crap another afternoon game

this is ridiculous. Good luck to Dickey.

Hey, wait! I'm having one of those things. You know? A headache with pictures?

by KeithsMoustache on Sep 8, 2010 12:24 PM EDT reply actions

Livan's numbers somehow not that bad, still

I think it’s because umps across the league have called the outside corner a lot more this year. Just a theory, though.

id trade him

not going to get much but its time. I’d prefer an outfield that consisted of Bay,Pagan, Carter(i guess)

Trade Beltran for a second baseman

I hate Philadelphia so much.

by the caveman on Sep 8, 2010 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions

We'd all trade Beltran

But no club would take him unless we ate most of the contract and sent additional players.

so who wants Beltran next year?

Good luck with that trade

Do you really think that St. Louis would go for it?

by Russ on Sep 8, 2010 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Not without a lot of salary picked up by the Mets

How about a 3-way trade? Rasmus to the Mets, Beltran to the Sox or Yankees and N-House and another prospect to the Cards?

by David G on Sep 8, 2010 1:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Its not just the salary

Beltran is a shadow of his former self.

by Russ on Sep 8, 2010 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Probably no way to trade him then.

Anyway, it’s a buy high, sell low problem. It isn’t like we’re drowning in OFers.

I agree with whoever suggested Pagan become the CF.

by Kepler on Sep 8, 2010 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Whoops, here's a question

what if they would take Pagan and a mid-level prospect for Rasmus? You’d have to do that right? Rasmus is younger, with more power and plate discipline.

by David G on Sep 8, 2010 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions

We really don't need more outfielders

We should concentrate on 2B and the bullpen.

by Russ on Sep 8, 2010 2:11 PM EDT up reply actions

I believe

first RBI was a Dickey single with men on base
and Pagan sac fly same inning.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong. I came in middle of that inning.

the call was that luis hernandaz was safe after hernandaz missed the tag on luis hernandaz while on his way to first base

luis hernandaz was called safe but he didnt even touch the base also along with the bad call. the inning ended after dickey tried to move to third.

It blows to allow so few baserunners and then get burned by the longball. No idea how a knuckeballer would increase GB%.

Honest question for ia very slow Wednesday.

Assuming Jerry is fired, does anyone think having a new manager but this basic cast of characters will result in a significantly better record?

by Kepler on Sep 8, 2010 1:53 PM EDT reply actions

Yes.

Hire Henry Blanco a player-manager and give him free reign to switchblade anyone as he sees fit.

I think's that's a conservative estimate

If in 2011 they go with a starting lineup of Reyes, Wright, Beltran (rf), Pagan (cf), Bay, Thole, Davis, and either Turner, Havens or a free agent at 2b, they could be in the hunt with a starting staff of Santana, Pelf, Niese, Dickey, and a FA or Gee. Sure, why not? It would really help to void the K-Rod contract and free up some money for pitching depth, but doubt that happens.

by sj10689 on Sep 8, 2010 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions

83.9% this year

16.1% are fastballs

Some pitches are mis-read. A fast knuckleball, for instance, that never quite broke, which turns into a fastball

Do not
Discuss politics or religion, period. There are lots of places on the internets to discuss these things so there should be no need for it here. You may think that everyone here agrees with you about something but I guarantee you that they do not.

Yeah but None of us are Trolls. We've been around since the start of this Disaster

This guy comes out of nowhere NOW with a name closely resembling MookietheCat and acts this way. Sorry but he’s a troll.

Not a troll

Sorry our names have the the first four letters

by Mookes7 on Sep 8, 2010 4:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Eh....

I don’t think the Jerry comment that started this whole thing was trolly. As for the name thing, it is different enough that can live with it. When you model your name after an icon you have to expect that someone else will show up.

I would advise Mookes7 that perhaps the comments should be a little less aggressive but that’s your call. But thanks to all who defend my honor.

My apologies

How am I going to appeal this thing?

You prob will just get a warning for now...

But for future reference, it’s usually a good call to visit a stats website before getting into a stats argument, and name-calling is very much discouraged. Also, see the discourse that goes on here. See how people speak to one another. I regularly get into disagreements with folks on here that go on for post after post, hour after hour. If you lose a point, concede it. If you win, don’t gloat or hold it over others. If it is subject to reasonable minds disagreeing say something like “we’ll just have to agree to disagree.” Three words posts, especially those that call someone a name, and especially those that call someone a name that a mouth-breather who calls WFAN to hear his own voice would say, are discouraged. Basically, if you feel Beltran is heartless, that’s your position. Tell us why you think he is. Give examples. Talk about what you’ve observed that supports this. No one will ever flag you for a post like that, even if they disagree with you. If they do, they are in the wrong and the admins should ignore the flag.

Reading the chain over

I think I would be completely absolved. I pointed out a fact that made a member of the Mets look terrible. Which it should. It’s not political, it’s just disgraceful and full of bad taste. I can sleep.

"Mess" was capitalized

This could get ugly

It was a non-mandatory event.

It's a gray area

Not a political topic in and of itself, but certainly encourages political discussions down the line

Dissenting to the non-visit is one thing

but using the adjective “heartless” is going a bit too far

Ok

You wouldn’t have made the visit either

by Mookes7 on Sep 8, 2010 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions

see, that's trolling and not appropiate

You’re basing something with no facts.

maybe he was playing with his giant poodles or something

We should be discussing the virtues of a BIG DICKEY.......Win.

But instead we’re being invaded by the HumpBack-Troll of Notre Dame.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
