The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?

by Syler on Sep 2, 2010 6:36 PM EDT reply actions

This team is not fun to watch

WHat really makes me angry, is the fact that, I can’t sit down and enjoy watching a METS game. They suck so bad, and, are so lifeless, that, they have taken all the fun out of the game. I know that they are barely a 500 team, so, they will mostly lose, so, what’s the point in watching a game that you know the outcome of? I really miss those days in 2006, when, it was fun to watch this team. They could fight back from anything, and, win, any game. Now, they are lucky to get 2 or 3 hits in a game. I want my team back, I want a team that I can cheer for, I want a team that will NOT roll over and die, I want a team that can win every night, I want a team that plays above 500, is that asking to much? I wait all winter for baseball to start, and, this is the garbage that the METS give us. 2011, time to make some changes.

by PiazzaHOF on Sep 2, 2010 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions

the beauty of baseball

is even the worst team with the worst record can do something amazing in any given game. I’ll keep watching.

Hey, wait! I'm having one of those things. You know? A headache with pictures?

by KeithsMoustache on Sep 2, 2010 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

What's the point?

If the team comes back and wins one game in the ninth, when they are down by 3 runs, and, still finishes the season in fourth place? Those big wins and amazin games only count if they build on them, and, make the post season, or, make the season close. What does a comeback rally really mean, if, you lose the game? nothing at all. I want to see this team win, I want to see them beat the Phillies and take the WS from the Yankees, I am not asking for much :}

by PiazzaHOF on Sep 2, 2010 10:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Here's the thing about the Mets

They have been bad more than they have been good throughout the course of their history. If your a Mets fan and you can’t handle losing, you might want to try the other NY team.

by lstorie1971 on Sep 2, 2010 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Mets Forever

Hey, Im just saying that, as I watch this game, we are ahead 4-1 in the 8th, and, Im waiting for the hammer to fall, as, it always seems to do. I want to feel that we can hold a game, and, come back and win a game, is that asking to much? YANKEE fans are NOT baseball fans at all, when your team makes the playoffs 13 years in a row, and, wins the WS every 5 years, what is the risk of being a fan? Its just a matter of time before they win, again. All I want is have faith again.

by PiazzaHOF on Sep 2, 2010 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Eh....Appreciate your enthusiasm...

And yeah we’re all frustrated, but there are plenty of true Yankee fans. They just tend to get drowned out by the “I just moved to NYC and OMG daddy rented me an apartment!” crowd.

The Mets are a rich team they just haven't had a good GM in like forever.

Agree, being a Met fan Why is it always FB season in August?

I just want meaningful games in september that’s all. I don’t even care if they cough it up on the final day of the year just get me thru a season with meaningful games.

Arias has gotten about 200 PA in the majors to suck

Francouer got over 1000 to do so.

Arias also plays a position where we don’t have supremely better options at the moment. Francoeur did.

There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ

The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?

by Syler on Sep 2, 2010 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions

? I'm not sure how the last part has anything to do with whether Arias is worse

an awful player is awful regardless of context. And Arias actually has well over 1000 minor league PA’s where he was awful as well. And if you can’t hit in AAA it’s unlikely you won’t be God awful at the ML level either.

mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon

by Gina on Sep 2, 2010 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions

really if Arias is still in the organization at the end of the year,

and not sitting on the bench in buffalo, we’ll have actually gotten the worse end of the deal.

mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon

by Gina on Sep 2, 2010 7:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Especially

since we are paying the difference between him and Francouer.

by Joshuah on Sep 2, 2010 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

You're assuming we wouldn't just sign someone else who sucked

We have no better options at 2B right now. Castillo is a gimp who can’t hit the ball out of the IF, and Tejada has an OPS under .500.

Getting rid of Francoeur for a guy who is only making $500,000 is a certain win in my book.

There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ

The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?

by Syler on Sep 2, 2010 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

like Josh said

we paid the difference in salary so the fact he’s only making 500,000 is irrelevant, since Frenchy will likely be nontendered.

Castillo actually is a better option, and it’s really not even close. Arias is as bad in the field and actually decidedly worse in the field. And like Josh said below it’s unlikely Turner or even Luis Hernandez would be worse options.

mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon

by Gina on Sep 2, 2010 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions

I suppose I could understand Turner

but Hernandez is no better than Arias, and Castillo is atrocious offensively (78 OPS+), and I’m not at all convinced he’s a plus fielder, which Fangraphs says he is.

There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ

The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?

by Syler on Sep 2, 2010 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

It doesn't matter if you don't think Castillo is a + fielder

because Arias is a negative fielder as well. And even if you use a measure as outdated as OPS/OPS+, Arias is still worse (70 OPS+). There’’s literally no argument Arias has over anyone.

I can't believe I'm defending Jerry, but

your options at 2B are:

2) A 34 year old who is broken down

who’s home away splits were awful…how’s that worked out?

Everyone who plays in quirky stadiums have massive splits, whether the stadium inflates or deflates offense. It’s because of the number of adjustments they have to make to play 82 home games in a stadium so radically different from the average stadium.

Let's recap:

Sacrifices with no outs when the pitcher has just walked two guys one nine balls
Lets the .230 RH catcher bat against a righty when there is .298 batting lefty catchy on the bench
When the aforementioned RH catcher fails to drive in a run, then he brings in the aforementioned LH catcher, only to remove him when Atlanta sneakily brings in a LH pitcher
Replaces .298 batting catcher with a .147 batting righty who gets called out on strikes.

That has to be some sort of record for stupidity

All those moves

and they still only score one run. Jerry is a genius

by aparkermarshall on Sep 2, 2010 9:28 PM EDT reply actions

CRAZY SCHEDULE

How the hell did the Mets approve a schedule where they have to play a day game in Chicago after a night game in Atlanta? They won’t get into Chi-town until 2AM & they play at 1PM!
By the way, that will be Jerry’s lame excuse for not pinch-hitting Thole for Blanco. He doesn’t want Josh to catch tonight with a day game tomorrow. But Jerry has NO excuse for pinch-hitting Hesseman for Thole!

Did WRONGZ have the GWRBI?

If not, he’s un-clutch and should be triaded.

At 5:30 PM EDT today Starting today at 5:00 PM EDT, witness one of the greatest renderings of visual sound effects ever!

UPDATE 1: My browser has crashed several times in the process from all the rants (FUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!) - as a result, there will instead be 4 or 5 separate installments of fxcarden's Nightly Rants! from 2011, with a similar pattern for the 2012 rants. Take my word for it, when I say that it's for the best. Here's the revised schedule:

Volume 1: 2011
No. 1: Today at 5:00 PM EDT
No. 2: Tomorrow
No. 3: Thursday
No. 4 and No. 5 (?) TBD

UPDATE 2: Vol. I, No. 1 (July, 2011) is now up!

2013 ALL-STAR GAME(TM) LOGO CONTEST

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
Jon Rauch is awesome. Dan Tanna is, obviously, a fan of Greg Pomes.
