If you put faith into these new sexypants defensive metrics, Ike Davis has been the best defensive 1B in the National League this season (topped only by Oakland's Daric Barton):
I know the dangers of looking at single-season defensive metrics, but hey... it's something! Ike has shown pretty good power and okayish contact skills as a rookie. All he needs is some work on his eye (read: K/BB rate) and the Mets could have a nice, inexpensive, well-rounded piece moving forward. Davis and Thole have been the bright spots for this organization and certainly the best reasons to watch the Mets play out the string.
