This is about Beltran, probably not FanShot worthy, but funny to me
I was just looking on FanGraphs at the top center fielder's by WAR over the past 3 years. I was shocked when I saw that Beltran wasn't on the list, as seen in the link above. I then realized he's been injured the past two season, so I clicked "all players," and there he is! The second best player at his position in the past 3 years without even playing enough games to qualify 2 full seasons.
But he sucks and was a huge waste of money.

damn
and it took a ridiculous 8 WAR season from Hamilton (is he even really a full time CF?) for someone to be better than Beltran. But WAR, its not good for nothing!
I like Ike, I hate Jerry

he is still in his prime.. PRIME!
Surely nothing bad could happen to a guy as he gets older.
I hate Philadelphia so much.
What's the point of having a great WAR
if you can’t get on the field?

Thanks ... I didn't know that, but ....
that wasn’t really my point. My point is while, yes, he’s a great baseball talent, if we can’t get him healthy and out on the field, then that great WAR rating is of no use to the Mets.
"Never throw a slider to The Glider."

So what you meant to ask was:
Baltran was so good that he could out WAR (or if you want a simplified and more relatable version, out-produce) all but one CF even though he played in so many less games?

except hamilton isn't really a cf...he's a corner OF for the most part
he has 86 starts in left, and 28 in center…so basically beltran, even though he hasn’t played much in the last two years, has had the greatest impact of any true center fielder. Now that’s saying something
by Mike Clemente on Oct 1, 2010 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, I was just trying to simplify it for him since he apparently was having trouble understanding.

wins are wins
whether you concentrate them all in short bursts or spread them over whole seasons. The real question isn’t if Beltran has been a huge boon for this team, but how much more spectacular he could have been had we handeld his knees properly.
Hey, wait! I'm having one of those things. You know? A headache with pictures?

Yes, but not really the last two years at all
and his first year here he stunk. Actually, I think he had a knee problem back then too. But he had a horrible first year here.
"Never throw a slider to The Glider."

...and then he had an incredible second year that
basically wiped out that terrible first year. So…….

Clearly, your precious stats are lying,
because I know what I saw, and I did not see Carlos Beltran being so awesome.

but
he took a called third strike in the most clutchiest of moments to a pitcher who isnt even pitching out of the bullpen anymore! Which is like soooo important a spot because of the pressure.
I am a fan of both the mets and knicks... so just kill me now.
I like WAR....
But that damn game takes forever. Give me Go Fish any day.
WAR...what is it good for?
Absolutely nothing (except for analyzing baseball players like the stat nerds we are).

We played using 2 "objective cards" each to try to speed up the game.
In the end, playing with 6-8 people, it was inevitable to spend the night for just 1 game.
OT but how do people pronounce WAR?
like the word ‘war’ or do they rhyme it with ‘far’?
Like the military act.
or the card game.

I've always wondered how most people say 'UZR'
‘U-Z-R’, as in the individual letters, or ‘UZR’, as in ‘oozer’. I was explaining the concept to my half-brother on AIM, which is typing, so it was fine. Then, when I was explaining it face to face with him, I was like, “Shit, how do you properly say it?”

yeah definitely U-Z-R for me too.
I remember when Cerrone and TedBerg did that little piece on “FIP” last month, I was so surprised that they called it FIP and not F-I-P. That’s what I call it. But then WAR is WAR, not W-A-R.

That's nice, but you are all smart enough to know this does not mean he's been the most valuable centerfielder for the past 3 years
All that shows is that Carlos Beltran had an amazing 2008. He wasn’t worth his contract last year, or this year, and probably won’t be next year. But his 2008 was so good, that it still pushes him up amongst the top CF’s. I mean that’s good for Beltran, and is the reason why he’s prob the top CF in team history….but from a fan standpoint, I would rather a player been consistently good for the duration of his contract than ridiculously in 3 years, and not so amazing in the other 4.
"I only wanted a few things out of life -- a wife, children, to play baseball and to hunt deer." - Turk Wendell
Noticed a lot of verbal fellatio of Carlos Beltran on this site
But frankly, if the Mets could trade him for a guy like Colby Rasmus or Jacoby Ellsbury, I’d carry him to St. Louis or Boston. Time to get some new voices in this lockerroom. Those guys I mentioned are rising stars who you can buy low on since they haven’t had their best seasons/been injured. Get some health, speed, and young talent on this team. Carlos Beltran is the type of guy you need if you’re contending and need one big star in a contract year. Last I checked, the Mets aren’t expected to contend for a championship in ’11. Might as well get a guy who can be part of your future…and a guy who has two knees as opposed to essentially one.
Rasmus, yes. Ellsbury, I'd say no.
He’s not a CFer first of all and second he’s got one good tool-speed. He’s a solid contact hitter with very little power and for a guy who hits .300, he walks enough to barely get his OBP over .350. He’s similar to Jose Reyes, except with less power and he plays a less vital position defensively (LF). Meh.
If we could get Rasmus for Beltran, though, I’d certainly do it but it won’t happen. Rasmus probably has a better chance of being in STL next year than LaRussa.
And new voices in the lockerroom? Umm you don’t trade a guy with Beltran’s talent to “get a different voice” in the locker room. That’s just stupid, unless you’re truly getting legit talent in return.

WHAT HAPPENED TO...
building the team around small ball-type players? That’s how u win in Citi Field…I mean yes, every team needs some mashers, well I think Davis and Bay qualify, and even Wright to a lesser extent, but overall you gotta have you Reyes/Ellsbury-type guys in this cavernous ballpark…
the fact that a Yankee fan understands this team’s needs more than Met fans is kind of sad……
.300 hitting, 30 stolen base guy with gold glove defense
is meh? Right.
Except he doesn't play gold glove defense.
And he plays LF. And his OBP was only .355 in his best season.
