The Duda abides! Lucas Duda makes his major league debut tonight, starting in left field. Get excited. New month, newish players and the Braves have gone 122-87 (.584 win %) since trading Jeff Francoeur. Maybe the Mets will be similarly energized. Here's some Morricone to get you pumped up:

I like the Perricone....

The Mets lineup tonight could be Good, Bad, Ugly, Good, Bad, Ugly, Good Bad, Ugly, just reorganized a bit.

Trading Wright and Reyes (disclaimer: God forbid)

If the Mets decide to commit blasphemy and trade one of them I would hope they keep Reyes. Just to be clear I really hope that both retire as Mets.

by TDJ on Sep 1, 2010 7:16 PM EDT reply actions

I'd prefer they keep Wright still

if they had to trade one. I’m not against a trade per se, if the price is right. But the offer better be pretty damn irresistable. (I’d also like to see them both as Mets for life)

Hey, wait! I'm having one of those things. You know? A headache with pictures?

by KeithsMoustache on Sep 1, 2010 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

we have a pretty good expectation

that David will play 155 games each year

by jdon on Sep 1, 2010 7:20 PM EDT up reply actions

yea thats why I love the guy

he’s got a bit of adjusting to do with is swing, but we’ll have a competent hitting coach soon (or at least one other than hojo) so I see him bouncing back as far as his K/BB rates go. Don’t get me wrong I love reyes, but if we had to lose one, I think he’d be the guy to move.

Hey, wait! I'm having one of those things. You know? A headache with pictures?

by KeithsMoustache on Sep 1, 2010 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions

he just has to stick with what worked. drop the hands dow, shorten the swing

and focus on driving good fatballs to center and right center. He is not real wuick in there. Problem is, even the smallest slump, like everyone has, and he is fooling around.

by jdon on Sep 1, 2010 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah

the solution is simple, getting him to do it naturally is hard

Hey, wait! I'm having one of those things. You know? A headache with pictures?

by KeithsMoustache on Sep 1, 2010 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

It's in David's head Lack of confidence is the worst thing an athlete

can go through and I hope David can overcome it.The Mets collapsing around him the last few years certainly does not help.

by Putnan Prince on Sep 1, 2010 10:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I dislike agitated posters so I do not call for trading anyone

but if a certain someone were to be traded I would not be upset. And, Beltran’s career in the NL is finished.

by Shivling on Sep 1, 2010 7:19 PM EDT up reply actions

I completely agree unfortunately

I will miss his awesome swing and (former) outfield play but the Mets should look at what they could get for him.

by TDJ on Sep 1, 2010 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions

sadly probably not much

he hasn’t helped his stock much. We’re probably better off holding onto him since we’d have to eat a lot of salary most likely if we moved him.

i am amazed that we got the guy DFAed for Cora for Frenchy

Almonte played semi-pro baseball in the summer of 2009. As of 2010, Almonte had returned to the Bronx, where he was serving as a volunteer assistant coach for his high school alma mater’s baseball team.9 At that time, he was reportedly no longer with his wife, though he would not discuss details of the relationship. Almonte indicated an intent to return to semi-pro baseball that summer, after the end of the school year, but said that he no longer held expectations of some day playing in the Major Leagues.8

really thou screw them they got really lucky in 86 say Buckner plays good D and Calvin Sheradi

doesn’t throw that wild pitch what do you have. A bunch of underachievers. They failed in 1987 and 1988 they overlooked the dodgers. Imagine if they dodn’t win in 86 this franchise would be a laughing stock. Not that its not now but for the past 4 decades

by TheKid08 on Sep 1, 2010 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions

30, Sorry I love this team and bleed orange and blue sometimes I get frustrated

My man was Gary Carter love the 86 team. But I don’t like how these guys Keith and Ron putting down these teams in the past. Even thou they are right. But they act like they are all high and mighty. When they had the same flaws. Just think about it if the mets did’nt win in 86. What an Epic collapse of talent that should of been a dynasty.

by TheKid08 on Sep 1, 2010 9:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, but the difference between good teams and great teams...

Is that for great teams the 5th wide receiver catches a 4th down pass, that was thrown off-balance with defensive linemen surrounding the quarterback, against his helmet. Those great moments of luck are usually predicated by a hell of a lot of talent in the first place.

by MookieTheCat on Sep 1, 2010 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions

you gotta admitt they underacheived by not winning another WS especially in 1988

Just imagine thou if the stars were not allianed in game 6. We would be a total franchise failure.

Take a look at this....

http://www.flipflopflyin.com/flipflopflyball/info-86mets.html

It shows the composition of the 88 team compared to 86. Notice the deletions of Knight, Mitchell, Orosco, McDowell etc. Those were big losses.

by MookieTheCat on Sep 1, 2010 9:24 PM EDT up reply actions

yes they were huge but why did they rush to move mitchell and Knight

The stupid thing about this trade discussion is it wasn't even really a trade

Omar said “You want him you can have him. Just send me anybody so I can say I got something in return”

only Omar

would take back the guy they cleared for Cora-he probably did not even know

jerry did not want to play him out there because

he has not played in 6 weeks. of course he is out there. Jerry said it; ergo, he did not mean it.

by jdon on Sep 1, 2010 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Jerry realized after he said it

that if he didn’t play tonight he would not have played in 6 weeks and 1 day which is actually longer than 6 weeks and therefore even worse

yes

1st game 9-3
2nd game 9-2
tonight I’m thinking 9-1

Good.

Hurricanes are frightening. Being surrounded by folks who have been through them = scary.

You know they recommend a gallon of water per person per day? So if things might be messed up for 3 days and you have 3 people in your house, that’s 9 gallons.

I was in Kill Devil Hills in NC last week

And the news stations were all broadcasting on location from there today, about the hurricane. Perfect timing, weather was awesom last week.

by Brian. on Sep 1, 2010 9:37 PM EDT up reply actions

That's fucking criminal.

Your first major league game and with your team down 4 to 1 you get yanked from LF in favor of a utility infielder.

This is Manuel’s way of letting Minaya know that Duda doesn’t have a chance in hell of establishing himself as long as Manuel is the manager. That stupid, fucking ratbastard.

by Jack Str on Sep 1, 2010 9:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Tell me about it.

Arias has never played a game in the OF in the majors.

by Jack Str on Sep 1, 2010 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

...and has never played a game in the OF in the minors, either.

Duda’s got to be feeling like shite right about now. Imagine having your ML debut spoiled with shit like this, by being replaced with a UI who has never played a single game at your position.

What a scumbag.

2013 ALL-STAR GAME(TM) LOGO CONTEST

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
