Wilpons to field a winner would be for them to buy the marlins.

all consuming incompetence
let's see what
meaningless positives we can garner from Igarashi’s meaningless appearance…..ah, fuck it!
So..........
I decided to put up a poll for y’all regarding Reyes, in case anyone cares to participate.
Hey !. Don't talk to my mami like that.
Loria actively tries to trash his team
yet "the Mets have spent about $816 million more than the Marlins to win five more games and one fewer title."
So assuming the Wilpons are trying, this means that the mets would be better if sold to Loria.
