I'm intrigued by this game

I hope Gee can keep the K/BB ratio, but lose the hits against.

Hey, wait! I'm having one of those things. You know? A headache with pictures?

I've been saying that since he hasn't hit breaking stuff, and that his OPS

after his lucky first 15 games has been in the low 700s each month, that the Mets shouldn’t ink him in as plan A at 1b for 2011—but he’s been on a real tear in the last two weeks.

by Jack Str on Sep 7, 2010 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Sometimes it might just take a while for a guy to catch his stride...

Or could it be…..the positive influence of HoJo?

NOOOOOOOOO I started college today :(

Things suck man, and it sucks to know only one month left of baseball then I’m gonna miss all of you guys too. You made this mediocre year entertaining, I remember the laughs from “TRAID TEH COUER and CORE, David Wrongz and his love of the children, Voltron, and Rey-ass” as well as the times we lost hope when Loliver came to the mound and frenchy whiffed at a ball ten feet away from the plate. I liked how you guys introduced me to office space and the unwritten rules of AA. It was my first complete year on AA and it was awesome, thank you guys and thank you AA

Glad you've enjoyed

and college is awesome, enjoy yourself there. Also remember we’re around all offseason with ridiculous MS Paints and blind speculation about next year, so come on by anytime.

by KeithsMoustache on Sep 7, 2010 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

its not all awesome when

you have to commute and don’t get to dorm. your missing the whole fun side of the experience. its also lame when you ex-gf was one of your closest friends and now its awkward because she dumped u. She called me “biffle” today and I had the same face I put when Ollie Perez comes to the mound, “are you serious?” :| . its hard to meet people when u don’t dorm. But at least I got a full scholarship and I don’t have to pay fifty grand a year. sighh

by HELLYEAHGARYOAK on Sep 7, 2010 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions

So you got that going for you

trust me, not paying for you Bachelor’s is better than living in some filthy dorm room.

by aparkermarshall on Sep 7, 2010 7:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Join a club or two

just try any random one you’ve ever been remotely curious about. You’ll meet a lot of people that way, plus most of the people I knew I met through classes anyway. The commuting thing makes it a bit tricky, but do you drive or take public transit? If you drive, it also means you have a car, which a lot of college freshmen don’t (at least i know thats true around here, not sure about where you are). And having a full ride is great, i’ll be paying out my ass if i ever finish grad school.

by KeithsMoustache on Sep 7, 2010 7:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Ah, it'll turn around for you...Here are some tips.

1. Always sit next to a very pretty girl and take classes rumored to have group projects. Usually people will just pick the person they sit next to.
2. Commuting, while less than optimal, does not mean no social interaction. Do stuff on campus before heading home for the night. Or make friends with folks in the dorms for crashing opps.
4. High school girlfriends are like pets: they should be left at home when you start college. I don’t know what a biffle is but I imagine it’s a best friend for life or something like that. Awkwardness aside, I would wager that she did you a favor.
5. Find counterculture that suits your interests and doesn’t detract from grades. Embrace it. [Note: NOT emo.]
6. Take courses in things that you never would have thought of. A couple of classes in say, art history or media, will pay dividends for the rest of your adult life.
7. Start Google.

by MookieTheCat on Sep 7, 2010 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions

excellent advice across the board there

my other advice to Mookie would be to remember the number 3

Hey, wait! I'm having one of those things. You know? A headache with pictures?

by KeithsMoustache on Sep 7, 2010 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, on the pretty girl thing...

Do NOT hit on her. Just be friendly and available to share notes/do projects etc. They run in packs, and in an urban environment (subway being my clue) this can pay huge dividends inside school and out. With social networking nowadays you can even avoid the awkward “what’s your number” thing and friend each other.

NYU? Dude, you have it so made. NYU for free? For crying out loud, you should be the one giving me advice. Have you ever seen Woody Allen’s Everything You Have Ever Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask? If not, see it immediately. Hint: pay special attention to the scene where that features the inner workings of the brain on a date.

"NOOOOOOOOO I started college today :("

Without any insult meant, this is perhaps the dumbest thing I have ever read on a blog. :)

College is your time to be on AA and many, many other websites that real jobs tend to get in the way of, to live a life of excess and be basically ok the next day, and to be surrounded by 18 – 22 yo girls “finding themselves.” Where else does a full workweek consist of 16 hours, many of which are optional, and where you get to choose your job each semester? I tell teenagers to immediately mistrust anyone who says that high school is the best years of your life, but college really is.

That said, thanks. I only figured out who Gary Oak is last night so now I feel let in on the secret of your nick.

by KeithsMoustache on Sep 7, 2010 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I exaggerated, but still...

Julius Jones is sticking in Seattle, but he’s going to have to get used to being a reserve.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll announced Justin Forsett will start at running back against the 49ers on Sunday. Leon Washington, who also figures to help on returns, is probably next in line. Jones could get a handful of carries on running downs.

Without a true primary back, Carroll figures to split carries among his backs based on the matchup. That’s sure to drive fantasy owners crazy, but it’s the best way to utilize the roster that he has.

by Joshuah on Sep 7, 2010 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Classy Washington announcers

Maybe I’m being sensitive, but it seems a bit much to be outwardly laughing at a rookie pitcher on his debut, as he gives up his first hit/homerun. Taunting him and claiming he should ask for that ball too was a little excessive, imo. I suppose they’re doing Dibble proud.

2013 ALL-STAR GAME(TM) LOGO CONTEST

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
