crap another afternoon game
this is ridiculous. Good luck to Dickey.
Hey, wait! I'm having one of those things. You know? A headache with pictures?

Livan's numbers somehow not that bad, still
I think it’s because umps across the league have called the outside corner a lot more this year. Just a theory, though.
and by outside corner I mean
6 inches off the plate.
so Livan is going to throw a no-hitter?
what is Livan on, can I have it?
"Fantasy, reality, science Fiction. Which is which? Who can tell?"
good I jinxed Livan!
"Fantasy, reality, science Fiction. Which is which? Who can tell?"
Smallest game thread of the year, possibly?
Over under has to be about 40 posts at this pace.
poor showing on the threads
"I used to be legit. I was too legit. I was too legit to quit. but now I'm not legit. I'm unlegit. And for that reason, I must quit."
id trade him
not going to get much but its time. I’d prefer an outfield that consisted of Bay,Pagan, Carter(i guess)
Trade Beltran for a second baseman
I hate Philadelphia so much.
We'd all trade Beltran
But no club would take him unless we ate most of the contract and sent additional players.
so who wants Beltran next year?
"I used to be legit. I was too legit. I was too legit to quit. but now I'm not legit. I'm unlegit. And for that reason, I must quit."
Not without a lot of salary picked up by the Mets
How about a 3-way trade? Rasmus to the Mets, Beltran to the Sox or Yankees and N-House and another prospect to the Cards?
Probably no way to trade him then.
Anyway, it’s a buy high, sell low problem. It isn’t like we’re drowning in OFers.
I agree with whoever suggested Pagan become the CF.
Whoops, here's a question
what if they would take Pagan and a mid-level prospect for Rasmus? You’d have to do that right? Rasmus is younger, with more power and plate discipline.
and
lets move him the RF, pagan’s awesome at center.
I hate this team so much, that I love them to death.
I believe
first RBI was a Dickey single with men on base
and Pagan sac fly same inning.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong. I came in middle of that inning.
by MetsFan4Decades on Sep 8, 2010 1:32 PM EDT up reply actions
i checked
first rbi was a hernandaz double
second rbi was a beltran sac fly
I hate this team so much, that I love them to death.
the call was that luis hernandaz was safe after hernandaz missed the tag on luis hernandaz while on his way to first base
luis hernandaz was called safe but he didnt even touch the base also along with the bad call. the inning ended after dickey tried to move to third.
I hate this team so much, that I love them to death.
This is becoming a problem
It blows to allow so few baserunners and then get burned by the longball. No idea how a knuckeballer would increase GB%.

Honest question for ia very slow Wednesday.
Assuming Jerry is fired, does anyone think having a new manager but this basic cast of characters will result in a significantly better record?
Yes.
Hire Henry Blanco a player-manager and give him free reign to switchblade anyone as he sees fit.

I think's that's a conservative estimate
If in 2011 they go with a starting lineup of Reyes, Wright, Beltran (rf), Pagan (cf), Bay, Thole, Davis, and either Turner, Havens or a free agent at 2b, they could be in the hunt with a starting staff of Santana, Pelf, Niese, Dickey, and a FA or Gee. Sure, why not? It would really help to void the K-Rod contract and free up some money for pitching depth, but doubt that happens.
Whoah
There’s a day game today? Would’ve never known.
Ryan Miller was the true MVP.
I really hate Jerry.
Some good news
Today is the last weekday of the season with a day game – the rest start at 7:10 pm on weekdays.
(Your ad here)
He's pulling off a Brian Bannister-style houdini stunt
As long as Dickey induces ground balls primarily, he should be good to go (assuming he doesn’t get hurt by line drives by opposing batters)
(Your ad here)
9 K's, though
I haven’t watched all the at-bats, but that strikeout rate is high. Small sample size is not enough to make any solid conclusions, though
(Your ad here)
come on...rookies have set the world on fire and
did a Duda. He’ll get better.
"Fantasy, reality, science Fiction. Which is which? Who can tell?"
i had forgotten about the GMJ disaster
how can some one so awful still play ball?
I hate Philadelphia so much.
He's in AAA-Oklahoma City RedHawks in the Rangers' farm system
Injuries decimated his chances of returning to the bigs
(Your ad here)
Definitely.
I like Wise’s for greatest.

That's practically the definition of clutch
The leverage of a perfect game has never been higher than at that moment
(Your ad here)
Luis Hernandez is surprisingly effective so far
Only 3 K’s in 28 ABs, .323 AVG ans an OBP around .340-.350 or so
I don’t think it will last for too long, however

Oliver Perez warming up, with the Mets currently in the lead

(Your ad here)
Not that it matters at this point
But unless we’re trying to up our draft pick next season, this is a pretty senseless move.
(Your ad here)
Well, 2011 is supposed to be a very deep draft
But I’d rather that we save the win for Dickey. He deserves to get to double digits in the W column.
The amazing thing
This is the only year in his career Dickey used only 2 pitches in his arsenal
(Your ad here)
And he uses that Knuckleball something like 94% of the time
Although I believe that he uses it in 3 speeds
83.9% this year
16.1% are fastballs
His success lies primarily with the knuckleball – his improvement of the knuckleball this spring training was well documented
(Your ad here)
It could be closer to 94%, though
Some pitches are mis-read. A fast knuckleball, for instance, that never quite broke, which turns into a fastball
(Your ad here)
so..Jerry is trying to show what a bad manager he is, right?
"Fantasy, reality, science Fiction. Which is which? Who can tell?"
With Jerry, no effort is required to show his futility
Interestingly, if he did what he thought was trying to be a good manager, he’ll probably do even worse
(Your ad here)
haha! good point
"Fantasy, reality, science Fiction. Which is which? Who can tell?"
Definitely an error
Glove was clearly on the ball,, but he mishandled it. It wasn’t anywhere near a laser shot, so definitely an E.
(Your ad here)
I need a Fangraphs article on Dessens' season
it has to be pure luck, right? Doesn’t strike anyone out, seems to give up tons of hard hits that get caught. I don’t get it, I’m worried he’ll be back in 2011
There is defnitely an anomaly in the works
This will surely get you started: 2.27 ERA, 5.54 FIP. His FIP is 2.44 times his ERA!
(Your ad here)
Sorry, I meant xFIP (which makes park adjustments)
Also, that 1.08 K/BB rate and ~3.5 K/9 are serious red flags
(Your ad here)
Agreed, Dickey would get a win...
and Mr. Fudd (who actually did quite well), and company would get holds.
And he who must not be named (or doesn't exist)...
would have had the game winning RBI if the 3-2 score holds up.
Win definately to Dickey...
he was pitcher of record, and the ghost pinch hit for him.
It got me too

There's still conversations around the water cooler about remaining steady, since everything will supposedly work out

Unfortunately, patience, in his case, is not exactly a virtue.
(Your ad here)
Yeah see below.
Thanks for the defense. I don’t think he’s trying to impersonate me. If he was he would make huge, long posts that contradict the points made there, and would write songs.
As for the troll thing, as I say below he could be a little less aggressive, a little more nuanced and analytical, and probably has some ground to make up around here community-wise, but that’s his issue, not mine.

Hmm...Dickey is 35 too....
Maybe Omar should concentrate on signing 35 year-old pitchers, they work out better than most of his moves. Then of course there’s Elmer, who WISHES he was 35.
Dickey now 10-6...
not bad for starting the year in the minors due to management stupidity.
More good news
Knuckleballers last longer, just like Tim Wakefield – his 2,838 IP is a Red Sox franchise record.
More Dickey = more days like these
(Your ad here)
He was awesome
I never watched him play, but he surely made a major impact in his 24 years of service

Jerry would be like "use it or lose it"
But the thing is, if you use Ollie, you lose games. I guess it’s a no-win situation in his book
(Your ad here)
Plus Dickey can hang around as a pinch hitter...
His average is .002 less than Beltran at the moment.
We're playing the Phillies next ?
That should go well

Ojeda thinks that the Closer role does not suit Tak because he's a contact pitcher and you don't want to have a contact pitcher as your closer.
He prefers a strikeout guy.
Parnell he says? I don’t know…..
I think what Tak and Dickey have proven is that you don’t need a 100+ mph fastball to be successful.
There are always exceptions
Tak sucked as a starter, but he’s effective as a closer. Keep him as a closer, or let him sign elsewhere.
Well Castillo is a disgrace

I flagged because you called Beltran heartless
Discussing politics is not allowed, by the way. Beltran visiting or not visiting Walter Reed comes under politics.
"We're investigating the investigative procedure of the investigation of Tony Bernazard"---Omar Minaya (he really didn't say it but he would"
No, it doesn't
It’s discussing an event that is controversial and political, as mentioned in the commenting guide.
Do not
Discuss politics or religion, period. There are lots of places on the internets to discuss these things so there should be no need for it here. You may think that everyone here agrees with you about something but I guarantee you that they do not.
"We're investigating the investigative procedure of the investigation of Tony Bernazard"---Omar Minaya (he really didn't say it but he would"
Politics
How does visiting wounded veterans with the team you are playing for, as a team event, constitute political discusssion?
Calling him out is political
If it’s a controversial event that doesn’t have to do with sports, it’s generally frowned upon here.
"We're investigating the investigative procedure of the investigation of Tony Bernazard"---Omar Minaya (he really didn't say it but he would"
It was a team event
and management, according to Lennon, is extremely upset (which i doubt). That’s not politics, its typical Mess.
What exactly did it have to do with baseball?
"We're investigating the investigative procedure of the investigation of Tony Bernazard"---Omar Minaya (he really didn't say it but he would"
A Baseball team event (the New York Mets)
Whole team goes, beltran, castillo, perez sit it out. Management unhappy. I am sorry if that’s too political for you. Doesn’t sound like politics to me.
It was non-mandatory
It had nothing to do with baseball, and as sj said, it’s a gray area which could provoke political discussion which is why it’s frowned upon.
"We're investigating the investigative procedure of the investigation of Tony Bernazard"---Omar Minaya (he really didn't say it but he would"

The 2010 Mets- Hey, we may suck, but what did you expect?
Yeah but None of us are Trolls. We've been around since the start of this Disaster
This guy comes out of nowhere NOW with a name closely resembling MookietheCat and acts this way. Sorry but he’s a troll.
Eh....
I don’t think the Jerry comment that started this whole thing was trolly. As for the name thing, it is different enough that can live with it. When you model your name after an icon you have to expect that someone else will show up.
I would advise Mookes7 that perhaps the comments should be a little less aggressive but that’s your call. But thanks to all who defend my honor.
I think he was given the heave-ho so your post will probably be unnoticed...
Still a good post,though. heh.
You prob will just get a warning for now...
But for future reference, it’s usually a good call to visit a stats website before getting into a stats argument, and name-calling is very much discouraged. Also, see the discourse that goes on here. See how people speak to one another. I regularly get into disagreements with folks on here that go on for post after post, hour after hour. If you lose a point, concede it. If you win, don’t gloat or hold it over others. If it is subject to reasonable minds disagreeing say something like “we’ll just have to agree to disagree.” Three words posts, especially those that call someone a name, and especially those that call someone a name that a mouth-breather who calls WFAN to hear his own voice would say, are discouraged. Basically, if you feel Beltran is heartless, that’s your position. Tell us why you think he is. Give examples. Talk about what you’ve observed that supports this. No one will ever flag you for a post like that, even if they disagree with you. If they do, they are in the wrong and the admins should ignore the flag.

Reading the chain over
I think I would be completely absolved. I pointed out a fact that made a member of the Mets look terrible. Which it should. It’s not political, it’s just disgraceful and full of bad taste. I can sleep.
It's a gray area
Not a political topic in and of itself, but certainly encourages political discussions down the line
