Oh joy, a groundball machine against a horribly impatient lineup
This should go well

The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
This team is not fun to watch
WHat really makes me angry, is the fact that, I can’t sit down and enjoy watching a METS game. They suck so bad, and, are so lifeless, that, they have taken all the fun out of the game. I know that they are barely a 500 team, so, they will mostly lose, so, what’s the point in watching a game that you know the outcome of? I really miss those days in 2006, when, it was fun to watch this team. They could fight back from anything, and, win, any game. Now, they are lucky to get 2 or 3 hits in a game. I want my team back, I want a team that I can cheer for, I want a team that will NOT roll over and die, I want a team that can win every night, I want a team that plays above 500, is that asking to much? I wait all winter for baseball to start, and, this is the garbage that the METS give us. 2011, time to make some changes.
the beauty of baseball
is even the worst team with the worst record can do something amazing in any given game. I’ll keep watching.
Hey, wait! I'm having one of those things. You know? A headache with pictures?
by KeithsMoustache on Sep 2, 2010 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions
What's the point?
If the team comes back and wins one game in the ninth, when they are down by 3 runs, and, still finishes the season in fourth place? Those big wins and amazin games only count if they build on them, and, make the post season, or, make the season close. What does a comeback rally really mean, if, you lose the game? nothing at all. I want to see this team win, I want to see them beat the Phillies and take the WS from the Yankees, I am not asking for much :}
Here's the thing about the Mets
They have been bad more than they have been good throughout the course of their history. If your a Mets fan and you can’t handle losing, you might want to try the other NY team.
Mets Forever
Hey, Im just saying that, as I watch this game, we are ahead 4-1 in the 8th, and, Im waiting for the hammer to fall, as, it always seems to do. I want to feel that we can hold a game, and, come back and win a game, is that asking to much? YANKEE fans are NOT baseball fans at all, when your team makes the playoffs 13 years in a row, and, wins the WS every 5 years, what is the risk of being a fan? Its just a matter of time before they win, again. All I want is have faith again.
Eh....Appreciate your enthusiasm...
And yeah we’re all frustrated, but there are plenty of true Yankee fans. They just tend to get drowned out by the “I just moved to NYC and OMG daddy rented me an apartment!” crowd.
Yes
and to prove how NY they are, they buy their Yankees caps

And their Mens size SM Jeter shirts...
Which I actually don’t mind.

The Mets are a rich team they just haven't had a good GM in like forever.
Phillips, Duquette, Omar – its torture. We just need to have a good GM

Agree, being a Met fan Why is it always FB season in August?
I just want meaningful games in september that’s all. I don’t even care if they cough it up on the final day of the year just get me thru a season with meaningful games.
Hitting Arias over Blanco and Castillo leadoff?
Sounds bout right
Blanco isn't very good, and with Reyes and Pagan out, leadoff options are limited

How in god's name is he worse than Frenchy????
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ
The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
He's just as bad with the bat
and actually worse defensively? How is he not worse than Frenchy? He actually has a lower WAR than Frenchy.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
In fact he's got a lower wOBA
despite having a BABIP about 80 points higher.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
Arias has gotten about 200 PA in the majors to suck
Francouer got over 1000 to do so.
Arias also plays a position where we don’t have supremely better options at the moment. Francoeur did.
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ
The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
? I'm not sure how the last part has anything to do with whether Arias is worse
an awful player is awful regardless of context. And Arias actually has well over 1000 minor league PA’s where he was awful as well. And if you can’t hit in AAA it’s unlikely you won’t be God awful at the ML level either.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
really if Arias is still in the organization at the end of the year,
and not sitting on the bench in buffalo, we’ll have actually gotten the worse end of the deal.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
Especially
since we are paying the difference between him and Francouer.
You're assuming we wouldn't just sign someone else who sucked
We have no better options at 2B right now. Castillo is a gimp who can’t hit the ball out of the IF, and Tejada has an OPS under .500.
Getting rid of Francoeur for a guy who is only making $500,000 is a certain win in my book.
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ
The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
like Josh said
we paid the difference in salary so the fact he’s only making 500,000 is irrelevant, since Frenchy will likely be nontendered.
Castillo actually is a better option, and it’s really not even close. Arias is as bad in the field and actually decidedly worse in the field. And like Josh said below it’s unlikely Turner or even Luis Hernandez would be worse options.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
I suppose I could understand Turner
but Hernandez is no better than Arias, and Castillo is atrocious offensively (78 OPS+), and I’m not at all convinced he’s a plus fielder, which Fangraphs says he is.
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ
The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
It doesn't matter if you don't think Castillo is a + fielder
because Arias is a negative fielder as well. And even if you use a measure as outdated as OPS/OPS+, Arias is still worse (70 OPS+). There’’s literally no argument Arias has over anyone.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
Manuel still playing this piece of crap
Can I be in the room when they fire this fucking asshole. I would really like to do it myself.
by aparkermarshall on Sep 2, 2010 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions
Castillo has a .283 slugging percentage. .283
Maybe it’s just me, but I’d rather see a 25 year old play in a meaningless month than a 34 year old who has no power and can’t hit the ball out of the infield more than once a year.
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only GRISSIONZ
The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
Castillo has a .333 OBP
Arias has a .290
maybe it’s just me but I’d rather see someone who can actually add something to the team than an auto out who has no business being on a major league roster.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon

So basically
The mets traded for a guy that was so bad that he was a cut for a guy that was so bad that the mets cut him?
It's based on the mistaken assumption that Alex Cora was really not that bad.
by The Frito Pundito on Sep 2, 2010 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions
Who would make that assumption?
Wait, a guy that would trade for Jeff Francouer…

but Arias is terrible at baseball. How in the world he is on the major league club is another reason we have the worst front office in the majors. The fact that he is starting proves that Manuel is the most incompetent manager in baseball right now.
by aparkermarshall on Sep 2, 2010 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions
I can't believe I'm defending Jerry, but
your options at 2B are:
1) A 20 year old who is completely overmatched
2) A 34 year old who is broken down
3) A 25 year old you know nothing about, but will likely suck
4) A 26 year old you know nothing about, but will likely suck
Not exactly a great list

This is also an issue I have with the mets
Why don’t they ever let someone play out of position. I am watching the Braves who put OFers at 2B, and can’t understand why the mets can’t do it.
if you mean Kelly Johnson
He actually came up as an SS, was moved to OF, and then moved to 2nd when they had a log jam of outfielders. He had about 550 games at SS in the minors before he was moved to OF.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
I am talking about their entire team
But I did think that Johnson was an OF to start.
Who else have they had play at 2nd?
Conrad was a 3b/2b player in the minors as well.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
He came up as a 2nd basemen
he only played 1 game in the of in his entire minor league career there

At any rate
I have seen Troy freaking Glaus play SS. The mets can try to move someone!!
well they're trying to move Murphy
I’m not really sure they have any realistic options on the current team.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
the thing is the 25 year old
is about as overmatched as the 20 year old.
mediocrity thy name is Wilpon- jdon
he's not slightly less
he’s actually literally decidedly less crappy. Arias is sub replacement level. Castillo would actually muster about 1 WAR over 600 PA’s. Arias would muster about -.8

I’m waiting for Andy Murray versus “Jamaica’s unpredictable Dustin Brown”, mainly to find out how unpredictable a mid-level tennis player can be
From The Guardian
Murray’s reward for the win is a second-round match against Dustin Brown, born in Germany, raised and disillusioned in Jamaica, and keen to play Davis Cup for Great Britain – however unlikely that prospect is.

Let's recap:
Sacrifices with no outs when the pitcher has just walked two guys one nine balls
Lets the .230 RH catcher bat against a righty when there is .298 batting lefty catchy on the bench
When the aforementioned RH catcher fails to drive in a run, then he brings in the aforementioned LH catcher, only to remove him when Atlanta sneakily brings in a LH pitcher
Replaces .298 batting catcher with a .147 batting righty who gets called out on strikes.
That has to be some sort of record for stupidity

CRAZY SCHEDULE
How the hell did the Mets approve a schedule where they have to play a day game in Chicago after a night game in Atlanta? They won’t get into Chi-town until 2AM & they play at 1PM!
By the way, that will be Jerry’s lame excuse for not pinch-hitting Thole for Blanco. He doesn’t want Josh to catch tonight with a day game tomorrow. But Jerry has NO excuse for pinch-hitting Hesseman for Thole!
Give up
Trying to figure out what Manuel is doing will only give you a headache
